When it comes to Portable Vaporizers the current trend by manufacturers is to make the units smaller and lighter. One unit that has pioneered the ultra-portable market is the Magic Flight Launch Box vaporizer. Not only is it very small and portable, what makes this unit so interesting is that it is priced below most other portable units that size. Therefore, we have decided to take a closer look at the Launch Box to tell you the ins and outs of this great little gadget.
The unit is operated by inserting a single AA NiMH battery directly into the unit. By pushing in the battery, one starts the heating process. Vapour is drawn from a small glass or acrylic stem.
Although this process seems very simple, we can give you a few additional tips on how to properly use this unit.
Let’s start with the battery. The original batteries that come with the unit are rechargeable 2000 Mah cells. However, many people decide to get extra batteries with this unit or at some point decide to replace their batteries. The problem most people have is not knowing which batteries to get. There are a lot of knock offs out on the market which may make your MFLB not function the same way as with the original batteries. The main issue is that some batteries out there are actually “overpowered”. Batteries over 2000Mah may actually be detrimental to your handheld vaporizer. These batteries heat up the unit too quickly and can actually combust your botanical. Furthermore, these batteries also tend to overheat and they do not last as long as the original. You can find a million listings on ebay and amazon of cheap knock offs. The funny thing is that the batteries don’t have a cover, so the listing can claim that they are 2400 MaH, but there is no way to check. We actually tested and found that the original batteries actually weigh 28grams as compared to 18 grams for Chinese knock offs that were supposedly better than the originals. So be careful and don’t trust listings that make such claims. Therefore, we highly recommend only using official MFLB batteries.
How to use the Magic Flight
Another question we often get is regarding proper inhalation. In general, your vaporization window is between 6-11 seconds. Less will not give you vapor and more will burn your botanical. With time you learn to release and reengage the battery at the “sweet spot” timing (around 9 seconds), so you can keep the temperature relatively stable through your draw. This is essential for the unit to get the proper airflow. Also, you do not want to hold the battery in the unit any longer as you may combust your material.
What is also important with the MFLB is to occasionally shake up your botanicals. The unit only vaporizes the bottom layer in the heating chamber, so an occasional shake-up will ensure an even vaporization process. When you see that your botanicals have turned golden-brown and have become very dry you know that your batch is close to being finished. Another way to ensure an even heating process is to make sure that you use the right Grinder. The MFLB works best with properly ground up material so make sure that you have the right grinder. The ZEUS Grinder line is perfect for vaporization purposes.
How to clean the Launch Box
Last but not least let’s look at how to clean your Launch Box. The easiest way to clean it is by using cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol. Just make sure that the cotton swab is not too wet and don’t apply too much pressure. Any residues should easily come off with this method. The drawing stems that are made of glass can also be submerged in rubbing alcohol and washed off with hot water. The acrylic drawing stems however cannot be cleaned with alcohol but rather using hot water and highly diluted dish-soap. Make sure not to use any cleaners that may harm the acrylic material.
I hope that our tips helped you connoisseurs to get the best out of your Launch Box. After all, it’s a great unit for the price.
