Yocan Kodo Review

How Yocan Kodo Works

How it Works

The Kodo is pretty simple to use, but you can follow these steps if it’s your first time:

Step 1: Turn the device on by pressing the button five times quickly.
Step 2: Gently screw the cartridge onto the device in a clockwise direction until it is snug.
Step 3: Switch between heating settings by triple-pressing the power button.
Step 4: To activate the preheat function, press the button twice quickly. You can cancel the preheat function by pressing the button once.
Step 5: To inhale the vapor, press and hold the button while drawing from the mouthpiece of the cartridge. Release the button when you are done.

The Kodo seems to be compatible with most universal 510 thread cartridges. I did however find that the bigger ones do not work. Make sure your cartridge fits correctly before heating it up.

Manufacturing Quality

The Yocan Kodo Box Mod is mostly made of plastic, which is okay considering its price. However, it doesn’t have a premium feel and may break easily if dropped or mishandled. The plastic also gets dirty quite quickly.

The only metal part is the 510 connection on the top, which is smooth and easy to screw and unscrew. But, the 510 connection isn’t very secure, so sometimes the cartridge falls off or wobbles when I vape.

One feature that the Yocan Kodo lacks is a draw flow sensor. This sensor, found in devices like the Utillian 50, allows for convenient draw-activated sessions. With the sensor, the device automatically starts heating to the selected voltage setting as soon as it detects inhalation.

But, with that said, the Yocan Kodo has both good features and flaws in its manufacturing quality, which is more than to be expected from this price point. While it has some useful functions, it also has weaknesses that impact its performance and durability. It’s up to you to decide what your priorities are.

Temperature Flexibility of Yocan Kodo

Temperature Flexibility

The Yocan Kodo is a small and simple device, but it still offers some power flexibility for different vaping preferences. The LED lights show you the battery level and the voltage setting. The device has three voltage options:

  • 2.5 Volts – 1 Green LED (Low)
  • 3.0 Volts – 2 Green LED (Medium)
  • 3.5 Volts – 3 Green LED (High)

The low voltage setting produces lighter and smoother vapor, while the high voltage setting produces denser and more intense vapor. The medium voltage setting is a balance between the two. You can change the voltage by pressing the button three times quickly.

However, if you prefer more flexible voltage settings, you can choose the new Yocan Kodo Pro, which allows you to adjust the voltage from 1.8V to 4.2V in 0.1V increments.

Yocan Kodo comes with short-circuit protection to make sure that you are not going to face any difficulties while using it. If your device thinks you’re having an issue with short-circuit, it will warn you by flashing 3 green lights 3 times. For low voltage warning, you will see 3 green lights flashing 10 times.

Portability

Portability is probably the best thing you can expect from most of Yocan’s products. Yocan Kodo is not the exception – the entire device is about 53*20*17.5mm. The device is so small that it is about two-thirds the size of a standard lighter, which makes it very easy to carry around and use anywhere. You can even compare it with a standard AA battery.

Due to its compact size, it can easily fit in your palm, pocket, or purse. To make it even more portable and easy to carry around, Yocan comes with a lanyard hole for extra portability – just like the Tronian Rhotron

When it comes to discreetness, you can use Kodo in public places without attracting too much attention. As you can hide it on your palm, it’s less noticeable than other bulky devices. It comes with a magnetic adapter that makes it easy to attach and detach the cartridge.

Battery Life of Yocan Kodo

Battery Life

Yocan Kodo comes with a built-in 400mAh battery that you can charge using its micro-USB port. One of the advantages of the Yocan Kodo is its fast charging speed, which allows the device to reach a full charge in just less than 30 minutes

This somewhat makes up for the lack of battery longevity, as the device may not be able to hold up to an entire day of heavy or rigorous use. However, it is perfect for those short one-off vaping sessions. For those of you who want longer sessions, you may want to try Zeus Ion, which comes with a 650 mAh battery, but it also has a higher price tag due to it being a premium vaporizer.

The Kodo does have a fast preheat function and a micro-USB port that allows vaping while charging, but these are not enough to compensate for its poor battery life.

Therefore, I think the battery life of the Yocan Kodo is mediocre at best, and it could be improved by using a larger battery capacity or even a USB-C to compensate for the frequent recharges.

Overall Experience

The Yocan Kodo is a tiny and discreet vape battery that can work with almost any 510-threaded cartridge. It has a few features that really stand out and can be found on some of the most popular units. The Kodo comes with a preheat function, and three voltage settings, similar to the Nutron. It is easy to use and control, and it can produce decent vapor quality. It also has a fast charging speed and a lanyard hole for extra portability, like the Rhotron.

The Yocan Kodo is not a bad device, but it is not a great one either. It is suitable for occasional or light users who want a small and discreet vape battery. For heavy or frequent users, there are definitely other 510 thread batteries out there, such as the Utillian 50. You can find a complete list of the best 510 thread batteries on our ranking page.
