Eleaf iKonn Total Review – Total Recall
The Eleaf iKonn Total is a side-by-side style mod, meaning the tank is recessed in the base beside the battery. This gives it a similar look to many all-in-one mods, but unlike AIOs, the tank on this can be removed and even changed. Lets take a closer look. Also be sure to check our vape buyers guides for important information to consider before making your first purchase.
Review: iKonn Total
Manufacturing Quality
The manufacturing quality of this is very good. It doesnt offer any power flexibility, but overall I think Eleaf did a great job designing a mod to fulfill a specific purpose. In this case, that purpose is a stylish and ultra-portable mod that still works well.
Like I mentioned in the intro, this is a side-by-side style mod. I used to think that this style was considered AIO, but it obviously isnt because the tank can be removed. Side by side simply means that the tank doesnt sit up on top of the mod, its actually down beside the battery. Some side-by-side mods have tanks that are still exposed, but in this case there is a cover that slides over to give the unit a one-piece look.
The tank that is included with this kit is the Ello Mini XL. It has a 22mm diameter and a 5.5ml capacity. Its designed perfectly for the Total mod, because just enough of it sticks out above the base to utilize its top-filling design.
You can use other tanks with this, but they cant be bigger than 22mm and they have to be tall enough to reach the top. I noticed that there is a 2ml version for the EU, and that one comes with an adapter for shorter tanks. Im sure you could get one of these if you had a smaller tank you wanted to use.
When you have the tank cover off, youll notice a small metal button near the bottom of the device. This is the fire button, which is the only one on the entire mod. When the cover is on, the entire thing can be squeezed like a side trigger and it will click the button.
Flavour Quality
The flavour quality is good. You get two coils with this kit, the HW1 and the HW2. The HW1 has a single cylinder and a resistance of 0.2ohm. The HW2 has two cylinders and a resistance of 0.3ohm.
The HW2 produces slightly bigger clouds, while the HW1 has better flavour in my opinion. In either case, the results are good but not mindblowing.
If youre just looking for good, all-around vapor that will be enjoyable throughout the day, these will work great for your purposes. Just dont expect to win any cloud competitions. People who use 510 cartridges tend to prefer the Linx Hermes 3.
Power Flexibility
This really doesnt have any power flexibility at all. The voltage output varies with the battery charge. It has a max wattage of 50W, but you cant actually select a specific level. Choosing the resistance of your coil is the only real control that you have.
Obviously it would be nice to have a little more flexibility, but that is ultimately a trade-off you make when getting a tiny mod, especially one with a recessed tank.
This is extremely easy to use. Like I mentioned before, there is only one button on the entire unit, which is essentially a side trigger due to the design. Clicking it five times will turn the unit on. Clicking and holding it will engage the coils for you to take a draw. Thats all there is to using this.
When it comes time to fill the tank, you just slide the top to the side to expose the filling port. This can easily be done without removing anything at all, even the side cover. The battery is accessed by twisting off the cap.
Portability
This is actually one of the best vapes Ive ever used in terms of portability. Theres a few reasons why this is true. For starters, its extremely tiny and has an incredibly convenient design.
Its no secret that I prefer this style to having a tank on top when I need something portable because its incomparably better for carrying in your pocket.
But its not just the design that makes it portable. It also runs off a removable 18650 battery, which means you can get an extra to carry for extended use without stopping to charge.
Then to top it all off, the tank as a 5.5ml capacity! That may not seem like much if you are coming from a bigger mod, but for something as tiny as this, that is huge.
Overall Experience
Im a big fan of the Eleaf iKonn Total.
This is an incredible vape for on-the-go use. When Im out running errands or anywhere that Im moving a lot, I greatly prefer a smaller vape even if I have to sacrifice power. Big, powerful mods are great in many situations, but they can be very inconvenient in others.
As far as portability goes, this is about as good as you are going to get.
I think this would be a great kit to buy if you have a bigger mod and want something with more portability to use when you just need something to get the job done without getting in the way.
But its also extremely easy to use, so it would be a good starter kit for beginners who dont really care about power flexibility and just want something to work without any fuss as well.
Those looking for a more traditional setup be sure to check out the Coolfire IV 100W. And for those who want a more portable vape that offers wattage control, we highly recommend the Vaporesso Target Mini.
