How It Works
Like every other wax pen, you need to charge the Focus V Aeris fully before you use it. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to use Focus V Aeris:
- Step 1: Remove the Magnetic Mouthpiece and place some Wax inside of the chamber.
- Step 2: Place the Mouthpiece back on and press the button 5 times.
- Step 3: Single clicks will cycle through the different temperatures.
- Step 4: Double-click the ‘V’ button to start your session. Once it is fully heated, the Aeris will vibrate.
- Step 5: Inhale from the mouthpiece. You can extend your session by double-clicking the button again at the end of your session.
These steps will help you use the unit straight out of the box, but Focus V also added App compatibility, which gives you even more options. With the app you can adjust the temperature presets and LED colors, amongst other things.
Vapor Quality
When it comes to vapor quality, the Focus V Aeris is a standout performer in the wax pen segment. Thanks to its 3D heating chamber, which is found only on units like the Utillian 8, an Electric Dab Rig, it allows for quick cleaning between sessions and ensures that the vapor quality remains clean. 3D chambers are advanced heating systems designed with integrated tracers that evenly heat the bottom plate and side walls of the chamber, enhancing vapor production. While not all high-flavor devices utilize 3D chambers, models like the Utillian 6 rely on bottom-heated chambers combined with other features to deliver exceptional flavor. Notably, the Aeris was the first wax pen to incorporate a 3D chamber, setting a benchmark for creating a similar high-quality vapor experience.
Unlike other pens that require regular, more involved cleaning, the Aeris keeps things simple. A quick wipe with a Q-tip after heating is often all it takes to maintain a pristine chamber, ready for the next use. This convenience is a significant factor in Aeris’s higher price point, but for those who savor their sessions and the flavors of their concentrates, it’s a worthy investment.
Thanks to its precise temperature regulation, the Aeris produces vapor that is both flavorful and smooth. From the first draw to the last, the vapor’s quality is consistent, without any overheating or loss of terpene profiles.
The Focus V Aeris might just have the best vapor quality of any current Wax Pen. It is comparable to convection units, which only exist currently on Dry Herb Vaporizers such as the Utillian 723.
Overall, the Focus V Aeris is a device for connoisseurs who appreciate the finer details and are willing to invest in a superior vaping experience. So, if you’re looking for a wax pen that delivers time and time again, the Aeris might be worth a shot.
Manufacturing Quality
The manufacturing quality of Focus V Aeris is also good. It has a hard shell that makes it durable, and the silicone cover wraps the device, which is soft and pleasant to touch. The vortex lines on the body also look premium. The ergonomic grip of the lines makes it comfortable and secure in your hand during use.
The Aeris comes with a magnetic mouthpiece with the same silicone cover as the device’s body. But, the silicone is not in the airpath at all which removes the slight smell you see on budget units. Still, if you dont want to use a silicone mouthpiece, you can choose devices like Tronian Gammatron, which comes with a Zirconia mouthpiece. With the Zirconia mouthpiece, you dont need to worry about overheating and flavor distortions.
On that note, the mouthpiece of Aeris has a Black Ceramic Insert that cools down the vapor and can be pulled out for cleaning. However, it’s a bit tight and tricky to dislocate the outer part of the mouthpiece from the inner part. You have to press down on the sides with your thumbs to slide it out. Just be careful because it can break easily.
The mouthpiece also has two air intake holes that you can use to control the airflow. You can cover these holes with your finger to reduce the airflow or use them as a carb cap. When I cover both holes and inhale, I feel a strong vacuum with no air leaks, thanks to the strong magnets that create an airtight seal around the chamber. This is quite impressive.
Temperature Flexibility
The Focus V Aeris stands out for its temperature flexibility, a feature that’s crucial for any serious vape enthusiast. With the ability to fine-tune the temperature settings, users can find the perfect temperature for their concentrates, ensuring optimal vapor quality and flavor. It has a temperature sensor which basically helps you get more consistent vapor out of it with the precise temperature settings.
The full temperature range of Aeris is 365-600°F (180°C – 315.56°C) which is pretty good. You will get 5 temperature presets, which can be visible with 5 different LEDs as follows:
- 425°F/218°C Blue LED
- 450°F/232°C Yellow LED
- 475°F/246°C Green LED
- 500°F/260°C Purple LED
- 525°F/273°C Red LED
The Aeris’s intelligent app remembers your last temperature setting, so you can pick up right where you left off without the need to readjust every time you use it.
Remember, a key part of having a good vaping experience is finding the right temperature for you. Lower temperatures often provide a more flavorful and enjoyable vapor, while higher settings give you denser clouds. Experiment with Aeris’s settings to find what works best for you, and don’t be afraid to adjust as needed for different concentrates.
Portability
When it comes to portability, the Focus V Aeris might not be the most convenient option. While its robust construction and durable materials are excellent for longevity, they make it a bit bulky and heavier than other vaporizers. The hard shell and silicone cover add to its size, making it less ideal for discreetly carrying around in a pocket or small bag.
But, the silicone grip with the vertex lines makes it easy to grip and carry. It’s more suited for a backpack or a larger bag, which might not be ideal for users looking for a vape to use discreetly on the go.
When it comes to carrying the device with extra concentrates, it helps me if I get an in-built wax container or storage to carry concentrates like the Tronian Gammatron. It has a wax storage container with an airtight seal which is actually hiding at the base of the device. Unfortunately, Aeris doesnt have any compartment where you can carry additional concentrates when you are on the go.
For vapers who prioritize portability, a smaller device like the Tronian Gammatron might be a better fit. It’s designed to be more compact and easier to carry around without sacrificing too much on the vapor quality. For more portable options, we recommend you to check the portable vaporizers section.
Discreetness
The Focus V Aeris, with its advanced features and robust design, offers a lot to those who prioritize vapor quality. However, when it comes to discreetness, it’s important to consider the device’s size. While the Aeris is not overly conspicuous, its size does mean that it won’t be the first choice for vapers who need an ultra-discreet device.
Due to its 3D heating chamber and the technology packed inside, the Aeris is larger than some of its more discreet counterparts, like the Tronian Gammatron. But the Gammatron won’t provide the same power when it comes to vapor quality, so it’s really up to personal preference. However, if you’re willing to compromise slightly on size for the sake of superior vapor quality and cleaning convenience, the Focus V Aeris is currently the best option.
Battery Life
The Focus V Aeris’s battery life isn’t its strongest point. Its 800mAh battery capacity is not adequate for longer sessions. The 3D heating chamber consumes the battery faster. For some perspective, its most direct competitor is the Utillian 5, which comes with a 1500mAh battery (almost double the battery capacity of Aeris).
But it’s not all bad news. The Aeris has a couple of features that help make up for the smaller battery. It has a USB-C cable so that you can charge the device faster. The battery is also modular, meaning you can remove the bottom piece of the base that contains the battery and separate it to charge more conveniently.
The Aeris also lets you keep an eye on your battery level with its app. You can even adjust some settings right from your phone, like the RGB lighting, to make it your own. You can charge the device with the included USB-C cable. The light on the back will flash during charging and remain solid once fully charged. This process can take up to 2 hours, and it’s recommended to charge the device completely before use.
Ease of Use
Its easy to use the device. Though it has very complicated apps that allow you to control your device and see the current stats, it also helps you with the temperature presets.
If you press the button three times, you will see LED play mode that you can change based on your temperature presets. You can set and customize the LED display from the apps. It actually looks good like some dancing lighting but it is not suitable if you want to be more discreet.
However, when you use the app, you can set up temperature presets, session timers, and custom presets for both temperature and session which is super useful. To me, too many features seem complicated. I love simplicity but if you want something extra that is not ideally essential, Aeris is good to go.
Make sure you put the concentrate in the bottom of the chamber because the closer it is to the hole, the more wax you may notice trying to flow through. So, when it comes to cleaning the device, make sure you clean the bottom of the chamber. You will get cotton swabs to clean the device while doing regular maintenance.
Final Thoughts
In my experience with the Focus V Aeris, it is by far the Wax Pen with the cleanest and strongest vapor available in the portable Wax Pen category. There are a few reasons for that, but primarily because of the inclusion of a fully functioning 3D Heating Chamber. Not only is the bucket-style chamber more efficient, but it’s also easier to maintain between sessions, which will allow you to keep your vapor consistent.
Now, to put this into perspective, I think this is the absolute best Wax Pen for those of you who have the money to spend and absolutely want the best vapor quality. But, if you are looking for a more cost-effective unit or, specifically, a very portable unit, there are more options out there that win over the Aeris. If you are curious to see which devices can go toe to toe with the Aeris, we made a condensed Wax Pen ranking list to make things simple.
Overall, the Focus V Aeris is a special sight to see, and I commend Focus V for journeying into such a difficult process that is merging what people love about big devices like E Rigs and the convenience of having a Wax Pen with its portability.
