Wellon Ripple Review – Ripple Effect

Updated: September 26, 2022
“Just one kiss & enjoy a great vape” probably might be the easiest to remember tagline to ever come with a vaping device ever. While most copywriters do a poor job at connecting their words with the actual performance of the device, the slogan in the context of the Wellon Ripple actually makes sense (almost). This unique all-in-one slash pod device makes use of conductive plates on the mouthpiece to fire up as soon as you’re ready to take a puff.

Manufacturing Quality

The first thing most pod-style vapers are sure to notice is the size of the Wellon Ripple. Despite being marketed as a pod-style device, it’s definitely a bit larger than the rest of the competition, rivaling the overall feel and weight of your standard all-in-one mod.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing though as not all vapers are looking for the absolute smallest mod out there (which can easily get lost by the way), but if you’re looking for the absolute best when it comes to portability, the Wellon Ripple does the job although many other devices do that job better.

Encased in an aluminum frame, the Wellon Ripple definitely feels sturdy and gives off a nice air of premium-ness which can be surprising given its relative size. It definitely doesn’t beat around the bush either in regards to aesthetics as it looks as simple as any vaping device could be which should appeal to those who favor minimalist designs. If you’ve been using big box mods with 510 carts it may be time to look for something smaller, most vapers tend to start with Linx Hermes 3 for their oil because its much more compact than a mod.Wellon Ripple available colors

The only unattractive feature about the mod is the large and arguably gaudy branding found on either side of the mod which really detracts from the simplified look it could have otherwise achieved.

Like most pod-style mods, the Wellon Ripple uses a magnetic connector to attach coil/atomizer head to the body of the device itself making it a quick and easy affair to remove old coil heads and attach new ones. What’s new however is that the mouthpiece uses the same magnetic assembly which makes refilling the pod from the top even easier.

Flavor Quality

Again, despite being labeled as a pod-style device, the Wellon Ripple doesn’t perform anywhere close to its brethren. The main reason for this is that the proprietary coil design as 4 airflow slots built in and the mouthpiece doesn’t have any method for restricting this airflow.

The end result is a loose and airy vape which makes the Wellon Ripple feel a lot more like a low-powered direct lung vape. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, it bears mentioning that the Ripple is designed to function as a starter kit meaning mostly newbies will be vaping on it.

While we hate to make sweeping generalizations, it can be argued that beginners tend to prefer a tighter draw on their vapes, something that the Wellon Ripple cannot provide.

Airflow aside, more important questions need to be asked. How is the flavor quality? What about the vapor production? Well, the answer to that question is…slightly middling. While the Ripple does a decent job at producing clouds, the same can’t be said unfortunately about its flavor quality. Users who are interested in 510 thread cartridges for oil often prefer the CCELL Palm.

Even for a portable low powered device, any flavors coming off the Wellon Ripple all felt a bit muted, which we’re 100% sure is due to the airier airflow design. If Wellon designed the Ripple to have a tighter or more restrictive draw, no doubt the flavor would improve.

The Wellon Ripple is your basic pod-style starter kit so its pretty much a given that it’s not going to have any extra features such as variable wattage/ voltage, much less temperature control or adjustable TCR.

Firing at a fixed output dependent on the remaining battery level, the Ripple still does a decent enough job of delivering reliable output, but the loose airflow definitely puts a dampener on things. If you enjoy a cool and airy vape though, the Wellon Ripple should be right up your alley.

One thing that the Wellon Ripple does right though is it lets you refill the pod with whatever e-liquid you already have. This makes it possible to vape with a variety of e-liquid solutions which produce a much more satisfactory vaping experience when used in tandem with the Wellon Ripple.Wellon Ripple top part

Unlike most pod-style devices that use an air activated sensor in order to fire up the mod whenever you’re taking a puff, the Wellon Ripple does it a little differently. With the help of two conductive plates  located on the mouthpiece itself, putting your lips over the plates/mouthpiece essentially completes a circuit which enables the device to fire up, making it one of the safer devices to use and store given you don’t keep it within close proximity of other loose metal objects such as spare change or your house keys.

Replacing an old coil for a fresh one couldn’t be easier. Just pull on the coil and it should come away easily from the body, making for a quick and tool-less process.

Setting up and charging the device is easy enough thanks to the included micro USB cable and well-documented user manual/guide included by Wellon in the package.

Portability

Despite our comments early on about the Wellon Ripple being larger than your average pod-style mod, it’s still plenty pocketable with overall dimensions measuring out to  80mm by 30.5mm by 16.5mm, making it simple to slip in and out of your pocket.

The internal 650mAh battery is no slouch either as it supplies the mod with a full day’s worth of power before requiring a recharge which is pretty much the golden standard of any device in this size category.

Overall Experience

Despite its shortcomings in flavor production, the Wellon Ripple is definitely worth a look especially if you’re in the market for a small and pocketable device that doesn’t scrimp on the battery and also has a lot of airflow relative to its size.

If you’re in need of something with a tight draw, however, the Wellon  Ripple might fail to scratch that mouth-to-lung itch for you and you’ll be better off considering the multitudes of other pod-style devices that can deliver a much better mouth-to-lung experience.
