A question we get a lot here at Toronto Vaporizer is how you can tell when you’re done vaporizing
. Even though vaporizing extracts the most oils out of your botanicals of any method, after a certain point it is going to run out of steam, so to speak. Here’s a guide to when your botanical has been exhausted and needs to be replaced.
The most important thing is to know that if you don’t finish vaporizing
your botanical, you can leave it inside the vaporizer and come back to it in a few days and continue vaporizing the same blend. The oils will not escape the botanical while it is sitting in the vaporizer. Even when the unit is on high temperatures, the oils only get extracted when there is airflow. So theoretically if you leave your unit on for an hour with your botanical sitting in the heating chamber, you can come back to it and start vaporizing without much waste.
Lower Temperature = More Flavor = Smoother Vapor
Most vaporizers have a number of different temperature settings so you can enjoy your vapor at the temperature you prefer. The recommended settings for vaporizing is anywhere between 190 – 235 degrees Celsius. At lower temperatures you get a very smooth and aromatic vapor, but on the flipside lower percentage of extracted oils.
If you continue vaporizing at a low temperature the vapor will fade out slowly. At this point you can increase temperature to make sure you extract more vapor.
Higher Temperature = More Extraction of Oils
When you increase the temperature on your vaporizer, the vapor will be thicker and stronger. Most recommend going up no higher than 235 degrees Celsius. At 235 degrees, however, you will already have extracted up to 85% of the essential oils from your botanicals.
When do you need to refill a Vaporizer ?
So, you are done vaping if you are at 235 degrees or the highest temperature setting on your vaporizer and no visible vapor is being released. That’s the easiest way to tell: if you can’t see or feel any vapor, then there isn’t any left to come out.
At this point your botanicals will be a dark golden brown colour. Over time you can get a kind of instinctive feel for when you’re done based on the flavour and quality of the vapor. As always, the Best Vaporizers give you the longest and most enjoyable vaporizing experience.
