Megatoke Review – MegaStoked or MegaJoke?

Updated: October 6, 2023

We’ve been asked a few times to review the Megatoke devices as they seem to be high-end, luxury units. It’s important to note the Megatoke is NOT a herb vaporizer; it’s an e-smoker. Very different than a vaporizer, however, we felt like giving it a review! Coming in at a not so insignificant $299USD for the Megatoke and a hefty $349USD for the XL variant, are these top-price units worth it, or is it just blowing smoke? Check out what we have to say about the Megatoke in our review!

To be honest, I am much more into vaporizing after Canada legalized Cannabis. It is just way more efficient on your cannabis and money, compared to the Megatoke’s smoke. Check out the best cannabis vaporizer, to see what is available to you there.

Review: Megatoke

Megatoke Review

Megatoke heating chamber

How it Works

The Megatoke is very simple to use. After opening the chamber, fill it up with as much cannabis as you like before resealing the chamber. Affix the mouthpiece to your lips or bubbler and hit the power button. Inhale as you would and turn it off after you’re done hitting it. That’s all there is to it!

There’s no temperature control to speak of at all, not that it matters much since it’s meant to combust cannabis.Megatoke available colors

Manufacturing Quality

For the price paid, we’re almost embarrassed by the build quality of the Megatoke. It seems durable and looks fancy, but the build quality itself is on par with $50 pieces. The Megatoke in this regard almost feels like the antithesis to a simple looking yet well built device like the Arizer Solo 2 . The return and warranty procedure is also very poor which basically states returns are not accepted and only a 30-day warranty as we get with vaporizers like the Utillian 722 for 1 whole year.

Included in the minimalist box is a mouthpiece, water pipe adapter, cleaning brush, 2 heating coils, button protector, instructions, charger, battery, and charger. This is pretty standard, however for the price we expected a little more with better quality.

Ease of Use

The Megatoke is supremely easy to use, requiring just one button to power it on like the Vessel 510 thread battery and overall simple operation, a hamster could probably figure out how to use it. Cleaning is required frequently to keep it running smoothly, though cleaning the unit is a pain.

After you’ve ran a few sessions through it, you’ll basically never be able to get the smell out. Tough scrubbing with isopropyl alcohol and leaving the pieces to soak really never got the smell out entirely, though it worked to reasonable success.

Megatoke performance

Performance

The first hit delivers some okay quality flavour which gets lost on the next hits. There’s minimal ash and soot coming through the mouthpiece which is expected and nice. Through a bubbler, the hits can get pretty large and definitely does the trick.

Though the device accepts wax and other types of concentrates, we find it’s quite a waste using them in the Megatoke. A dedicated wax pen vaporizer or dab rig like the Utillian 5 (V3) will do much better.

The Megatoke and XL variant both come with just one battery rated at 700/2100mAh respectively. This is embarrassing considering the cost. This is good for about 10-15 hits on the Megatoke and 30-45 on the XL variant, which really isn’t too bad, but nowhere near what you’d expect for the price.

Oh and there’s no integrated charging port. Yes, you need an external charger to charge the battery. Thankfully, there’s an external charger included (it used to not be) and it’s not the end of the world, just a minor annoyance.

Megatoke full kitOverall Experience

For the price you pay, the Megatoke and its XL variant are a terrible value. I couldn’t see something like this costing more than $50, which is still on the high end of the spectrum for an e-smoker with no impressive qualities. Spare parts are sold on their website for an absurd cost, the warranty and return policy is laughable, and overall we’re not very impressed.

Given the lackluster performance, we’re hoping to see improvements in the Megatoke V2 which we plan to review as soon as we get our hands on one.

If you’re going to drop that amount of money on an e-smoker we would advise considering a proper vaporizer instead, for that price you can get a high-end unit like the Zeus Arc GTS Hub or Mighty enjoy a more refined session, and get the value for what you paid.

If you’re still not ready to make the jump to vaporizing and prefer the old ways of combustion, you’d definitely want to check out our Bud Bomb review. Not only is it cheaper, it’s also easier to use and yields slightly better results.
