PAX Era Review – Dawn of a new Era?

Updated: March 26, 2024

The PAX Era is an extremely tiny and discreet oil vaporizer. It uses special cartridges that may appear pricey at first glance, but the result is a system that couldn’t be easier to use. The performance of this inconspicuous device will likely surprise you.

Editor’s Note: For those looking for the PAX Era experience but want the flexibility of using their own liquids and oils we suggest checking out the Kandypens Rubi. The Rubi shares a similar shape and features to the Pax ERA but allows for users to fill the pods with their own choice of liquids and oils rather than having to continually buy pre-filled pods. Review: PAX Era Review

Pax Era Cartridge

How it Works

The PAX Era is exceedingly simple to use. It’s almost so easy that it doesn’t make sense. There are just two parts to the entire device, the base, and the cartridges. The base is just the battery along with the classic PAX light display. The cartridges are sold separately and slide easily into place on the top of the base. As soon as you have a cartridge in place, you are ready to vape at any time.

You can literally just take a draw and get instantaneous vapor. When you are done, you can slip it back in your pocket without turning it off or capping the top or worrying about anything at all. Just to reiterate, all you do is pop in a cartridge and take a draw whenever you feel like it. That’s what I call easy!

You’d think that this means there are no settings. Wrong! Let’s go over the temperature flexibility now.

The Era has full temperature control. Seriously.

There are four options built into the device, plus you can set your own using the app. To set the temperature, you just shake the device to engage the battery check mode.

The lights will display how much battery is left. While it is doing this, remove the cartridge. The lights will begin cycling to indicate the different temperature options. When it is showing the level you want, you put the cartridge back in. The whole process takes less than 10 seconds.

Using the app allows you to pick any temperature you want, down to a specific degree. Users that want to avoid the hassle of using the app to adjust the temperature to a specific degree usually tend to prefer devices like the Yocan Uni Pro.

Vapor Quality

To get vapor from this, you have to buy premade cartridges specially designed for the Era. I didn’t like this aspect at first, but I have to say that the cartridges I have tried are absolutely incredible. The flavour is almost unreal, especially if you use a relatively low temperature. Users who are interested in 510 thread cartridges for oil often prefer the Tronian Nutron.

It’s not like they just have a single good formula either. There are a ton of different varieties to choose between, and you can taste the specific flavour differences between them very clearly. I recommend checking out how they go about processing the plants they use into oils because they take it very seriously.

It’s not just flavour though. The size of the hits and the intensity is also very impressive, especially for such a small device. Between the different pods and the temperature options, there is something here for everyone.

The only downside is that it uses PG, the stuff used in e-cig liquid. I know some people prefer an all-natural approach to herbal concentrates, so you’ll have to do some research and make your own decisions on this front.

Manufacturing Quality

The manufacturing quality is excellent. I honestly can’t get over the size to performance ratio of this. It’s so tiny, yet it has pretty much everything that I could possibly ask of it.

It’s durable, highly effective, and attractive, plus it has full temperature control. You also get a one-year warranty when you buy one, which is pretty good considering the base only costs $20.

The battery inside is only 240mAh, but it gets a lot of life from this small capacity. Let’s go over this now. However, users who are moving throughout the day usually prefer units with larger batteries like offered by CCELL Palm.

With a typical concentrate pen, you want to see at least 600-750mAh to get good performance. Users looking for pens at this range usually tend to prefer devices like the Smok Micare. Like I just mentioned, this only has 240mAh. That may seem very disappointing after all the great things I told you about the Era, but what if I told you that the battery was still able to power this for over 100 draws!

In fact, PAX claims that you can get up to 200 puffs on a full charge. I doubt you will ever get that many in practice, but this should still last you through a whole day or more before you need to charge it again. A full charge only takes about 45 minutes in my experience.

Portability

Like the CCELL Silo, the portability is unmatched. You can carry this absolutely anywhere. Any pocket, any bag, it doesn’t matter. I cannot emphasize how convenient this is to take with you places.

Compared to the vaporizers I’m used to using, this is incredible. It even manages to make wax pens look a little bulky in comparison.

Ease of Use

Unlike the Linx Hermes 3 that has a small learning curve, the ease of use is also unmatched. The only thing required of you is taking a draw. You pull this out of your pocket, take a draw, and put it back. No waiting for it to heat up, no clicking buttons to turn it on.

Just taking a draw and enjoying extremely flavourful vapor. Literally anyone could use this and get fantastic results. There are no tricks to using it at all.

Discreetness

The discreetness, like the portability and ease of use, is about as good as you’ll find from any device such as the Oilax Cito.

The size is obviously nice. There really isn’t anything on the market that offers a smaller way to vape any type of herb, whether you are talking about dried material or extracts.

But on top of the size and ability to conceal it inside your hand, you also have to consider the fact that you can take a draw at any moment you like. From the time you reach into your pocket to the time you are putting it back, you’re talking about less than 10 seconds if need be. And the device would never need to be visible.

Pax Era Full KitOverall Experience

The PAX Era is an obvious winner.

I can’t think of anything that is smaller, more portable, easier to use, or more discreet than this. Then on top of all that, you get full temperature control and a pod system that delivers exceptional vapor.

If you live somewhere that gives you access to the pods, I definitely recommend picking one of these ups. It may not be something that you want to use all the time, but it’s definitely worth having for when you need something extra portable and discreet.

All I can say is that I’m very impressed.

If you were looking for a pen shaped wax device we highly recommend the Utillian 5 and if you are looking for a portable e-nail that has actually has precise temperature control and the bonus of having a herb attachment as well, we would encourage you to check out the Focusvape Tourist.
