Manufacturing Quality

Anyone who’s been closely monitoring the evolution of Smok Products might be aware of one big thing they’ve improved on as the years go by: the finish.

The lastest Smok S-Priv is no exception to this rule as it sports a stunningly beautiful gloss finish resistant to nicks, chips, and flaking off, which is a huge improvement from the Smok Alien heydays.

Available in an unbeatable array of stunning colorways, there’s undoubtedly a version of this mod which is guaranteed to tickle your fancy.

One of the possibly most polarizing characteristics of the Smok S-Priv is the design that Smok has decided to implement on the front of the mod. Featuring a large and bold skull motif which features the devices up/down buttons on the brim of the top hat, it’s definitely a love or hate affair when it comes to the aesthetics of the Smok Priv.

Moving on to good news, the build quality of the Smok S-Priv is wonderfully rock solid. The device feels so sturdy and hefty when held in hand and there is virtually no rattle or wobble when moving the device about. This is especially felt when looking at the trapdoor battery hinge located at the bottom of the mod. Users who are interested in 510 thread cartridges for oil often prefer the Oilax Cito.

Often a part of many mods where quality control is overlooked, the Smok S-Priv doesn’t suffer the same fate as the battery door feels sturdy without the slightest hint or wobble or rattle when opening or closing the battery doors.

The Smok S-Priv sports a similar firmware and OLED color display as the Smok ProColor which is a great thing. Colors and fonts are vivid and sharp making the screen very legible, making operation and manipulation of device settings a breeze.

Flavor Quality

Flavor production is nothing new when it comes to Smok’s Big Baby tank and its included V8 coils. The kit comes with two coils out of the box; A V8 Baby-Q2 EU Core rated at 0.4-ohms which is pre-installed uses a dual coil configuration, while the V8 Baby-T8 Core is rated at a much lower 0.15-ohms utilizing a quadruple coil layout for maximum cloud production.

Flavors come through clean without any weird aftertaste which can be sometimes be experienced with lower quality coils and its good to see that Smok has upped the quality control on their coil heads. People who use 510 cartridges tend to prefer the Tronian Tautron.

Featuring a similar chipset to the Smok ProColor, the Smok S-Priv boasts very similar performance. There is close to zero firing delay when pressing on the firing bar located at the side of the mod, and ramp up is very quick even when firing at higher wattages. Airflow and vapor intensity is easily adjustable thanks to the dual bottom airflow slots allowing you to fine-tune your vaping experience as you see fit.

When it comes to vaping modes and features, the Smok S-Priv has these in spades. Aside from the standard variable wattage mode which lets you set your desired power output to a tee, the Smok S-Priv also has temperature control which takes advantage of temperature control coils built out of titanium, nickel, and stainless steel.

Output feels fairly accurate when vaping in temperature control and it’s a great feature to use, especially once you configure it properly (which isn’t difficult at all thanks to the intuitive menu interface).

The interface also employs the good practice of displaying the individual charge levels of each 18650 battery installed inside the Smok S-Priv which is invaluable when it comes to battery safety and making sure that both batteries are properly balanced.

While there is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to getting know the device and its capabilities, it’s not difficult at all to just jump straight in at vape at variable wattage mode.

Simply turn the Smok S-Priv with the standard five clicks on the firing bar. Set your vaping mode to variable wattage or VW mode by clicking the fire button thrice, set your desired wattage and you’re good to go.

Refilling and maintaining the bundled Big Baby tank is no arduous affair either as Smok utilizes its signature swivel top fill mechanism to open up the top of the tank for easy e-liquid refills. The tank holds up to a respectable 5ml of e-liquid which is far from scarce, making frequent refills a thing of the past.

Portability

The Smok S-Priv is surprisingly compact despite its flexible and powerful feature set. Measuring out to a total height of 142mm (tank included), with a total width of 47mm and a length of 30mm, the Smok S-Priv easily fits into medium to large sized pockets, making it easy to carry with you on the go.

It’s a bit hefty though especially with the two 18650 batteries installed with a total weight exceeding 200 grams for the entire kit so it might not be the best option for sporty or overly active vapers who like to run or hike with their mods.

The battery life is pleasantly above par which shouldn’t be a surprise anymore when considering the batteries that are going into this device. A full charge easily lasts through a full day of heavy vaping, and light to moderate vapers can easily get away with two full days of use.

While the device does sport a micro USB charging port for on the fly charging, its always recommended using an external charger when dealing with multi-battery mods.

Overall Experience

It’s hard to fault the Smok S-Priv for its vaping capabilities. The 225 watts of output goes a long way in terms of overall versatility and flexibility when it comes to achieving your desired vaping style.

While the design choices that Smok implemented in this kit might not appeal to all vapers out there, those appreciative of the unique and fun styling this mod has to offer can rest easy when considering the impressive specs this kit has to offer. However, there is not much to set it apart from the already hugely successful Smok Procolor.

If you want something extremely simple, check out the Kandypens Rubi and if you are looking for a mod style kit to start with we recommend the SMOK Procolor.
