The WISPR is the improved version of the IOLITE v2 by Oglesby and Butler. Butane powered units like the WISPR give you the freedom to go wherever you like and never worry about batteries running out. And now Oglesby and Butler has now released a new version of the WISPR with improved performance! It has fewer manufacturing issues and vaporizes at a higher temperature for denser vapor. Here’s a review of the new features of the WISPR 2.
How it Works
The WISPR 2 has a valve for butane on the bottom of the unit. Shake the can of purified butane and then insert the nozzle into the valve on the unit. Firmly push the can into the unit and hold for two seconds, and then repeat until a little butane runs out at the edge or check the gauge by holding the unit to the light. Check our Refined Purified Colibri Butane post to learn more about butane for the IOLITE and WISPR. The new WISPR 2 works with a button instead of an ignition switch. When the button is pressed, the heating starts and turns on the orange LED at the front. The heating chamber is attached to the mouthpiece, so when the unit is fully heated just pull it out, insert your botanicals, and replace it. From now on, the indicator light will go on and off to keep the unit at a constant temperature. As long as the unit is on, it’s heated at a constant temperature and you can take draws through the mouthpiece.
The WISPR 2 only heats at 210°C, which is a great temperature for vaporization. The density of the vapor also depends on the strength and speed of the draws you take. This temperature is higher than the temperature of the Iolite and the previous WISPR, so it’s more efficient at extracting vapor.

The temperature stability of the new WISPR contributes to its good vapor quality. The slightly higher temperature helps the WISPR 2 extract denser, smoother vapor than the previous model. If you’re using purified butane, the temperature will be very consistent, offering the best quality to the vapor. The butane is processed into heat by a catalytic converter, so none of it is going to get into your vapor. The heating chamber is designed to efficiently use all of your botanicals, especially if you use the optimizer accessory. The air path is mostly plastic and silicone, but this unit still gives decent vapor quality for a portable. The WISPR 2 has new features based on what Oglesby and Butler learned from making the previous units. This is their most up to date and sophisticated unit yet. The heating chamber design has been altered to make it much more efficient in extracting vapor from your botanicals. The efficient catalytic converter gives the unit only a 30 second heating time. Oglesby and Butler has won awards for their role in Ireland’s economy, and their patented butane heating system is designed to use butane without letting any of it near your vapor. The ignition system was pretty much the only thing that could go wrong with the previous model, and that’s where Iolite has focused most of their improvements. The new model heats faster and to a higher temperature, and just uses a button instead of the former ignition switch. It comes with a two year warranty. To keep this new unit safe and protected, be sure to get a Portable Soft Case.
The WISPR 2 is pocket sized and easy to hold. It’s 9 cm long and 3 cm wide. You can fold down the drawing stem, so the entire thing is very compact. Best of all, of course, is the butane, which means you never have to worry about charging if you’re outside. One full tank will last about two hours of continuous use, and a can of butane will last you a long trip with no electricity needed. The WISPR has an inset window so you can easily see the level of butane left and refill your unit when it needs it. It’s perfect for long trips or days out. The WISPR 2 has a great looking design that’s available in a huge number of different colours. The drawing stem folds away into the unit, so it’s less noticeable. When it’s folded up what you have seems to be a great looking box. It’s definitely noticeable, but it’s not noticeable as a vaporizer. It’s larger and bulkier than the Iolite and some other portables, but this is to make it stay cooler to the touch when in operation. There’s hardly any smell coming from the unit, since everything is sealed inside. See where the WISPR stands in discreetness on our Most Discrete Portable Vaporizers post.
Ease of Use
The actual use of this unit is fast and easy, since all you have to do is press a button and then wait 30 seconds for the unit to heat up. The process of filling the butane tank seems complicated, but you get used to it really quickly. It only takes seconds, compared to the hours battery powered units need to charge. Now with that extra saved time, you can pick up an 100% Organic Cleaning Kit to regularly maintain your brand new WISPR 2.
The WISPR has always been designed with appearance and portability in mind. The new model is just as stylish as the original but has brand new features making it easier to use. It gives you a system that will work without you ever worrying about charging your batteries. It’s also very fast. This is a unit for connoisseurs concerned with portability and discreetness who want a good looking unit as well. It’s got several new features and improved functioning over the Iolite, and it’s worth the price difference. If you are stuck between the Iolite and WISPR, head over to our WISPR vs IOLITE post.
