How it Works

Like the original, the DaVinci IQ2 has quite a bit going on underneath its aluminum body. To start, you’ll flip open the underside of the unit to reveal the herb chamber which will accommodate around 0.5 grams of dry herb. The best grind and pack for the DaVinci IQ2 would definitely be a little fine and packed down slightly after filling it up fully.

Then, the main button can be held down to power the device up and the two other buttons for changing the temperature or Smart Path selection up or down. It’ll automatically begin to warm up from there and vibrate to let you know when it’s ready to use.

If you’re keen on using the flavor chamber, then fill that up with your desired material before starting the session.

After the device signaled that it’s done heating, then just simply inhale gently and enjoy! You should get around 5-10 minutes worth of hits from a fully packed bowl. To load less herb in it, you can adjust the ‘pearl’ on the chamber door to better accommodate smaller loads. Also, the glass spacers can be used to further reduce the bowl for microdosing!

If you’re trying to track and monitor your dosage amounts, then hitting the control button twice will let you set the potency of THC and CBD of your flower and allow you to set how much you want to take in. This is excellent for microdosers and medical users who really want to know how much cannabinoids they’re taking in!

You can monitor all these things within the app and make any changes you need, which is very convenient, however, what’s best is you can use every one of these features without the app! Impressive indeed.

Temperature Flexibility

Surprisingly versatile considering the size, the DaVinci IQ2 features full temperature control just like the original device. Going up to 222°C/431°F, you have plenty of room to play with in terms of versatility. With units like the 620 vaporizer including temperature control in a small device, this seems to be becoming a trend. Of course, the Smart Paths are what we really love about the temperature selection.

For the unfamiliar, Smart Paths are temperature settings that will automatically climb throughout the given temperature range over the duration of the session. So, you can start at say 160°C and end at 220°C without interacting with the device, if you set it so.

You can completely curate and tailor these Smart Paths to follow whichever temperature curve you desire with the use of the DaVinci smartphone app. This is really one of the strongest suits of the device as you can first get nice and tasty hits and end up with heavy, complete extraction at the end. Even high-end herb vaporizers like the Storz & Bickel Mighty doesn’t offer this type of functionality.

Vapor Quality

The DaVinci IQ2 has some of the greatest conduction vapor quality on the market, only outdone by the likes of the impressive Zeus Arc GTS Hub.

It puts out quite dense clouds of vapor with nice flavor and impressive smoothness, especially considering the size of the device. The improved airflow on the IQ2 vs IQ is definitely noticeable and provides a smoother draw.

The airflow adjustment dial on the bottom is definitely functional and changed the vapor:air ratio significantly, depending on what it’s set to. There is no ‘best’ setting, just what feels right for you!

With that all in mind, it has a strong, more robust flavor compared to convection or hybrid vapes like the V5 Nano. This comes down to preference and some people prefer hybrid or convection vapes over conduction, especially as the flavor is less like roasted-popcorn at the end of a session.

For its size, it’s about as good as you can do and the flavor chamber and long air path plays a significant role in that. If you’re looking for a good performing portable dry herb vape, then it’s hard to go wrong.

The performance with concentrates is good, however not quite as good as a dedicated wax pen vaporizer like the Utillian 5, which blows it out of the water comparatively.

Manufacturing Quality

The DaVinci team really knows how to design a product and the IQ2 is also very gorgeous, with the Amethyst IQ2 being to most attractive to our eyes. Build quality is even better than the original, and Davinci Miqro, problems with the battery door, pearl breaking, and other small things have been improved on.

DaVinci themselves offers a nice 10-year warranty and has awesome customer service, something we really appreciate to see. You can see there’s a lot of care taken in the presentation and the image, paying proper homage to the mastermind DaVinci himself.

The built-in stir-tool, adjustable chamber size, adjustable airflow, beautiful box (seriously some awesome stuff right there), tech packed inside, dosage control, and flavor chamber all stuffed inside a tiny package is downright impressive. It makes the Arizer Solo 2 look massive in comparison.

In the box, you get a fairly decent kit consisting of the device itself, a 18650 3500mAh DaVinci IQ2 battery, stir tool, user manual, 10mm WPA/mouthpiece, flat mouthpiece, dosage pod, cleaning tools, concentrate chamber, charger, and box. This is all you’ll really need and well worth the cost.

The removable 18650 battery has 3500mAh of power inside, which translates to around 8-10 sessions off a single charge. This is all very impressive and we love a removable battery being an option like on the Arizer Air 2 – it offers a lot of versatility and ensures you’ll never be caught out without power if you have spares on hand.

It charges via MicroUSB which is common, but we were really hoping to see USB-C be added. Impressively, it’ll fully charge a cell in around 2 hours, and MicroUSB is common everywhere so if you do run out, surely your friend will have a cable to keep you covered.

DaVinci IQ2 Vaporizer with armor casePortability

The DaVinci IQ2 is one of the best small dry herb vapes around. While it’s a whopping 9% bigger than its predecessor, this difference is hardly felt and overall it’s a great pocket-able dry herb vape. Only beaten out by ultra-small dry herb vapes like the Pax 3 or Litl 1, it’s perfectly portable and willing to go anywhere you can.

Rather, it’s our favorite compromise of performance for size, as any smaller than units like this and you begin greatly compromising vapor quality for the most part. The new dosage pods are a convenient way to have a few sessions packed and ready to go when out and about too. Still, it’s one of the best portable dry herb vapes and if you want something small yet punchy, then this is one of the few to consider.

While the DaVinci IQ2 has a lot of versatility in its use, it’s very easy to just pick up and get going within minutes. Easy for beginners with options for experts! Having a session with friends or strangers requires very little instruction and they can get a hit from it with no problem.

Cleaning the DaVinci IQ2 is a little better than the original, as they fixed the design flaw which made a ton of build-up and gunk accumulates in a hard to reach spots under the flavor chamber and above the bowl. Gone is that problem mostly!

For the most part, just a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol will easily clean out any grime and residue in the chamber and air path. Removing the mouthpieces and gaskets before submerging them in iso for 10 minutes will get those squeaky clean as well! While it’s not nearly as simple as cleaning something like the Arizer ArGo, it’s not too bad and definitely a step up over the original.

DaVinci IQ2 Vaporizer in handDiscreetness

The DaVinci IQ2 doesn’t really look like anything in particular and can passively appear like a power bank. In use, most people will dismiss it as your regular e-cig or a slightly different vape. However, the IQ2 does put out quite a bit of smell as other conduction vapes do. Keep this in mind if you want to be discreet!

Still, it’s one of the best discreet and stealthy dry herb vapes around and the small size is part of why. The Flowermate Slick is a great consideration if you like the portability but are on a slightly tighter budget.

DaVinci IQ2 Vaporizer full kitOverall Experience

The innovation, style, and quality behind the unit is really a testament and while it’s nothing ground-breaking compared to the old device, it’s certainly a step up.

We like the new airflow adjustment, pearl change, flavor chamber change, easier cleaning, Dosage Control, battery door fix, new finish, improved heater isolation, and performance of the new IQ2 vs IQ. Is it worth upgrading?

If you’re looking into water filtration, the DaVinci IQ2 also sports compatiblity with the recently updated Utillian Glass Bubbler so it might be worth checking out.

If you already have a DaVinci IQ then it’s hard to say. It depends on how much you value the above traits. If you’re looking for your first dry herb vape which is also a portable powerhouse, then we’d only best recommend the Zeus Arc GTS Hub or Davinci IQ2 as the best picks in this size bracket.
