Mighty vs Mighty+ (Plus) Comparison

Updated: October 6, 2023

With the somewhat recent release of the much awaited and already heavily reviewed Mighty+ from Storz & Bickel, we figured it was long overdue for a match up against its trusty albeit slightly outdated brethren, the original Mighty vaporizer. Both well known for their consistent dry herb vaping performance, the Mighty and the Mighty+ are at the top of their respective price and performance brackets. What we’re here to figure out however, is if it’s still worth picking up the original Mighty at a discounted price versus it’s recently updated and more expensive sibling. Full details down below!

Unfortunately Storz & Bickel didn’t address the relatively considerable design drawback of the mighty and just adopted it into the mighty plus framework. If you want to read about that, we wrote about it in this post, so we will not address that issue here.

Mighty vs Mighty+ (Plus) Comparison

Mighty heating coilsHow it Works

Straight out of the box, the differences between the OG Mighty and Mighty+ are few and far between and you’ll be hard-pressed to find any physical differences between the two vaporizers aside from the slight change in color scheme.

One of the most obvious changes is the Mighty Plus’s inclusion of a USB-C charging port instead of the standard DC port found on the original Mighty.

The OG Mighty does feature a more complete kit, including a grinder, loading kit, and a liquid mesh pad, all things that are unfortunately lacking with the Mighty+.

For those looking to get into vaporizing and not looking to spend much, the OG Mighty does present a better value proposition versus the Mighty+ which seems to be more targeted towards seasoned connoisseurs that already have these accessories on hand.

MIGHTY+ Battery lifeTemperature Flexibility

With both Mighty vaporizers featuring precision temperature control and the same display they pretty much have the same feature set.

The only thing that might serve to justify the extra dollars commanded by the Mighty+ is the new SuperBoost function to give the almost fully extracted herb in the chamber a final kick with the final result being a more fully toasted herb compared to the original Mighty.

MIGHTY+ vapor qualityVapor Quality

Vapor quality-wise you can pretty much expect the same results from either of these two vaporizers.

They feature much of the same free-flowing airflow that put the Mighty on the map and while the all-new ceramic layer on the herb chamber of the Mighty+ does make it a tad easier to clean, it doesn’t really amount to any distinguishable upgrade in flavor or vapor quantity when compared to the OG Mighty.

MIGHTY+ manufacturing qualityManufacturing Quality

It’s hard to find any notable differences between these two flagships from Storz & Bickel. Both feature the same medical grade plastic construction that while not offering the most aesthetically pleasing of designs, does provide a very practical and functional workhorse of a frame. The finned exterior on both of these vaporizers do a fantastic job of keeping heat away from the user’s palms.

If we had to nitpick though, the Mighty+ does feature the more optimized design. The grooves are more widely spaced apart which allow for easier cleaning in between sessions or whenever necessary. The Mighty+ also features two fins at the bottom of the vaporizer which serve to provide more stability for when placing it on a level surface for when cleaning the chamber or loading dry herb into it.

MIGHTY+ Battery lifeBattery Life

Battery life between these two vaporizers largely remains the same. The draw comes in when it’s time to charge them. Not only does the USB-C charging port on the Mighty+ allow for more flexibility with regards to your power source, it charges the device in record time reaching an approximate 80% in just 40 minutes (given your USB power source is capable of delivering 45 watts).

Both the Mighty+ and its predecessor support a bypass charging mode which means having the battery completely depleted isn’t a deterrent to getting your vape on. Using either of these two Mightys while plugged in completely bypasses the batteries and instead draws directly from either the DC or USB power source when used.

MIGHTY+ portabilityPortability

While neither the Mighty+ or its older sibling are exactly the best standard for a portable dry herb vaporizer given their relatively large dimensions, they both still manage to be surprisingly lightweight weighing in at just under 230 grams. Given the lack of user replaceable battery on either of these two, the outdoor savvy connoisseur will feel more at home with the Mighty+ thanks to its better access to a compatible power source, unlike the OG Mighty which will require a power outlet.

Unless massive cargo sho]=ts or pants are your outfit of the day, don’t even think about storing either of these two in your pocket. They’re simply too bulky to provide any form of comfortable fit compared to the majority of compact dry herb vapes being offered in the market.

MIGHTY+ ease of useEase of Use

If you plan on vaping dry herb straight into the bowl without using the optional dosing capsules, the Mighty+ just might be the better option unless you don’t mind spending a bit more time cleaning the chamber. The ceramic lined herb chamber of the Mighty+ has a lower tendency for residue or grime to stick to it.

When it comes to their actual setup and use, both vaporizers are pretty much on par with each other. The straightforward controls and easy to read display make setting either device up a painless process, even for the most non-tech savvy connoisseur.

MIGHTy+ discreetnessDiscreetness

These things are almost brick-like in size and shape so you can forget about using one in public without attracting attention.

Both Mighty vaporizers are close to impossible to conceal in your palm unless you have giant-sized hands. Their hard-hitting performance which tends to dole out a lot of vapor is also something which you need to watch out for if you’re looking to vape discreetly.

MIGHTY+ overall experienceOverall Experience

The Mighty+ introduces a few modern features and quality of life fixes that make using and maintaining the device easier than it’s old-but-gold counterpart. If you’re undecided between the two, it mostly boils down to price and requirement. If you imagine yourself incapable of living without USB-C charging, you just might have to pony up the extra bucks to get the Mighty+.

If you don’t mind the outdated charging port on the older Mighty and manage to find a good discount on it (approximately half the MSRP of the Mighty+) then by all means go ahead and pick up the OG Mighty. It might be an outdated design but it’s still one of the reliable and hardest hitting portable dry herb vapes on the market.
