Connoisseurs are always hungry for knowledge of how vaporizers stack up against each other. Today we are looking at two unique portable units: The Pinnacle and the WISPR 2. The Pinnacle is a hybrid style portable from the people at VaporBlunt while the WISPR2 is butane powered and comes to us from the people at Iolite. Let’s see who comes out on top in today’s Vape Showdown.
WISPR2 vs Pinnacle
The Pinnacle produces good quality vapor. It uses a hybrid of convection and conduction style heat. This efficiently heats your botanical and makes for decent extraction. Airflow is managed quite well, producing vapor quickly and with virtually no odor leakage. The vapor can be pretty hot and irritating, but you can get improve the quality if you add the Hydro Tube accessory.
The WISPR 2 produces good vapor. The consistent temperature created by the purified butane extracts smooth and dense vapor. Due to the catalytic converter, you don’t have to worry about breathing in any butane, which keeps the flavor devoid of any butane flavor. The heating chamber is quite efficient but the air path is mostly plastic and silicone. This diminishes the quality of the vapor a bit but it is still decent.
The Pinnacle does a lot of things right in terms of manufacturing quality but could still be better. You load your botanical into stainless steel canisters, load the canister into the unit and start your session with the easy to use 1 button design. There are a couple of problems with this unit despite its best efforts. Changing the canisters can be difficult since they become hot to the touch after you vape. The other main problem is the plastic mouthpiece. It feels cheap and it can get quite hot after extensive use, making it uncomfortable to use. At high heats, it does give off a bit of a plastic flavor to your vapor and it can also break pretty easily when you are changing it. We would definitely like to see a glass mouthpiece instead.
The WISPR 2 has great manufacturing quality. This unit is very discrete and easy to travel with. A big advantage of this unit is the catalytic converter. This component extracts the energy from purified butane in a really efficient manner. It is available in multiple different colors, but in all cases, the body is completely made of plastic. You can also grab the optimizer accessory to improve your vapor density. The mouth piece is silicone in this case, but it doesn’t end up being a problem as the material is high quality and the heat doesn’t affect it the same way it does the Pinnacle’s mouth piece. The big downfall here is that there is a pretty high defect rate with the WISPR which means you could be in for a surprise right out of the box if you’re unlucky.
Ease of Use
The Pinnacle is quite simple to use. You load your canisters, attach your mouthpiece and hit one button to start heating. It takes about 70 seconds to heat up to the lowest temperature, as well as an additional 20 seconds on top of that if you are going for the higher temperature setting. The canisters can get quite hot, making it difficult change and load your botanical quickly without injury.
The WISPR 2 is very easy to use. You click the button and wait. It takes about 35 seconds to heat up and has a window that lets you see the current fuel level. It’s is also really easy to load and change your botanical. You never have to come in direct contact with the botanical and heating chamber, preventing any injury to your hands.
The Pinnacle is a very portable unit. In terms of size, it’s roughly 5.5 inches tall and 1 inch in diameter. This makes it quite easy to carry around with you in your pocket. The battery life allows you 45 minutes of continuous vaporizing before you need to recharge it. Charging takes about three hours to get you to full and unfortunately, you can’t use it while it is charging.
The WISPR 2 may not be as small, but it is still very portable. Since it is powered by purified butane, you only have to worry about topping up your fuel once in a while. This is a nice change from having to make sure that your batteries are charged. Due to butane use, this unit is ideal for cottage and camping trips where you don’t know when you will have power again.
The Pinnacle is very small and discrete. It is light, weighing less than 100g and the black shell isn’t very noticeable. Vapor leakage is very low, so other people won’t notice it if you are vaping in public.
The WISPR 2 is somewhat discreet. You can heat it up quickly and silently for the most part. The mouth piece also folds away when it is not in use to keep the profile of the unit less awkward. The problem with the unit is that it has a bit of an eye catching design, so people will notice you using this in public. Odor leakage is quite low and it doesn’t produce too much of a smell, but it does make a slight hissing noise while in use.
This is an easy category to evaluate because the Pinnacle has two temperature settings, 190 degrees Celsius at low and 200 degrees Celsius at high while it’s competition only has one. This puts the WISPR 2 at a clear disadvantage.
Winner – Pinnacle
After much consideration, testing and discussion, our winner today is the Pinnacle. It was a close call for the Pinnacle, and a good fight from the WISPR 2, but the pinnacle simply wins out in more categories. The WISPR2 is a good portable vaporizer but it took major hits in discretion and temperature flexibility that secured the Pinnacle’s victory. Better luck next time, WISPR!
