Dr. Dabber Aurora Wax Pen Review – Low Temp, Big Flavour

Updated: October 6, 2023

The Utillian 2 is a pen-style vaporizer that offers improved designs and technology when compared to Dr. Dabbers original vape, the Ghost. One of the big upgrades was switching from threaded connections to magnets, which makes setting the unit up or taking it apart extremely easy.

The atomizers received an overhaul as well, and the Aurora now includes three atomizers that offer different designs and functionality. From top to bottom this is a great device and one you should consider if you need something specifically for cannabis extracts.

Review: Dr. Dabber Aurora

Dr Dabber Aurora Vaporizer Review

Temperature Flexibility

The Aurora is a very straightforward vaporizer to use similar to the Linx Blaze. There is a single button on the unit. Five clicks will turn the Aurora on or off, while pressing and holding the button while it is on will engage the heating element.

Three atomizers are included with the base, and they all have slightly different uses. All three options have a quartz dish, but the similarities end there. The first has a dual quartz rod and is better for thin oils. The second has a dual ceramic rod and works well with thick oils. The last option is a ceramic halo (normally called a donut), and it works best with cannabis extracts.

Vapor Quality

Similar to the Dr Dabber Stella, the Aurora delivers some of the most flavorful vapor you will find from any unit thanks to Dr. Dabber’s attitude towards temperature that was mentioned above. You can read how temperatures effects vapor quality on our blog here. While many pen vapes have excessively high voltage settings like the original ZEUS Thunder, that create temperatures that destroy the flavour compounds, the Aurora’s temperature settings were specially calibrated to preserve flavour while continuing to deliver the desired results.

The one thing that you will notice is that all of this makes getting thick clouds more difficult. The vapor isn’t any less effective, and you certainly won’t waste any of your material; you just won’t get the satisfying visuals upon exhale. You can combat this to some extent by taking longer than usual draws. Users that prefer strong smooth vapors usually prefer Utillian 5 as it can give experience closest to the traditional rigs.

Dr Dabber Aurora Wax Pen Manufacturing Quality

Manufacturing Quality

This is definitely a well-built device. The atomizers all have good designs and work very well, and the exterior of the unit doesn’t have any flaws or defects. All of the materials used seem to be of high quality, so you shouldn’t have to worry about the unit breaking easily.

Changing the normal 510 threading to magnetic connections was something we were both excited and concerned about. This is something that would be easy to get wrong, especially by using magnets that aren’t strong enough to stay together during normal use.

As it stands, we have had no trouble with the magnets. There’s no way to tell if they will continue to work well over a span of months and years, but so far there is no reason to think that they won’t. However, users who have concerns about the magnetic connections usually prefer devices 510 threading like the Linx Ember.

Dr Dabber Aurora Battery Life And Charger

Battery Life

The Aurora’s battery life is fantastic. While the different voltage settings will affect how long your battery will last between charges, Dr. Dabber says you can expect up to 300 draws from a single charge. If you are a light to medium user, this could easily last a week! Even heavy users who find that they drain the battery more frequently will be happy to know that a full charge will only take about 2 hours. Users that prefer not to wait for long usually prefer units like the Source Orb 4 Premium Kit, that have removable batteries.

Dr Dabber Aurora Wax Pen Portability

Portability

Unlike the Focus V Tourist, which is a 2 – in – 1 functionality vaporizer, all pen-style vaporizers are pretty portable, and this one is no exception. It has a great battery life, as well as a small, durable design that makes transporting it easy. We have found that using the Zeus Thunder Case is a great way to transport your new Aurora. While cheaper units may leak and cause messes, this doesn’t seem to be a problem with the Aurora.

Dr Dabber Aurora Ease Of Use

Ease of Use

The Aurora really excels when it comes to ease of use. Most of its functionality is simply on par with industry standards: the one-button design requires five clicks to cycle the power and a single click to engage the heating element when the unit is on.

Unlike the Puffco Peak that is a bit difficult to clean due to its build, the magnetic connections are where this unit separates itself, as they significantly cut down on the time it takes to set up the unit for use or to swap out atomizers. While there isn’t anything hard about screwing these things on and off, the magnets just make it way more convenient.

Discreetness

The low temperature settings of the Aurora mean that you end up with less visible vapor when you exhale. While some people want to have more visuals, the lack of clouds can be a real strength if you want to keep your activities unnoticed.

This device also has a matte finish and a generic shape when viewed from a distance, so this is a great option if discretion is important to you.

Users that are less concerned with the discreetness tend to prefer wax pens like the Source Orb 4 Signature Kit that can give powerful hits or flavorful draws depending on the temperature settings.

Overall Experience

If you are in the market for a concentrates-only vaporizer, then this is a fantastic option. The Aurora is clearly in the top-tier of pen-style vapes, and there are some unique features that make this one in particular a great decision.

The magnetic connections are definitely a plus, and the inclusion of three atomizers that can be used for different purposes is also nice. Vapor quality is very good, with a premium placed on flavour.

The only real downside is that you’ll have a more difficult time getting thick clouds when you exhale, but this is a rather minor concern when you consider why Dr. Dabber designed the Aurora this way.

If you are a fan of Dr. Dabber and want to buy Utillian 2 wax pen in Canada, then be sure to grab one from the store. Also, be sure to check out some of Dr. Dabbers others products like their Boost E-Rig which eliminates the need for a torch for rig-style vaping.

Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system engineered by Canadian vape manufacturer ZEUSArsenal. The Iceborn is designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The vapour produced is ultra smooth and crisp and because of ice cooling, instead of water filtration, there is no loss of efficiency. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of this vaporizer and is a highly recommended vaporizer accessory.
