Yocan Hit Review – Should you hit it?

Updated: March 11, 2024

I’ve done my fair share of reviews on a ton of different Yocan vapes before and have generally come away wanting more, but considering the price of most of their units, I tend to give them a pass. On this occasion, I will be reviewing the Yocan Hit, a Budget Portable Vaporizer.

Will the Hit stand out from the crowd, or will the already competitive Dry Herb Vaporizers make it irrelevant? If you want to compare the most popular dry herb vaporizers at a glance, check out our ranking page.

Let’s dive into the Yocan Hit Review and figure out if it’s worth the investment.

How it Works

Step 1: Grind your herb to a medium-fine consistency. This texture works best for conduction heating, allowing even heat distribution.
Step 2: Open the chamber and gently pack the ground material into it.
Step 3: Quickly press the power button five times to turn on the Yocan Hit.
Step 4: Cycle through the temperature settings using the two navigation buttons.
Step 5: Press and hold the power button for two seconds to activate the heating element.
Step 6: Now, you can start inhaling from the mouthpiece.

For users that want to play around with the settings, they have the option of toggling between a 3-minute and a 5-minute session by simultaneously holding the power and the down buttons.

The Yocan Hit has haptic feedback, which basically just means that it will vibrate once it is ready to start the session.

Temperature Flexibility

When it comes to temperature flexibility, you can adjust the temperature in single-degree increments. This is a great feature in most vaporizers, but the Yocan Hit may not be as precise as a more premium unit. With that said, I was still quite surprised when looking at the temperature range that spans from 200°F to 480°F. You do want to be careful though as to not go past around 430°F to keep your herb in the vaporization range, anything further will result in burnt herbs.

It reaches the chosen temperature in around 30 seconds, but another 15 seconds will provide a stronger first hit. Considering a similarly priced unit like the Tronian Milatron heats up in just 25 seconds, I don’t think the Yocan Hit has much to offer here.

Vapor Quality

Yocan markets the Hit as having convection vapor, but this is certainly not true. It uses a standard ceramic conduction oven seen on many budget vaporizers but also high-end units like the Utillian 722. While it’s primarily conduction heat, we estimate there to be some sort of convective heat taking place too, at most this is a hybrid conduction unit.

The vapor path is rather short, leading to a harsh yet strongly flavored hit, and vapor production is alright, considering the price and size of the unit. Among budget herb vapes, it’s in the middle of the pack, beaten by units like the 421 Vaporizer but better than most Chinese budget herb vapes. Not great, but not bad by any means.

Manufacturing Quality

Yocan products are usually lacking a bit in this department given the low cost. The body is average, decently machined, and sleek overall. The design is a bit boring, but the integrated stir tool is a wonderful and effective addition.

We like that more units are opting to include stir tools, like the budget Utillian 620. Having said that, included in the box is a basic kit consisting of the device itself, a USB-C charger, cleaning brush, and user manual.

Overall there are not many good qualities here that give the Yocan Hit a chance to stand out. It’s pretty average looking and it feels how it looks.

Battery Life

As soon as I saw it, I had mixed feelings about the battery life. This Yocan dry herb vaporizer comes with the new USB-C standard, which is great, but it only has a 1400mAh capacity. Generally, it’s okay and you can use it for about 4-6 sessions before needing to recharge. However, it would have been better if they had increased the capacity, even if it made the device slightly bigger. Other vaporizers like the Zeus Arc GT3 can hold 3500mAh of power, and the manufacturing cost difference is minimal.

The Yocan Hit dry herb vaporizer charges in roughly 1.5 hours which is okay, but the fact that the battery isn’t removable and quite small to begin with isn’t exactly our favorite. If we had to say there’s a significant weak spot on the device, it’s this.

Portability

The Yocan Hit is pretty portable, being one of the few decent dry herb vape pens on the market. While it’s not nearly as narrow as some 510 threaded batteries, it’s still very portable and is easy to carry around.

Now, when it comes to actually using the vaporizer on the go, it’s a harder task than it should be. Partly due to the fact that the battery capacity is so low and partly due to its basic loading process. The Yocan  Hit is a top-loaded unit, which is not uncommon, but it will require users to take their accessories and materials with them.

All in all, there are definitely new budget dry herb vaporizers that offer different operation methods to overcome the loading process on the go. There are even some more advanced units like the Zeus Arc S, which is optimized for ArcPods so users can pre-pack as many as they want for their on-the-go use.

Ease of Use

Regarding the general use of the Yocan Hit, things are pretty straightforward. Using it doesn’t take much learning, and passing it off to strangers or friends for a quick hit requires little coaching.

Cleaning the Yocan Hit is quite simple too, as the included cleaning brush will quickly scrub the chamber and mouthpiece out with ease. Every half dozen sessions or so, we recommend using a Zeus grime stick or wipe to really clean out any grime and gunk properly. You can also consult our cleaning guide if you want a more detailed explanation of how to maintain your dry herb vaporizer.

Discreetness

The Yocan Hit is discreet enough to where most people won’t think twice if they see you taking a hit from it, and the only factor you’ll really have to be concerned about is smell. Since this is a unit it will produce slightly more odor than a purely convection unit.

This unit can heat up quite a bit, especially when using the maximum temperature, it will put out quite a bit of herb smell. With that said, it still produces less odor than normal smoking.

Overall Experience

Delving into the capabilities of the Yocan Hit was nothing special. It is an affordable device for vaping dry herbs but doesn’t excel in any particular area. It works decently and looks nice. It’s easy to carry around, and the built-in stir tool is very useful. It’s also convenient that it can be charged with a USB-C cable, although the battery is a bit small.

In all honesty, I’ve reviewed units in similar price ranges that provide much better results overall such as the Utillian 421, but for what it is, the Yocan Hit is not a bad choice at all!
