Linx Gaia Review – Hitting the Linx

Updated: March 26, 2024

In the later stages of 2017, Linx made another addition to their ever-growing list of Linx products and put out a slightly revised version of their intuitive Linx Gaia which was the first cannabis vaporizer to use a quartz chamber. The newly revised Gaia claims to use 100% convection heating, and for the price, that seems quite impressive! Here we check out how the new Linx Gaia compares to the old one, and if it’s any good or worth the upgrade.

Review: Linx Gaia

How It Works

To load the Gaia remove the mouthpiece cap and unscrew the quartz mouthpiece to reveal the all quartz heating chamber. Fill the chamber with your cannabis and use the packing tool located at the bottom of the device to lightly pack your cannabis down.

The Linx Gaia only has 3 buttons, the main power button and the temperature increase and decrease button. Pressing the power button 5 times will turn the unit on and you can select your temperature using the up and down arrow. Once you have set the temperature press and hold the power button to engage the heating element. The numbers on the screen will increase to meet your set temperature and then you are ready to vaporize.

Temperature Flexibility

The Linx Gaia Vaporizer offers users precise temperature control, this means you can set your temperature down to the individual degree with a max temperature of 220C.

This gives users plenty of room to work with, users who prefer light draws can set the unit between 180C – 200C and users who prefer clouds can bump the temperature into the 200’s. We recommend you experiment with different temperature to find your own sweet spot for the vapor that you enjoy.

The Gaia gets up to speed in about 20 seconds’ time, depending on your heat setting. This is slightly faster than average in terms of portable vaporizers. Users that prefer higher flavors tend to look at devices with higher temperature ranges like the Focus V Pro.

Vapor Quality

The Gaia is a pretty good experience. At lower temperatures, the vapor comes out very flavourful and definitely on the upper end of the spectrum in terms of quality! At higher temperature, you can get 3-4 draws before flavour begins to taper off quickly. Cloud production isn’t anything fantastic, especially at lower temperatures where you won’t see much at all. When getting to higher settings, you can get a few reasonably sized clouds out of it.

Due to the relatively short vapor path and no intricate cooling chamber, higher temperatures are quite harsh and definitely cause more lung/throat irritation than normal. I feel like the vapor quality is entirely indicative of the price, not being better than higher end units but certainly a step above entry level portables.

Though they suggest a 100% convection experience, the bowl certainly does heat up to an extent and provides a certain degree of conduction heating too. In no way is that a bad thing at all since the ever so popular Mighty uses hybrid heating as well. It’s something to keep in mind though if you were looking for a pure, 100% convection experience.

Overall, the vapor quality is pretty good, but I really wish there were a little more to it. The quartz heating chamber is a great idea, however, I don’t feel as though it truly makes much of an effect. It is a step up from the original Gaia in vapor quality, which wasn’t bad by any means either. It does the job, and that’s what it’s meant to do!

Manufacturing Quality

Linx products are designed with an apple-like flair that gives the user the feeling of quality when they open the box. Linx products just aren’t vaporizers, they are works of art. The Gaia has a sleek almost urban professional appeal to it that would make you proud to have it displayed on your coffee table.

But it is not just the looks; the device itself appears to be well constructed with no visual defects, smooth finished lines, and a brushed aluminum finish. The mouthpiece seems to be a signature of Linx and can be found on all the products they offer which gives the unit an elegant finish and functions very well.

The quartz chamber is impressive to look at and you can actually see the heating elements through the quartz lined walls. Unlike Zeus Arc GTS Hub that has a gold heating chamber, the only thing we fear about a quartz chamber is how it will stand up to a drop or hard bumps. Quartz, though it does have some resilience will break more easily than ceramic or metal. Users who love this vaporizer also buy a case along with it to increase the life span because if the heating chamber was to crack or shatter the device as a whole would be useless and probably not covered by warranty. Not to mention if the glass splinters it could be potentially harmful to inhale from. So this is definitely a unit you need to be careful with.

The display is large, bright and vibrant and buttons respond as they should. At the bottom of the Linx there is a packing tool that is locked into place with a magnet, we really liked this feature.

The only feature we could do without is the magnetic cap that goes on top of the mouthpiece. There is nowhere to store the cap when the device is in use, forcing you to either hold onto it or put it in your pocket. But beside this small quirk this unit appears to be very well built.

Battery Life

Included is your standard 220mAh battery. You can get around 5-7 sessions per full charge, depending on the temperature settings you use. You’re not able to directly access the battery and thus can’t swap it out, unfortunately. It charges in about 3-4 hours with the included MicroUSB charger, which is par for the course.

I would’ve liked to have seen a 3000+mAh battery included for something at this price point, or at least an interchangeable battery. It does the job and it’s certainly not as bad as some vaporizers (cough cough, Crafty+), however, there are some out there that spout far better battery life for cheaper, namely the Focus V Pro.

Portability

The Gaia stows away very nicely in any pocket! Offering a discreet form factor, it’s great for use on the go. Reloading the chamber whilst out and about isn’t much of a hassle, though it would’ve been nice to see a slightly wider ‘mouth’ like the Storz & Bickel Mighty Vaporizer to make it a little easier. The integrated magnetic stir stick at the bottom makes it a little more convenient too!

The durable stainless steel body feels like it can handle a great sum of abuse too, so if you’re not particularly gentle with your devices, you likely won’t have to worry. Be wary of scratches though!

Ease of Use

Being so straightforward, the Linx Gaia Vaporizer is very easy to use! With no confusing draw techniques, smartphone apps or loading mechanisms, a complete beginner could pick it up and be getting good results within minutes!

The three button design of this vaporizer definitely makes it easy to use, however, there is another vapor in the town known by the name of Utillian 722. It has just 1 button taking it to the whole other level of easy to use vapor.

Cleaning is equally simple. Our users prefer to use Zeus Purify Cleaning kit to clean their vaporizers but you can also use a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol makes any work of any build-up within the chamber. Same goes for the mouthpiece.

Discreetness

Being quite small and shaped like your standard e-juice box mod, the Linx Gaia won’t really raise many suspicions. People who want to stay low profile tend to lean towards the Zeus Arc GTS Hub.

The reasonably quick heat-up time makes having a short session fairly easy as well. After a session, throwing on the included magnetic cap helps keep most odors self-contained and less of a worry if that’s an area for concern.

Overall Experience

The updated version of the Linx Gaia is certainly an improvement over the past model and is a perfect companion for its wax pen brother, the Hypnos Zero, bringing together eloquence and performance. It offers users a unique, all quartz heating chamber to deliver a smooth and flavourful conduction/convection hybrid vapor experience.

Though not a huge change, the vapor quality difference and Linx Gaia mouthpiece filter enhances the experience ever so slightly. The signature Linx mouthpiece is still a joy to use and provides a decent draw that most users will enjoy.

Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system engineered by Canadian vape manufacturer ZEUSArsenal. The Iceborn is designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The vapour produced is ultra smooth and crisp and because of ice cooling, instead of water filtration, there is no loss of efficiency. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of this vaporizer and is a highly recommended vaporizer accessory.
