How it Works

This unit is appealing because of its unique way of operating. It may be exactly what some people want, but not for others. Nevertheless, it works as promised. All you need is your device and a dab container. Follow these steps to start your session:

Step 1: Press the power button five times quickly to turn on the device.
Step 2: Adjust the voltage setting by pressing the power button twice.
Step 3: Take off the magnetic tip cover from the quartz tip and heat it up by pressing and holding the power button. 
Step 3.5: Alternatively, use the session mode by pressing the power button three times. This mode preheats the tip for 15 seconds and maintains the temperature for 30 seconds.
Step 4: When the tip is hot enough, dip it into your wax container and inhale from the mouthpiece. 
Step 5: Enjoy your session, and repeat the steps as needed. 

Vapor Quality

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus is not great if you care more about flavor and smoothness, and less about strength and density. It produces a lot of vapor because it heats up a large area of concentrate, especially when you dip the tip into a store-bought wax container.

It uses a quartz tip that heats up fast and directly turns the wax into vapor, which makes it very strong and concentrated. However, this also means the vapor can be very hot and dry, and some of the flavors and details of the wax can be lost or burned. If you are more interested in better tasting vapor, something like the Utillian 5 which uses a more controlled heating method which provides strong and flavorful hits consistently. 

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus gives powerful and dense vapor from your wax, but it’s not the best choice for people who want great flavor or are new to this. It can be too harsh and overwhelming for some people, and you need to experiment to find the right voltage and dipping technique for your wax.

Temperature Flexibility 

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus offers some temperature flexibility with its variable voltage feature. The device has three voltage settings that you can choose from, depending on your preference and the type of wax you are using. The voltage settings are indicated by the LED ring around the power button, which changes color as you press the button twice to cycle through the options. The voltage settings are:

-3.2V (Blue): Lowest setting, smoothest setting, best for flavorful hits.
-3.6V (Purple): Medium setting, balanced vapor quality, suitable for most types of wax, moderate clouds and ok flavor.
-4.1V (White): Highest setting, heavy-hitting vapor, harsher tasting, faster burning, reduced flavor and freshness.

The device doesn’t have temperature control or feedback, so you need to rely on your intuition and experience to figure out the best voltage and dipping time for your wax. The Seahorse can work with certain water pipes, which can cool down and filter the vapor, making it smoother and more enjoyable. However, using the device with a water pipe can be difficult and inconvenient. You have to hold the device upright and avoid bending the hose or spilling the water. You also need to be careful not to accidentally pull the wax into the water pipe by dipping the tip too deep or applying too much force.

Manufacturing Quality 

When it comes to how well the unit works and the materials used, like the glass vapor path and quartz tip, are good and do the job. Where I started to notice some issues was that without a water pipe, I couldn’t enjoy the higher settings due to the vapor being too harsh. The issue I have with this is that the water pipe’s adapter is made of silicone, which gives the vapor a slightly unpleasant taste.

While it’s not the worst manufacturing quality I’ve seen, it’s not the most reliable or high-performing option either. More common Wax Pens like the Gammatron have better battery capacities, materials, temperature options, and heating systems. They provide smoother and tastier vapor, putting the Seahorse in a tough position to compete.

All in all, the Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus has some drawbacks when it comes to its design. Its battery capacity is quite low and the plastic cap that goes over the quartz tip is very flimsy. When using the Seahorse you will have to wait till the tip is cold enough to the cap back on, or else you will risk melting it. 

Portability 

Honestly, when using the unit, it feels more like a home device. There are a few reasons why I came to this conclusion. First of all, as I’ve mentioned before, the cap that goes over the quartz tip is not resistant to heat. If you were to use the device while on the move and then put it in your pocket, there’s a good chance your cap will melt.

When it comes to the form factor, the Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus is small enough to fit comfortably in your hand. The problem is that due to its operation method, it’s very difficult to use while literally on the move.

Users that travel with the Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus will find themselves needing to stop, use the unit, wait for it to cool down a bit and then move on. Partly due to the fact that you will need to look for your wax container and put the device straight into the separate container. 

Using extra accessories is not something exclusive to the Seahorse but as an example, the Tronian Gammatron comes with its very own wax storage container so users don’t need to take extra things with them when vaping on the go.  

Discreetness

Discreetness is definitely not a quality that the Lookah seahorse can manage. Due to its particular Loading and operation method, it’s very hard to discreetly take a quick hit and put everything back together. As previously mentioned, this Wax Pen is best suited for at home use where you can take your time and organize your sessions carefully.

Also, since this unit gets quite hot, it’s better suited for the cheap, thick cartridges. This means that users will more than likely use higher temperatures and slightly burn the wax which will result in a harsh smell that is sure to catch more attention than clean, pure vapor.

Battery Life 

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus has a 650 mAh battery that can last for about 30 to 40 quick sessions, depending on the voltage and session duration. However, heavy users might find the battery life too short.

It has a USB-C charging port for fast and efficient recharging. It takes approximately one hour to fully charge, which is faster than most micro-USB devices. There’s also a battery indicator that changes the LED ring color to show the remaining battery power:

– Green: 100% to 60%
– Blue: 60% to 20%
– Red: 20% to 0%

When the battery level is below 10%, the device flashes the red light ten times to warn the user. After that, it automatically shuts off to prevent over-discharge.

Overall Experience

The Lookah Seahorse Pro Plus is an uncommon experience that some users will find great use in. With that said, its cool operation method comes with some difficult problems to tackle and Lookah hasn’t cracked the code yet. While the device does work, it may not be worth the drawbacks that come with its design. 

In general, users that search for Wax Pens want their device to be portable and functional. While the Seahorse is definitely compact, using it on the go is not a simple or quick ordeal. For example, using the seahorse outside automatically means that its users will need to take their wax container with them which may be annoying for some. Other Wax Pen manufacturers have started adding wax storage into the units like Tronian did with the Gammatron.
