The Utillian 8 Turbo took home Best E-Rig Overall. After a team consensus, we decided to rank it highly, and our reasons as to why differed. Kirill's main reason for ranking it here is the Swap-Cell chamber design. The chamber is split into two parts, a metal housing that holds the sensor (and doesn't wear down) and a ceramic lining that does the actual heating (and wears down over time). Because those two parts separate, you only need to replace the ceramic lining when it degrades, not the whole chamber. That brings the recurring costs down to about 20% of a full chamber replacement.

I really enjoyed how consistent the vapor was. Part of it is the heating tech from the chamber design I just mentioned. Heat is located on the sidewalls rather than the bottom. Nima's take is that consistency is really the main reason vapor quality feels premium. The terp pearls and the vortex airflow (tornado-like), created by the spinner cap, keep concentrate moving along the sidewalls (where the heat actually is). Consistency is the benefit, but it's worth noting that moving parts wear over time, especially the spinner cap, which needs occasional cleaning to keep the rotation smooth. Speaking of which, there are actually two spinner caps that differ slightly. One is meant for thicker pulls, and the other lets in a bit more air, so it produces slightly smoother vapor.

Battery life is strong at 3150 mAh with real time power adjustment, though there's no pass through charging(as it places too much strain on the battery). The mouthpiece portion of the glass is quite wide, which makes pulls easier, but the extra airflow can stir up the water more than expected, so keeping the water level a bit lower than usual is the move here.

Overall, the U8 Turbo is a great E-Rig that can truly adapt to most use cases, while bringing long-term maintenance costs extra low. This is why we gave it the Best E Rig Overall award.

The New Puffco Peak Pro earns Best E-Rig for Concentrates mostly because of the 3DXL chamber. It's about 40% bigger than the previous Peak Pro chamber, and roughly 80% bigger than the original Peak. The heating tech on the Peak Pro 3DXL relies on sidewall heating rather than full 3D or bottom-plate heating.

This technology isn't the only thing that allows this unit to output smooth, consistent vapor. Puffco added a sensor that tracks heat along the chamber walls. This allows the Peak Pro to control the temperature to a more precise degree. That said, the main way to control temperature is through presets(which it has 4 of). I much prefer to dial in a specific temperature. The good news is that I could manage that through the Puffco Connect app, which lets you customize presets. Overall, the chamber is great, and in our experience, nothing else in this lineup tracks temperature this well(see heat signature images in the gallery), which is part of why it's the most expensive chamber to replace once it wears out.

I also noticed that silicone is used quite a bit, which is usually not the best. After speaking with our engineers, they agreed that silicone is necessary here to keep the unit compact. Speaking of compact, the battery life lasts around 35 to 40 heat cycles, which is on the lower end, but the one-handed form factor just doesn't leave much room for a bigger battery.

Overall, the Peak Pro is a unit that just looks and feels premium. It's the kind of unit that immediately comes to mind when users think of high-quality dabs with high-quality concentrates.

The Switch 2 is a premium E Rig that offers a unique take on efficient heating. It uses omnidirectional induction heating. To put it simply, it uses electromagnetic force to heat up the insert evenly from all sides (which makes it super even). What really makes it work consistently is its IR Sensor(infrared). This sensor is among the more expensive types and is very accurate (it measures the temperature and allows the unit to adjust).

If the heating tech is so advanced, why haven't we really seen it on other prevalent units? Well, the main reason is that induction requires a lot of power, which usually translates into a much larger unit, which not everyone is ok with.

That size shows up the moment you pick it up. The Switch 2 is definitely among the larger units on the list. Its battery life is not bad, but depends a lot on what temperature you're using. Speaking of which, the Switch 2 has 5 preset temperatures (400°F-540°F). On average, it lasts 20-40 sessions per charge(closer to 20 on high settings and 40 on low settings).

Now, one thing I noticed immediately was the carb cap. If I'm honest, I wasn't a huge fan of how it felt. Kirill, on the other hand, found it to be simple but effective. The truth is that Dr Dabber had to build a manual joystick-style cap since Puffco holds the patent on the automated version. Still, the manual cap still gets the job done well.

What I definitely did enjoy, however, was the App. You can shape heating curves across steady, ascent, and descent modes (they change how heat is applied, not how much). On the app you can adjust a ton of different settings, and this is where the Switch 2 really became a solid at-home device for me. I also noticed that seeing the settings on the app is much easier than on the device in certain cases(as the LED’s are harder to see in very lit environments).

Overall, the Switch 2 has carved a lane of its own, and does a great job of providing a new perspective on high-quality vaporization.

The Utillian 8 V2 is on the list because it shows that 3D chambers can be more affordable than initially thought. It uses a BurstHit chamber, heating from the sidewalls and the bottom together.

So how did Utillian accomplish this, and how good does it actually work. The honest answer is that the temperature control isn't sensor based, it's calibrated in software instead. Kirill didn't think this mattered much in practice. I noticed it a little more. Sessions felt just slightly less consistent back to back compared to the sensor based units higher on this list. I don't think it's as noticeable for most users, but since I like the ultra premium sessions, I did notice the difference. Still, for its price, it does well enough that it makes it quite high up on the list (due to the value provided).

The chamber itself is on the smaller side compared to newer 3D and XL chambers. Load a normal dab, and you won't think twice about it. There are 4 preset levels plus a Boost Mode, and it gets the job done, and there's no app control to adjust in more depth. Similarly to the 8 Turbo, the 8 V2 comes with terp pearls to ensure the concentrate gets broken up consistently and doesnt pool in your chamber.

Battery life is surprisingly strong. The 3150 mAh cell is one of the largest we've seen at this price, and that's also why it runs a touch heavier than some other budget picks, that extra capacity has to live somewhere. The zirconia tool that comes with it doubles as a carb cap and dab tool, a genuinely nice touch, though if you already carry a dedicated wax axe, you probably won't reach for it much.

Overall, the value that the U8v2 provides is unmatched for its price. For users looking at 3D chambers or sophisticated technology, but don't want the price tag attached to it. The U8v2 compromises on some of the temperature tech but provides high-quality heating at a fraction of the price usually associated with it.

The Carta Sport is an E-Rig that stepped up to the plate after the Carta 2 (a very popular unit) was pulled from the market due to a patent settlement. The joystick style carb cap the Carta 2 used is gone, replaced with a glass globe air intake. I'll be honest, it's a slight downgrade in feel, it just doesn't move air as precisely as the joystick did. Still, I felt it was enough to get the job done.

The Intelli Core atomizer is what actually carries this device. It's the same 3D chamber tech found on premium units like the Utillian 8 (heats the bottom and sides), and it heats fast, 15 to 30 seconds to get going. Five presets cover 480°F to 565°F, and connecting through the app opens that up to 365°F to 635°F. Worth knowing before your first session, the lower presets run longer, and the higher ones run shorter on purpose. Blue at 480°F runs for 60 seconds, Red at 565°F runs for 40.

Kirill really enjoyed the battery improvement. The 2700mAh cell is around 35% bigger than the original Carta's, which works out to 30 to 40 dabs per full charge in our testing. For me, the bigger win is the removable Carta Connect airpath. I tested freezing it for about 20 minutes, which hardened the reclaim, making it much easier to remove. That said, it's made of silicone, which is super durable, but it does affect flavor if you don't clean it regularly.

Another feature that keeps the vapor smooth is the extra wide bubbler, though it's also the largest bubbler among the travel-focused rigs here.

Overall, the Carta Sport is simple but premium. Its price tag is much more reasonable than its competitors', but the trade-offs clearly point to less flavor and more consistency.

The Dr Dabber Switch Go is an interesting E Rig that at first glance simply seems like a simpler Switch 2. And while this isn't completely off, how Dr Dabber did this is quite unique. Nima did a full video teardown where he took the Switch Go apart on camera, and this showed us exactly how the heating works. It isn't induction like the Switch 2. Inside are two ultra-thin mesh heaters making direct contact with the titanium chamber, warming it from the sides and the bottom at once.

The main reason it feels consistent is a contact sensor in the heating assembly that accurately reads temperature as the session progresses. The concentrate sits in a quartz insert that never comes into direct contact with the mesh. I noticed 2 main benefits to this. First of which, the fully quartz bucket feels much more like a traditional rig, but also, similarly to the 8 Turbo, the part that wears down over time (quartz insert) is much more affordable to replace than an entire atomizer.

The tradeoff is energy and time. Heating two walls at once takes more power and a bit longer than a standard 3D ceramic chamber, and that extra draw catches up with the battery, it depletes faster than other e-rigs with similar capacity simply because there's more mass in the heater pulling from the same cell. The carb cap is functional but mostly just gets the job done.

The app genuinely earns its keep here, though. Shaping heating curves across steady, ascent, descent, hill, and valley modes actually changes what a session feels like(without changing your temperature). Like most app connected e-rigs, that software layer is baked into the price, and most people settle into one or two favorite curves and stop opening it after a while, but the option to get that specific is definitely appreciated by most.

Sessions run a fixed 45 seconds, but the Peak does include a boost mode if you want to extend your session timer a bit. I found this feature quite useful, since I enjoy lower-temperature dabs and prefer a slightly longer session to ensure I extract all the concentrate. I really enjoyed how simple this made things day to day, and Kirill pointed out it's genuinely easier to bring places too, the smaller size actually helps here rather than just being a spec.

Silicone shows up a lot in this build, and it's worth understanding two separate things about that. It's a more durable material in the sense that it doesn't crack or shatter the way ceramic or metal can if the unit takes a drop. It's also a more affordable material to manufacture with, which is why the New Peak is half the price of the New Peak Pro. The tradeoff here is that silicone is porous, which can affect taste over time, especially if you're not staying on top of cleaning.

When it comes to the battery, it on average lasts 30 heat cycles per charge, less than a larger rig might offer, mainly because the compact, one-handed size just doesn't leave much room for a bigger cell. No Bluetooth or app either, so you're working within the 4 built-in presets as they are.

For the price, real 3D chamber tech and a joystick cap aren't things you find at this level everywhere, that alone makes it worth a look if you want something simple to run. That is why we gave it the award of Best E Rig for Beginners, it's easy to use and still offers a great session.

The Bomb Aerix is an E Rig that offers some unique features starting with its 22mm ceramic chamber with heating across the full sidewall. To keep the unit affordable, while still offering a fully 3D chamber, Bomb added a bit more plastic and silicone to the construction(trades a bit of flavor for a more affordable price point). The Aerix has quite the temperature range, spanning from 200°F to 700°F. While the range is definitely among the biggest on the list, I found that during testing, sufficient vapor only really gets generated around 350°F on the lowest end.

As a quick note, both Kirill and I noticed that the temperature in the chamber is slightly higher than what the degree suggests. We recommend testing out lower temperatures first and gradually increasing to find the sweet spot. Thankfully, the large range makes it possible to still find the right temperature for you.

Now, what makes the Aerix unique is its bubbler setup and specifically its percolation design. The bubbler includes a bottom percolator. To fit that design, airflow routes outside the device through a silicone tube connecting the atomizer to the glass. Silicone is porous, so the tube can accumulate residue over time and requires periodic cleaning to maintain consistent airflow. Kirill noted the tube can shift slightly during use and occasionally needs to be pressed back into place.

One more thing to note is that I found the Aerix to respond quite well to its manual heating mode. Basically, the Aerix offers the option to run session modes (Set temperature and set timer). It also has the option for manual heating, which means that the heater only activates as you press down and hold the main button. I found this type of session to work best with slightly higher temperatures (350°F-600°F), but ultimately, because the chamber runs hotter than the temperature displayed, we recommend testing out both heating types to find whichever works best for you.

Overall, the Aerix is a good unit for users who want to focus more on vapor output rather than flavor-focused sessions.

The downside is that entire chamber replacements tend to cost much more than modular chambers (like the U8 Turbo swab cell). It's one of the first units to implement 3D heating on a budget, so it's not as advanced as the units we see today, but it gets the job done for a fraction of their price.

When it comes to operating the unit, it's pretty simple, and follows the same pattern as most single-button designs. It has four presets that run from about 401°F to 500°F, and an aluminum carb cap that manages airflow slightly to keep concentrate moving as it heats(reducing hot spots).

Running the same preset across back to back sessions, I noticed the output wasn't always super consistent, the heater doesn't hold a selected temperature as tightly as the sensor based chambers on pricier units in this lineup. It's a direct result of where the cost savings came from, the temperature control here is simpler than what you'd get from a dedicated sensor reading actual chamber heat in real time. This type of setup works best for users who want to crank out vapor, and might be too outdated for users who want higher quality (flavor-focused) sessions.

The Ispire (aka Ispure) Daab has been around for a long time relative to most e-rigs on this list, and Ispure has used that longevity to put out a number of limited-edition designs over the years. The Daab tries something different for its price point, induction heating, which, up until this point, has really only shown up on far more expensive units.

Heating works through induction rather than direct contact, and the temperature range runs from 250°F to 800°F in 5-degree increments, wider than most other units on this list. That said, I found that the range is a bit too large to be used entirely. Usually, a 200°F range is more than enough, when temperature accuracy is accounted for.

Induction requires more energy to run than a standard ceramic chamber, and heat up time reflects that, it takes longer to get going than the standard 3D chambers and even bucket style chambers.

Running it across back-to-back sessions, I noticed the actual heat was slightly higher than what's displayed, especially the more sessions you run in a row. Dropping your target temperature slightly below what you'd normally set keeps things closer to where you actually want to be.

Battery runs on a replaceable 18650 cell. This is great for on-the-go use, but overall, I noticed it was a bit on the lower side, which makes sense given that the induction heater requires more power to operate. That said, glass is used quite a lot in the design (which is good for flavor), from the cup to the airpath itself. The bubbler(also glass) gets the job done, but it's not as efficient at cooling down vapor, largely because it's among the smaller glass bubblers on the list.
