Kandypens Oura E-Rig Review – Your Oura is Showing
Review: Kandypens Oura
How it Works
As with any device, we highly recommend charging it fully before your first use. Next, make sure you fill the bubbler up with water to about two-thirds of the way up the percolator.
The Ouras power button is a touch sensor, press it 5 times rapidly to turn it on. The unit will vibrate to let you know it is on. Switch between temperatures by tapping the button 3 times. Double tap the button to activate Sesh Mode which heats the atomizer for 60 seconds – double tap again to cancel sesh mode.
You can check your battery by holding the button for 5 seconds. Once you have selected your temperature, double tap the button to enter sesh mode, wait for it to vibrate to indicate it has reached temperature, then inhale, slowly working the carb cap around to allow air to flow into the chamber, and enjoy!
Temperature Flexibility
The Kandypens Oura has four temperature settings as indicated by the ring of light around the base of the device. The Kandypens Oura temperature settings are as follows:
Yellow is 620F/327C, Green is 860F/460C, Red is 980F/527C, and Blue is 1090F/588C.
These temperatures, while a little on the hot side, provide a nice range for extracting the most out of your concentrate.
Vapor Quality
The Kandypens Oura can pump out clouds, but even on the lower settings the flavor is pretty average. As stated above, the range of extraction is great, so you can definitely get the full effect of your concentrate.
I didnt find the flavor to be all that exciting, especially after having tried the Core very recently, where the flavor was top notch.
As always, I appreciate any unit with water filtration, so even at higher temperatures it is not throat-melting. It does get a little uncomfortable at the end of a 60 second session on the highest temperature, so just be warned.
That being said, you can really milk (really, no one else has a problem with milk but me?) the vapor off of this device and it has the ability to knock your socks off on the highest temperature. Both the quartz atomizer and the ceramic can achieve this feat, but the quartz has the slightly better flavor in my opinion – but I will say the flavor of the vapor off of this device is nothing to write home about.
Manufacturing Quality
The Kandypens Oura has a pretty standard build, with the exception of the touch sensor button. It is as user friendly as any of the other e-rigs on the marketplace – no LED screen or anything like that – and it is a very straightforward device to use.
In case anyone has had any problems with the water bubbler, make sure the intake holes on the bottom line up with the vent from the atomizer. Also ensure that the bubbler is filled up so that the two center air holes are covered, but DO NOT get water into the intake valve.
Heat up time varies between temperature settings, but the lower two settings take roughly 5 seconds while the higher two take just over 15 seconds to reach temperature. Among e-rigs, again, this is pretty standard.
The Kandypens Oura comes with a decent amount of kit, including a quartz bucket, a ceramic bucket, a carb cap tether (cmon Puffco, throw one in there, would ya?) USB-C charging cable and wall charger, which as far as Im concerned cover everything you need to use the device well. It also comes with some pre-alcoholed (you understand what I mean) cleaning swabs.
Do I wish it had the 2-in-1 capabilities of the Focus V Tourist? Yeah, maybe a little.
Battery Life
The Kandypens Oura, as seems to be the standard with e-rigs in the market right now, has a 3000mah battery.
This is a great battery life standard, and I appreciate the USB-C charging as well, as you can top this guy up in just about an hour.
Portability
The Kandypens Oura is as portable, if not a bit less, than the rest of the competition.
It has a similar battery life, as stated above, but the case it comes with is less of a case and more of a pouch, which doesnt really separate each of the parts or protect the glass in any way.
The box it comes in, which incidentally has a very nice design, does separate all of the pieces and protect them well, and would fit in your backpack if youre looking to take it on the go a lot.
For those of you looking for something a lot safer to stash in your pocket on the go, I would check out the Utillian 2.
Ease of Use
The Kandypens Oura is simple to use, with 5 taps of the power button turning it on, 3 switching between temperatures, and 2 initiating sesh mode. Another 2 taps will turn sesh mode off, and another 5 taps will turn the device on.
It is straightforward to change out the atomizers, but (and I know you know, but I forget, so Im mentioning it) remember it gets VERY HOT. Unscrew the heat guard over the chamber and remove the atomizer. Switch them and replace the heat guard and youre good to go.
Cleaning is simple, as the buckets are really the only things you need to worry about on this device – theres no getting underneath coils. For users that want the absolute easiest-to-use e rig, we recommend the Utillian 8, which comes with an integrated multi-tool for your wax as well as a tinted bubbler that allows you to go longer without cleaning your bubbler.
Discreetness
Youre definitely not going to look normal hitting this out in public if anything, extremely strange and youll certainly have many eyes glancing your way.
No worries though, unlike other discreet devices like the Hypnos Zero or Kandypens Crystal youll more likely be taking hits from this from the comfort of a home or discreet spot in a park.
Overall Experience
The Oura is a solid device. It functions well, looks sleek, especially with the light ring around the base of it. It can certainly chuck clouds, but the flavor leaves something to be desired – again, its not bad, just not anything to write home about.
Overall, it performs on par with the devices it stacks up against, but the price point is a little too high to be as competitive as it could be especially against something like the Core vape.
For those looking for wax on the go, I would highly recommend taking a glance at the Utillian 5 (V3) and its bubbler, which gives a great vapor experience and is a little more portable.
