Omura Series X Review – Not So Xciting

Updated: October 6, 2023

It’s been a few years since Heat-not-Burn devices have been introduced into the market as a newer and healthier alternative to get your nicotine fix. Since then, the tech hasn’t exactly been basking in the limelight especially when it comes to flower/herb vaporizing. The Omura Series X is here to try to change things up, featuring a Heat-not-Burn system specifically tailored to vaping herb. If you’re curious to find out how it does compared against traditional herb vaporizers, hesitate not and read on down below!

Before finally deciding on a vaporizer however, make sure to check out our comprehensive vaporizer buying guide for tips on how to select the best device for your specific needs.

Review: Omura Series X

                                                               How it Works

One of the constant annoyances that you’ll have to deal with when using a typical conduction/convection vaporizer is the clean up. It’s not a step you can skip either as it directly affects the performance and quality of your vape especially as time goes on.

The Omura Series X completely forgoes that caveat thanks to its completely maintenance-free operation. Simply charge up the device, insert your pre-filled Flowerstick of choice, then inhale. Clean up is a non-issue as all you need to do is toss the Flowerstick in the bin as soon as it’s fully consumed.

                                                               Temperature Flexibility

This is where the Omura Series X falls behind the rest of the pack as it offers only two preset temperature settings. Even basic and entry level pen-style vaporizers offer a minimum of 3 voltage presets which you can select from to better match the consistency of the material you’re vaporizing.

On the upside, this makes things a lot more straightforward for those looking for a simple device that doesn’t require any tinkering to get started with. The fact that Omura also sells their own pre-filled Flowersticks meant to be used exclusively with the Omura Series X means that the preconfigured temperature settings baked into the device are the most ideal for heating and not burning the Flowersticks.

                                                                Vapor Quality

Unfortunately one of the weakest points of the Omura Series X was its overall flavor and vapor output. When it comes to pre-filled sticks or cartridges we usually expect a better than average flavor but this sadly wasn’t the case for the Omura Series X.

Upon inhaling, the flavor we got was closer to cardboard or paper than actual flower. Vapor production was weak and even using our own dry herb with one of the empty Flowersticks didn’t yield better results. For the same price of the Utillian 722 you can get a vaporizer that offers a similar form factor but actually manages to vaporize dry herb effectively.

The majority of their Flowerstick line up are CBD heavy which is geared towards general pain relief and relaxation. We didn’t get any of that either with their pre-filled flowersticks which leads us to believe there might be an issue with the paper provided or the heating element itself.

                                                                 Manufacturing Quality

The finish and fit of the Omura Series X is definitely one of its stronger points. The device itself is svelte and sleek (the lack of physical buttons especially contribute to this) and doesn’t have any rough edges or corners providing a comfortable fit in the palm of your hand.

The satin finish isnt prone to marring or chipping and is quite resistant to fingerprints and finger oils, a nice plus for the neat freaks out there who like to keep everything they own spic and span.

Unlike other vaporizers that tend to use glass parts for their mouthpieces or cartridges, the Omura Series X relies on you inhaling directly from the Flowerstick. This provides less points of breakage or failure should you mishandle or drop the device, a definite plus for those who tend to be all thumbs.

                                                                Battery Life

Omura USB C port

The Omura Series X is pretty economical in terms of battery usage so it’s not unusual to get a full days worth of sessions out of it depending on how frequent you vape. While the battery is unfortunately not user replaceable it does manage to offer the convenience of a Type C USB port and an elegant charging dock for when charging the unit at home or at the office.

Charging time is quick as well, reaching a full charge in as little as 1-2 hours depending on how depleted the current battery levels are. You won’t be left hanging for too long if the battery happens to run out of juice.

We really can’t recommend the Series X though if you think you’ll be vaporizing more than twice or thrice a day since the battery won’t be able to keep up. Power users tend to gravitate more towards meatier devices such as the Mighty which have a lot more lasting power and do a better job of extracting dry herb altogether.

                                                               Portability

If you’re looking for something that you can reliably and easily take with you outside of the home, the Omura Series X is a solid option thanks to its compact size and minimal weight. It’s smooth and edge-less form factor ensures that it slips easily into your pocket for quick storage after you’re done with a session.

The Flowersticks are also lightweight and compact. Due to the easy or nonexistent setup required to start using Omura Series X, loading it up and disposing of the used up Flowerstick can be done before you’re even done counting 1-2-3.

                                                               Ease of Use

One of the most beginner-friendly devices we’ve ever reviewed, the Omura Series X is ideal for those who don’t want to bother learning the best temperature setting suited to their herb or flower of choice.

Simply charge up the device, insert a Flowerstick and the unit will light up letting you know it’s begun the heat up process. A vibration signals when it’s ready to vape (and when the 60 second session begins), and the 2nd vibration lets you know when the session is over after which you can simply pull out the Flowerstick and stow your device.

A small dip switch at the bottom lets you switch between the high and low temperature settings offered by the Omura Series X. This is great for users who don’t want to deal with learning the ins and outs of which button does what (something very typical with most vaporizers).

                                                                Discreetness

Omura in hand

The diminutive size of the Omura Series X makes it one of the more convenient devices to use outside whilst still going under the radar. The Flowersticks look like regular cigarettes (We can’t help you if you get judged based on that though) so setting up and using the Omura Series X will make you look like a regular IQOS-wielding Joe.

You won’t even have to worry about people thinking you’re a cannabis enthusiast given the unobtrusive design of the Omura Series X which is completely devoid of glass or metal. The unit also produces very little smell when in operation which is great for users who are concerned about their neighbors.

                                                                Overall Experience

While the Omura Series X managed to properly tick off a lot of boxes, it unfortunately forgot the entire point which is vaporization.

Regardless of you using the pre-filled flower sticks or using your own flower, vapor and flavor output on this thing is disappointing. It doesn’t really matter how good the design or the battery life is if it can’t vape properly for starters..

We definitely recommend saving your hard earned cash for something else such as the Zeus Arc GTS Hub which does a much better job when it comes not just to vapor output but overall flavor quality as well.
