Manufacturing Quality

For those of you familiar with the first Eleaf iStick Pico, you might be happy (or disgruntled) that not much has changed with this new revision aside from a marginally larger frame. Everything about the fit and finish of the Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 closely mirrors its original predecessor.

From the durable and slightly textured paint job to the overall placement of the device’s components, namely the firing button, up/down wattage buttons, and the battery compartment.

While there are a few minor changes such as the firing button being larger and protruding a bit more from the frame of the mod and a slightly larger battery compartment, everything largely remains the same.

The top of the Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 is now capable of housing atomizers up to a maximum diameter of 25mm which is a nice step up from the original which had a hard limitation of 22mm due to the placement of the battery cap.

The 510 connection is still spring loaded which allows for easy installation of any compatible atomizer that you wish to use with the mod and works wonderfully well with the included ELLO tank, making a perfect connection between the mod and tank.

Even the screen used on the new Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 looks to be the same screen used in the original. While it’s plenty functional and manages to display a good amount of information such as amp output, current voltage, and coil resistance, it would’ve been nice to see Eleaf make use of the increased real estate to implement a larger and higher resolution screen which is already the norm for many mods released in 2018.

The up/down wattage buttons are still located directly below the device which can be a boon or bane depending on how you vape, but for vapers who configure their device only once, the lack of clutter on the mod is well appreciated. The recessed buttons on the bottom make the mod ideal for portable use as well since it’s not as easy to accidentally press them when the mod is stored inside a bag, purse, or your pockets.

One minor complaint is that the larger battery cap doesn’t seem to be as well machined as the one on the original iStick Pico. Threading the battery cap on feels relatively rougher and it does snag often when removing or putting it on, just something to note when considering the overall finishing of the mod.

Flavor Quality

The Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 comes bundled with an HW2 dual coil head (pre-installed) and a spare HW1 coil. The HW2 is rated at 0.3-ohms and is best suited for a wattage range of 45-60 watts while the HW1 coil sits at 0.25-ohms and is best fired at 50-65 watts with the mod.

Flavor production is more than adequate on both coils but it’s the HW2 coil head which does a good job on balancing the output between flavor and vapor production while the HW1 coil is more of a cloud chasing build.

Regardless of which coil head you use, flavors come through satisfyingly clean and crisp as they bring out the best (or worst) qualities of your chosen e-liquid. Durability feels like it’s on par with just about every reputable manufacturer’s coil heads with flavor production tapering off after about a weeks worth of use.

While the original iStick Pico presented a compact option which was easy to take around, it was quite limited in the power department with a maximum wattage of only 65 watts.

The all-new Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 ups the ante with a bigger battery capacity which allows for a maximum wattage of 100 watts, great for those power users who love to blow huge clouds or for casual vapers who prefer a denser and warmer vaping experience.

When looking at possibilities for different vaping modes, the Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 doesn’t fall short. Aside from the standard variable wattage and bypass modes, temperature control for stainless steel, nickel, and titanium are all supported as well as an adjustable TCR which lets you dial in the power settings to a T giving power users maximum control over the kit.

And with the addition of support for larger atomizers up to 25mm in diameter, it’s easy to customize the mod with an atomizer of your choice should you decide to go with a different tank option, making for a customizable and versatile vaping experience.

Despite the plethora of options available to the Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 kit, operation is still as easy as it comes. 5 clicks on the firing button to turn the device on and another 5 clicks to turn it off. 3 clicks switches between the different vaping modes which are clearly indicated on the screen.

When it comes to maintenance of the tank, there isn’t much to complain about. The push swivel top mechanism of the ELLO tank makes easy refills on the fly a possibility.

While the tank comes with a maximum e-liquid capacity of 2ml out of the box, a chimney for extending the tank is included with the kit upping the total capacity of the tank to 4ml, a nice and handy option for those who chain vape and prefer not to refill often.

Standing at a total of 119mm tall, with a thickness of 26mm, and a width of 51mm, the Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 is marginally larger than its older and smaller brother.

The size difference isn’t that much though, at least not big enough to impact the portability of the kit in any negative way as its still an easy fit for all pockets and any portable storage medium of your choice.

The larger 21700 battery, aside from giving you the option of firing the mod at a higher wattage, also extends the overall battery life of the kit. A single charge on the included 21700 battery should get most vapers through on a single day of moderate vaping, while heavy chain vapers might find the need to recharge their batteries later during the day.

The micro USB port allows for firmware upgrades and charging through any powered USB port but as always its always recommended to use an external charger when possible.

Overall Experience

The Eleaf iStick Pico 21700 kit is a great option for fans of the original iStick Pico. The larger battery definitely allows for a broader range of vaping options with a slight trade-off in size and portability which shouldn’t impact the kit in any noticeable way.

The ELLO tank which comes bundled with the kit performs admirably with its easy topfill mechanism and wide possibility for airflow adjustments, making this kit an almost instant buy for any vaper out there looking for a tiny and portable mod which doesn’t skimp on options.

  1. Hi,

I agree with all that’s written except for the duration of the coil, definitely thinking that my unit is damaged. One day is the most I get out of each. By night time that horrid burning taste takes over. I’m currently using Eleaf HW1-C at 35W. I’d be thankful for any suggestions.
