Review: Vaporesso Orca Solo
For anyone familiar with past devices that have been released in the market, it’ll be no big surprise for me to say that the design of the Vaporesso Orca Solo borrows heavily from that of the Aspire starter kits as well as the Aspire Nautilus. Down from the sleek tubular shape of the base of the mod, all the way to the smooth bullet-shaped curve of the tank.
While the design may not exactly be ground-breaking or original, it’s hard to deny the fact that it looks great. There are slight differences to be found of course, such as Vaporesso forgoing the two-tone look that the Aspire mod uses, opting for a more uniform color scheme that matches the overall form factor of the kit a lot better.
The Vaporesso Orca Solo is available in 7 colorways, namely purple, silver, rainbow, black, mint green, metallic grey, and rose gold.
Constructed out of rock-solid stainless steel, the Vaporesso Orca Solo provides an excellent hand feel. The mod doesn’t wiggle or rattle in any way, although due to the extremely smooth finish it can feel a bit slippery for vapers with sweaty palms. Due to the 800mAh battery being built into the device, there isn’t any battery door to be found, meaning that all battery charging will be done through the mod itself via a conveniently located micro USB port at the side of the mod.
The Vaporesso Orca Solo operates with only a singular fire button which feels tactile, slightly clicky, and very satisfying to press, offering close to zero firing delay upon the actuation of the device.
The bundled tank is constructed out of the same high-grade stainless steel as the rest of the device, with a touch of glass for the tank. What sets this tank apart from your typical atomizer is that it uses a metal sleeve which does a great job in case of accidents such as the mod dropping or tipping over, effectively protecting the glass tank shattering into a million little pieces.
The sleeve does come with windows that still give you a good view of the contents of the tank, letting you know how much e-liquid is left. The included drip tip plugs into place and gives a very comfortable feel, It’s also constructed out of Delrin, properly insulating your precious lips from the heat that the device generates.
When it comes to flavor, it’s hard to top Vaporesso. Thanks to their CCELL technology that makes use of ceramic coils, flavors come through exceedingly clean and pure without any unwanted flavor that one might get from using regular kanthal or stainless steel coils.
Not only do these ceramic coils provide better flavor, they’re also much more durable, easily outstripping the longevity of regular coils by a long shot.
The kit includes one CCELL coil and one regular coil, both rated at 1.5-ohms. The rather high resistance of these coil heads means that you aren’t going to get major cloud production that rivals bigger box mods in any way.
The low fixed output supplied by the 800mAh also means that the Vaporesso Orca Solo is best when vaped with high-nicotine e-liquid in order to get the most satisfying experience, although low or zero nicotine e-liquids will work just fine for vapers who are trying to wean off nicotine altogether.
The Vaporesso Orca Solo vapes at a direct current supplied by the internal battery. This means that variable wattage really isn’t an option with this device. While this works just fine for beginners or for fans of mouth-to-lung style devices, those looking for a much more powerful and condensed vape are better off looking into box mods which support variable wattage. Needless to say, temperature control options are lacking in this kit as well.
Despite the lack of customizability in regards to the output of the Vaporesso Orca Solo, it still manages to output a decent amount of vapor, and when paired with a high nicotine e-liquid it does its job in spades, providing an exceedingly satisfying job as a dedicated mouth-to-lung device.
Ease of Use
The Vaporesso Orca Solo is perfect for the budding beginner to vaping as it’s one-button operation eliminates all the needless clutter that typically plagues bigger box mods. Simply charge up the device with via the included micro USB cable, an LED light will indicate when the mod is fully charged and ready for vaping.
Filling of the tank is easily and painlessly done thanks to its convenient top fill design. Just screw off the top cap, drip your e-liquid of choice down into the glass chamber and screw the top cap back on.
If you’re using a new coil, it’s best to let the e-liquid sit in the tank for a few minutes to let the coils saturate with e-liquid and to avoid any initial and unwanted dry hits. 5 clicks on the fire button turns the device on while another 5 clicks turns it off for safe storage.
The Vaporesso Orca Solo is easily a device that you can take around with you on the go without it being too bulky or heavy. With the dimensions of the mod measuring out to 119.5mm (height) and 16mm (diameter), it easily fits into any storage space you think of such as your bag, purse, or even pocket.
The 1.5ml capacity of the tank also means that you won’t need to refill the mod often, reducing the hassle of everyday operation.
While an 800mAh might not seem a lot relative to bigger box devices, it goes a long way when used in a dedicated mouth-to-lung device such as the Vaporesso Orca Solo. I’ve found that Vaporesso’s advertised 190puffs stands to be rather accurate within the typical margin of error, and this is more than enough to supply any casual vaper with more than enough vaping power to last the entire day.
To be frank, there aren’t any real reasons not to get this kit. If you’re a fan of the sleek and slightly understated styling and are in the market for a portable mouth-to-lung device that performs well, the Vaporesso Orca Solo does an outstanding job of providing a satisfying and reliable all day vape that should please any beginner.
If you are looking for the most portable and straightforward unit we would probably chalk that up to the Kandypens Rubi.
If you are looking for a mod-style vape to start with we suggest checking out the Vaporesso Swag.
