Those in the market for a portable, easy to use, pod-style mod should definitely be paying attention; the Voopoo Panda just might be the mod to cater to all of your needs. With the pod’s whopping e-liquid capacity of 5ml, you’ll hardly ever find yourself refilling mid-day. The Voopoo Panda kit is a regulated device that fires up to a maximum of 8 or 12 watts depending on the pod you use with the kit.
The kit also supports micro USB charging with an internal battery rated at 1100mAh. Let’s take a closer look at the details of the device and see how it performs. Be sure to check the vape buyer’s guides for important information to take into consideration before making your purchase.
Editors Note: For those interested in the convenience of a pod-based system but want the versatility of using your own e-liquid we suggest checking out the JWELL La Carte, a simple yet elegant open pod-based unit that offers 2ml of juice capacity and fast charging through USB-C. The La Carte is the best solution for those looking for a flexible pod-based system.
Review: Voopoo Panda
Probably one of the most striking features of this kit upon first glance is the stark white and black colorway that it comes in. The Voopoo Panda is heavily inspired by its namesake, using a primarily white color with black accents on the drip tip and fire button to simulate what I assume to be a panda’s ears.
Despite its diminutive size, the Voopoo Panda is surprisingly comfortable to hold, which is mostly attributed to the rubberized finish that coats most of the device that gives it a smooth yet grippy texture that makes it easy to hold, especially for vapers with sweaty palms.
The drip tip is comfortably shaped to provide an ergonomic mouthfeel and the insulation works well to prevent any heat from the coils transferring to the lips. The oval fire button is hard to miss as well thanks to its large obtrusive shape, making it easy to find based on feel alone. It’s satisfyingly clicky, providing sufficient tactile feedback whenever activating the device.
Considering how light the Voopoo Panda is, one might assume that the overall fit and finish of the device would be relatively lackluster, but in fact, the tight tolerances on the mod provide a very solid hand feel without any annoying creaks or rattles.
The bottom of the device showcases the micro USB port used to charge the internal battery and while the location isn’t exactly ideal, it does help preserve the aesthetic of the mod. A large battery venting hole is also located at the bottom which does more than an adequate job of keeping the internal battery nice and cool at all the times, even when under heavy use.
The pods are constructed out of durable and chemically inert polycarbonate material, ensuring that no plastics leach into your stored e-liquids at any time.
While the maximum output of 12 watts might seem a tad too low especially when compared with the majority of box mods in the market, the Voopoo Panda is primarily a mouth to lung device thanks to the rather constricted airflow provided by the coils.
Due to the MTL design, the mod works best with concentrated e-liquids. Flavor production is more than satisfying and individual notes from your e-liquid of choice come through with every puff.
While vapor production pales in comparison to what higher powered box mods are capable of, it still manages to hold its own, especially against smaller devices such as the Juul. If you’re looking for more clouds, the Voopoo Panda might not be the best device for you, and if you’re interested in a similarly sized and styled device, feel free to check our review on the Joyetech Atopack Penguin for a stronger sub-ohm vaping experience.
Despite the Voopoo Panda being a regulated device, variable wattage isn’t a supported vaping mode, unfortunately. While being forced to vape at a fixed wattage may not sound so inviting for heavy power users, the Voopoo Panda provides the perfect vaping setup for beginners transitioning to vaping.
This almost goes without saying but the Voopoo Panda doesn’t support temperature control either so if you’re looking for a complete kit that does it all, you’d be better checking out something like the Vaporesso Swag.
Despite having said all this, the mod doesn’t come without its own set of features that ensure a worry-free vaping experience. Built-in failsafe such as short-circuit protection, a 10-second firing cutoff, and overcharge and discharge protection are all supported by the mod.
Ease of Use
Getting the Voopoo Panda set up and ready for use is fairly straightforward and hassle-free. After the mod is done charging via the included micro USB cable (which should take about an hour), simply pull off the white protective cover, remove the pod which is affixed magnetically, remove the rubber seal at the bottom of the pod then proceed to fill it with your e-liquid of choice.
The mod turns on with the standard 5 clicks on the fire button and fires almost instantly upon pressing the fire button. While the refilling method can definitely be improved a bit by relocating the fill port to the top of the pod instead of the bottom, the current setup is still far from challenging and newcomers to vaping should have no problems maintaining the Voopoo Panda and keeping it in tip-top shape.
With dimensions of 75 * 47.5 * 27.4mm (height, length, width), the Voopoo Panda is as portable as can be and it easily slips in and out of any pants pockets regardless of the pocket’s size. The smooth and seamless ergonomic shape makes it a pleasure to hold, even for long and extended vaping sessions, and the firing button is perfectly placed within easy reach.
The 1100mAh internal battery does a good job of supplying the mod with enough power to get you through an entire day of vaping, regardless of how much and how often you vape.
The micro USB charging port makes it a breeze to charge the mod, whether you be at home or on the go as long as you have a powered USB port nearby.
The Voopoo Panda definitely has a lot of things going for it: adequate battery life, an ergonomic shape, a strong battery, and reliable vaping performance just to name a few. Not to mention that its relatively easy to use operation will no doubt make it an even more compelling option for all the newbie or soon to be vapers out there.
