Review: Joeytech Runabout
Aside from the yacht-inspired form factor which Joyetech has so curiously decided to imbibe onto the overall design of the Joyetech Runabout, there’s really not much that sets it apart from other pod-devices that we’ve seen released in the past two years.
That doesn’t mean that we’re not partial to the shape of the device however as the smooth and tapered shape of the Joyetech Runabout makes it exceedingly easy to pocket and hold in hand.
While the form might not be as ergonomic as other devices presented thus far, holding onto it isn’t any more difficult than holding to your typical ultra-compact pod-style devices such as the Bo One.
The Joyetech Runabout features a choice of various colored and patterned inlays to select from. The classic and tried and true black is always an easy choice for most vapers, but the other options are pretty interesting in their own right (the zebra and marble designs caught our attention especially).
Being a pod-style device, you won’t find the sort of costly and advanced tech that most box mods have to offer such as an LED display to navigate through or auxiliary buttons to help you make changes to how the device vapes.
A single button is more than enough in the case of the Joyetech Runabout as such is the case for devices in its category and it manages to do its job well enough thanks to the solid and satisfying tactile feedback it offers whenever pressed.
There’s nothing overly fancy to be seen when it comes to the coil design or technology of the Joyetech Runabout. Offering a fixed mouth-to-lung style resistance of 1.2ohms, the Joyetech Runabout offers a nice and tight draw when taking an inhale which should make vapers who’ve newly transitioned from traditional methods feel right at home in contrast to the loose and open airflow designs that most box mods are offering in the market these days.
Flavor reproduction isn’t spectacular in any sense of the word, but it does suffice in more ways than one, offering similar quality flavor compared to the popular Smok Novo.
Vapor production isn’t anything out of the ordinary as well; don’t expect to be blowing large clouds with this device as it really doesn’t offer much in this regard. Another way of looking at it, however, is its ideal for vapers who prefer to vape discreetly thanks to its relatively low vapor production.
If you’re looking for more advanced features such as variable wattage or temperature control which are typical of most high powered box devices, you won’t find any such thing here with the Joyetech Runabout. Simplicity in use is what this device is all about with its straightforward operation and no-nonsense approach to vaping.
It does have a slew of features hardwired directly into the chip however, much like every other pod-style device which help provide a convenient and worry-free vaping experience for all vapers, beginners especially.
Some of these features to name a few are its 15-second timeout protection which comes in handy for times when you store the Runabout in your pocket or bag and forget to turn the device off, preventing the coil or the battery from burning out when accidentally pressed and activated for long periods of time. Overcharging and short-circuit protection which are both industry standards at this time are also included.
Ease of Use
While the Joytech Runabout might not feature the draw-activated firing mechanism typical of most pod-style devices such as the Juul, it’s still exceedingly easy to use with its single button operation and simple refill process that even the most tech-illiterate vapers should have no trouble with the process.
The detachable cartridge holds up to 2ml of e-liquid making frequent refills unnecessary so you don’t have to worry about bringing a spare bottle of e-liquid around, not to mention that the side-fill port of the tank is easy to access and makes spill-free refilling quite easy, even when on the move.
The device features a micro-USB port at the bottom for easy charging via any powered USB port. It’s purely plug-and-play at this point as the integrated battery charges up in no time at all, minimizing downtime in between charging cycles.
With the dimensions of the Joyetech Runabout measuring out to a mere 117mm by 30.5mm by 15.5mm, the device is a no-brainer for vapers for those looking for something minuscule and portable for vaping when on the go.
The extremely low weight of 77.5 grams of the device makes it so that you barely feel it in your pocket and it never feels like additional baggage when stored in your bag or purse.
While the integrated 480mAh battery isn’t the largest capacity battery by a long stretch, it’s certainly a bit longer-lasting than average and shouldn’t give you any problems in terms of battery life throughout a single day’s worth of moderate use.
Apart from its’ unique chassis that stands to set it apart from the crowd, in terms of features, there’s really nothing spectacular when considering the capabilities of the Joyetech Runabout.
But there are times when that’s exactly what vapers are after: a straightforward and simple introduction to the world of vaping should be right up to the alley for neophyte vapers and for those tired of dealing with the complexities of more full-featured devices and that is exactly what the Joyetech Runabout can deliver.
