Life Saber Vaporizer ( LSV ) Review – Looks like a Light Saber, but will its vapor bring the FORCE?

0

The Life Saber Vaporizer (LSV) is an interesting vaporizer that is handheld yet stationary, similar to the Plenty by Storz and Bickel. The LSV is made by 7th Floor, who you may recognize as the makers of both the Da Buddha and the Silver Surfer Vaporizer. These are both well-known and well received vapes. 7th Floor is known in particular for easy to use units, made of high quality components that put our very good, thick vapor. So we went into reviewing the Life Saber with fairly high hopes it would deliver the same great quality. And overall, this vaporizer performs its job well, putting out very good, flavourful vapor. There’s more to the LSV story though, and unfortunately this unit is a bit strange and could use some improvements. Keep reading to get the full scoop on the Life Saber Vaporizer and why you might choose to invest or stay clear based on your vaporizer needs.

Life Saber Vaporizer review

Life Saber Vaporizer ReviewHow it Works

The Life Saber is comprised of an aluminum base and a giant glass wand. The base draws power through a 10 foot power cord that is attached to its bottom. Herbs are loaded into the bottom of the glass wand, which slides into a glass connector inside the base, kind of like the Arizer Solo. Once you plug in the unit, load the wand with your ground dry herbs and slip that into the base all you have to do is set the temperature and wait for it to heat up. There is a simple knob that allows you to control the temperature, located on the front of the base just above the indicator light. Once the unit is fully heated, all you have to do is take a couple draws and pass it to whoever is next. The heating element is separate from the chamber where your herbs are loaded, which means this vape utilizes convection based heating, using hot air to heat your botanicals as opposed to direct heat, which produces arguably better vapor quality overall.

Once you figure out where you want your dial set for heating purposes, this unit puts out great vapor. But keep in mind, this unit can get as hot as 480 degrees Celsius – above the point of combustion. So we don’t recommend turning the temperature dial past about ‘ 3 o’clock’ to be safe. As mentioned earlier, the heating style is entirely convection based and the vapor pathway is all glass. While the extremely long glass wand may be prone to breaking, it also helps ensure the vapor is cooled down by the time it reaches your throat/lungs, so this is a bit of a double edged sword. If you find yourself getting close to the vapor strength/density you want but can’t quite get it perfect, keep in mind that adjusting the speed at which you draw air will also alter the temperature of the air passing over your herbs. When it comes down to it, the vapor this unit puts out is the strongest mark in its favor and we were very impressed with its consistency to the DaBuddha and Silver Surfers vapor quality.

Life Saber Vaporizer Ease of UseEase of Use

Overall the unit is actually very easy to use, but if you’ve been reading along you’ve probably already picked up on some areas that add some frustration or inconvenience to the process. The first is definitely setting the temperature. Fortunately this is only really a problem when you first get the unit, considering that once you find a setting you like you can mark it and default to it in the future. The second is actually more related to when you are not actively using the vape, as you have to be very conscious of where you set this thing down, which isn’t always on everyone’s mind after a session. However, loading the unit is fairly simple, and ‘putting it together’ is as simple as sliding the inverted loaded wand into the base of the unit. This unit also heats up really fast, in just a couple of minutes (temperature setting pending) meaning it’s a great unit for a pretty fast and simple session. We should note that a couple times throughout your session you will want to stir your herbs for even vaporization, which can be done with the included pick/ stirring tool, although mid-session, fiddling around with taking the unit apart and finessing a stir isn’t ideal.

Temperature Flexibility

There’s a pretty good range of temperatures that you can reach with this vape, but they aren’t marked. However the manufacture has indicated that the unit has a temperature range between 200(ish) degrees to 900(ish) degrees Fahrenheit or between 90 – 480 degrees Celsius, approximately. So, regardless of how you like to enjoy your vapor, thick or thin, you’ll be able to get the right temperature, which is the most important thing at the end of the day. Just make sure you are ready for some experimenting with and trial and error while you figure out how to get there. As mentioned before, air flow can also affect the temperature and therefore the vapor. A slow draw will mean warmer air passing over your herb, and a fast draw will lead to cooler temps as the air won’t have as much time to heat up as it passes over the heating element.

Reach

With a 10 foot cord, the reach of this vape is definitely above average for a stationary. While it obviously can’t compete with vaporizers that allow the use of balloons, it still outperforms most stationary vapes with a standard 3ft whip since you can pass this around even a fairly large group. With that in mind, a session only lasts around 10-12 good draws, so you may need to reload a couple times if your circle is bigger than a few.

Life Saber Vaporizer with carrying bagOptions

This is an interesting vaporizer because other than the above outlined details, you can also use this is a flameless lighter. By removing the glass heater cover, you can use the heating element as a heat source for water pipes too! There are also a good deal of additional accessories you can get for this vape that can improve or add to its functionality, some of which address concerns/complaints we have. For example, there are alternatives to the large glass wand, including a more traditional whip which is much less prone to breaking. And as previously mentioned, there are also attachments made by 7th Floor that allows easy connection of the LSV to other glass pieces, including water pipes. If you are set on getting this vape, you should definitely check into these options to see what kind of additional experiences you may want to have with this vaporizer if you haven’t fully converted to vaporizing and like the option of still indulging with a water pipe.

Life Saber Vaporizer Package ContentsOverall Experience

The Life Saber is a good vaporizer, but whether or not you should buy it depends on what features are important to you. The vapor this unit creates is very good, but you have to keep in mind the durability and lack of precise temperature control. In our opinion, there are better options out there that offer these improvements and some additional functionality as well. Since this is a stationary vape, the VapirRise 2.0 is one that comes to mind. But if you like the idea of a handheld stationary, you may also want to check out the Plenty Vaporizer which is similar in design and functionality, but is far more durable. At the end of the day though, this is still a good stationary vape that is certainly unique and well made, especially for its price point

Warning: Not Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is not compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of compatible units, so we highly recommend considering a whip-compatible vaporizer to take advantage of this stellar ZEUS accessory item. All compatible vaporizers will have a compatibility notice.
