Snakeskin seems to be all the rage nowadays, at least where Smok is concerned. Even the long-awaited successor to one of their most popular kits hasn’t been spared from the almost ubiquitous design. The Smok H-Priv 2 brings back the raw aggressive energy of its predecessor and kicks it up a notch. It’s got the same impressive power output of 225 watts supported by 2 18650 batteries (not included) but this time includes the Big Baby Prince tank into the mix, creating a promising new package that doesn’t only look great but also works well.
Let’s dig down into the meat of the device below and see why it might be worthy to be your next mod. Be sure to check the vape buyer’s guides for important information to take into consideration before making your purchase.
Review: Smok H-Priv 2
It seems like we’ve begun to witness the birth of a new design trend as snakeskin/honeycomb patterns are making their way to vaping kit. While snakeskin is inherently attractive and downright stunning when done right, it can also look tacky and cheap when wrongly implemented.
Luckily in the case of the Smok H-Priv 2, its a case of the former. The scale patterns are space wide enough so as not to make the overall aesthetic seem to busy, while also letting you better appreciate the wide array of excellently finished colorways that the mod is available in.
In standard Smok fashion, the bundled tank comes in a matching color which gives the entire kit a clean and uniform look.
The Smok H-Priv 2 feels well put together without any annoying wiggle or rattle felt or heard throughout the mod when used or moved about, giving a solid feel which is always sought after in all devices. The firing bar located off to the side of the mod is a bit too wide for my liking, although bigger hands should feel right at home when gripping the device.
Firing the mod feels satisfying and responsive thanks to the tactility and stability that the firing bar offers, and misfires or accidental pressing of the firing bar is a rare occasion if not absent altogether.
The spring loaded 510 connection located at the top of the mod isn’t centered due to it having to make room for the OLED display also located up top. When comparing the display of the Smok H-Priv 2 to the screens of its other high-powered Smok cousins, you might feel that the display is a bit small and underwhelming, considering the dimensions of the mod.
Personally, I’m a big fan of the tiny minimalist display, as this gives a cleaner and more streamlined look to the entire kit which lets me better appreciate the overall design.
The dual 18650 batteries are installed and removed at the bottom of the mod via the trapdoor which securely locks in place. One minor niggle is that I wish there were more battery venting holes just to give me some piece of mind, but for regular operation of the mod, battery ventilation is sufficient.
A surprisingly high-quality micro USB cable is also included with the kit which is used to update the device’s firmware or charge the batteries (although it’s always recommended to use an external charger).
Alongside the Big Baby Prince tank, the kit also comes with a V8 Baby-Q4 coil which is pre-installed. Built with quad coils and wicked with all-organic Japanese cotton, the Q4 produces some of the most intensely flavorful vapes to be experienced with pre-built coils.
If you’re more of a cloud chaser, the kit has you covered as well with the inclusion of the T12 coil head consisting of a staggering amount of 12 (twelve!) coils built into the thing, guaranteeing that you’ll be the belle of the ball when it comes to outputting the most amount of vapor.
Take note though that the T12 coil head practically gulps e-liquid so you’ll be refilling the tank pretty often when using these.
If vaping on the Big Baby Prince tank isn’t your thing, you’ll have the freedom to use any atomizer with a maximum diameter of 27mm. Anything larger than that and you’re going to get some overhang.
Thanks to the wide atomizer compatibility and the huge power range on the Smok H-Priv 2, you can power pretty much any kind of build your heart desires whether it might be an intense, cloud chasing setup, or a cool and relaxed build.
Aside from the standard variable wattage mod, the Smok H-Priv 2 also supports the entire gamut of temperature coils such as nickel, stainless steel, and titanium. The onboard chipset also supports intelligent atomizer recognition, meaning that as soon as you slap on a new coil build on the mod, the wattage automatically adjusts to the recommended power setting based on the coils resistance.
Basic safety features such as short circuit protection, over-heating protection, and an over discharge protection are also built into the chip preventing any untoward accidents.
Ease of Use
Like most devices, the Smok H-Priv 2 is powered on and off by a simple 5 clicks on the firing bar. Further adjustments to the menu or various vaping modes can be made by clicking the firing bar 3 times.
Navigating the menu is pretty straightforward as Smok seems to have taken a simplified and more streamlined approach when it comes to the firmware of the mod, drastically lowering the learning curve making it a relatively easier device for beginners to use.
When it comes to maintenance of the Big Baby Prince tank, filling it up is easy as pie thanks to their refined locking system on the top cap. A simple push of a button on the top cap is all it takes to swivel it open, revealing the fill holes to drip e-liquid into. The tank also carries a good 6ml of e-liquid making frequent refills non-existent.
It’s hard to dispute the longevity of the Smok H-Priv 2 when taking it out on the field. Thanks to the dual 18650 batteries that power the mod. Going for a full day of heavy vaping is a no-brainer for this kit. But what it has in power and battery life, it slightly sacrifices overall travel ergonomics.
While the Smok H-Priv 2 is comfortable to hold and use while vaping, the same can’t be said when tucking it away for storage in your pocket. It’s wide and thick with a width of 52mm and depth of 27mm, making it one of the least pocketable mods Smok has produced so far.
The mod also has a total weight of 227 grams, and that’s without the dual 18650 batteries required to power the mod, so just keep that in mind when planning to take the Smok H-Priv 2 on lengthy outdoor excursions.
The Smok H-Priv 2 brings good value to the table thanks to its solid construction, simple design, and powerful performance. While it might not be the most portable of devices, thanks to its bulky dimensions and weight, the battery life more than makes up for it.
