Sticky Brick Jr. Review – Better than the Original?

Updated: October 6, 2023

The Sticky Brick Jr is a butane style vaporizer that offers on-demand convection draws at the flick of a torch. While it’s not the most convenient way to achieve vapor, butane and wooden vaporizers certainly have a niche in today’s vaporizer market. So let’s dive right in and see how the Sticky Brick Jr performs.

Review: Sticky Brick Jr

How it Works

The Sticky Brick Jr is magnetically held together in 3 parts, the lid, the mouthpiece and the chamber. First, remove the lid to access the Sticky Brick Jr in all its wooden glory.

Now snap the Sticky Brick Jr in half again to expose the heating chamber and place your desired amount of cannabis in the chamber.

The nice thing about the Brick Jr is that you can use a small amount of cannabis or a lot and receive pretty decent results either way.

Now snap the Sticky Brick Jr back together and you are ready to rock. Next take your butane lighter and direct the flame into the glass stem while drawing from the mouthpiece. There is a carb whole located on the side of the sticky brick jr which you can use to throttle the density of your vapor.

Temperature Flexibility

When it comes to the Sticky Brick Jr you are not really given any type of temperature flexibility. You can certainly attempt to throttle the temperature by changing the size of your flame and by moving the flame closer and further from the down stem.

But there is no perfect science to achieving optimal vapor with the Sticky Brick Jr, every hit can be an adventure.

Many users usually tend to look for units like the Zeus Arc GTS Hub that has 3 preset temperature controls.

Vapor Quality

Once you figure out your own technique the Sticky Brick Jr can chuck vapor with the best of them. In fact if you get the lighter and your draw technique in the right rhythm you can get clouds that will rival the Mighty.

However, the consistency of achieving these clouds can be a bit hit or miss, even if you swear you are replicating your technique perfectly. Sometimes you will be met with a ton of vapor, sometimes you will be met with nothing, and other times, if you are not careful, you can end up with a mouthful of smoke.

The Sticky Brick Jr can sometimes be frustrating but it can also be extremely rewarding when you exhale a nice big tasty cloud of vapor. It’s not going to be for everyone but for those up to the challenge, you will be rewarded for your efforts.

Manufacturing Quality

Aesthetically speaking, the Sticky Brick Jr is a gorgeous looking piece, its something we’d proudly have sitting on our coffee table as a conversation piece. We really do prefer the Stick Brick Jr to its big brother the Sticky Brick. The Jr is much more compact and has a lid that protects all the glass parts.

The magnets on the Sticky Brick Jr are very strong and keeps everything nice and tight and sealed. We were curious if we would see any loss of airflow due to a weak connection but that has not been the case. But do be careful, we did pinch our fingers on occasion as the magnets snapped into place.

Portability

The Sticky Brick Jr is roughly the size of the mighty when in “travel mode” with the lid on. For those with deep pockets or a bag, it should not be an issue to bring with you.

That being said, the need for a butane lighter and relatively unconventional nature of operation make it less than ideal for use outdoors. We found we had our best results from the Sticky Brick Jr. inside.

That does not mean its impossible to use outdoors, but simply a bit of wind can make the whole process of creating vapor with a butane torch more of a challenge.

Many users looking for something sleeker and ease things up usually tend to prefer units like the Utillian 722 that are easy to carry and use as well.

Ease of Use

Let’s be honest, the Sticky Brick Jr. has a fairly steep learning curve to it. We consider ourselves vaporizer aficionados and it took us several sessions to finally get a decent draw.

That being said, once we did get the technique down it was much easier to replicate over and over again and was a rewarding feeling. Not to mention that the results can be pretty impressive once you do nail the technique.

The Sticky Brick Jr. almost reminds me of 90’s video games, more difficult but more rewarding.

Users who are new to the vaping thing usually tend to prefer units like the LITL 1 that is low in price and little to no assistance is required to use it.

Discreetness

The Sticky Brick Jr when not in use and with the lid on is a fairly discreet device and can pass as a wood storage box or piece of wooden art.

However, once the lid is off you can throw discreetness out the window and once you start using it people are going to come to some weird conclusions of what you are doing.

This device is best kept in your own home or around like-minded individuals who you are looking to impress with your sweet hipsterish wooden vaporizer.

Users that are constantly in contact with people throughout the day and want a few quick ones while staying low key usually prefer units like the Firefly 2+ that can heat on demand with no heat up time.

The Sticky Brick Jr torch powered vaporizer is not going to be for everyone. It’s niche butane-based operation style has a high learning curve that can achieve some impressive results.

It is not a vaporizer you will just be able to pick up and vape with and will require some time and effort to learn the subtle nuances of how it works. If you are willing to put in the time the results will be worth it as it can achieve on-demand convection vapor.

But if you want something with no effort required you may want to check out the Utillian 722 or any of the other battery powered vaporizers.
