Arizer Extreme Q Review 2022 – Still EQual to the Others?

Updated: November 7, 2023

Arizer vaporizers is a long-standing company from Canada with a stellar reputation. Famous for their devices like the Arizer Solo and Arizer ArGo, the Arizer EQ is their entry into the desktop vaporizer segment with a bargain price tag! How does it stack up in today’s market and does it still hang with the big guns? With a remote control, versatile bag and direct draw abilities, digital temperature control, adjustable fan speeds and more, it’s a feature-packed and powerful little device!

The Arizer EQ is a 1st generation vaporizer, it’s already outdated compared to its new release the XQ2, but since newer generations of vaporizers are making portable devices match the vapor output of stationary vaporizers, desktop vaporizers purchases have been going down. We recommend checking out the portable vaporizer section if you want something a bit more advanced technologically.

How to use

There are a couple of different ways to use the Extreme Q – with a whip or balloons. Whichever way you use it, loading the Arizer Extreme Q Cyclone bowl goes the same way. Use medium ground weed and load the bowl up with your desired amount of cannabis. ~0.3 grams works best from our testing.

Attach the balloon and start the fan to start filling it up. Once the balloon fills up, shut the device off and remove the bag. There is no valve to keep vapor from escaping from the bag once it’s filled, so using your finger to plug it or a makeshift solution is needed. Keep in mind you can purchase the Arizer Balloon Kit when your balloons need replacement.

On the other side, you can use the whip adaptor to directly draw from the device, or for extra fun simple turn the fan on put the adapter to your mouth, and let vapor pump into you without any extra effort needed! A fun gimmick for sure.

Temperature Flexibility

The Arizer EQ has complete digital temperature control similar to the Hybrid Volcano, allowing you to control the temperature from anywhere between 50° C – 260° C (122° F – 500° F).

This provides decent enough room to find your favorite setting to start vaporizing cannabis! We like 200° C as a good starting point for great flavor and good vapor production.

Even though some experiments show that vaporizing may be less harmful than smoking, it’s worth making an observation that desktop vaporizers provide bigger/harsher hits since they tend to reach higher temperatures. If that’s not what you’re looking for then we would recommend looking at more portable units which tend to cook comfortably at lower temperatures.

Something to mention, the Extreme Q is a 1st Generation Vaporizer, therefore meaning it is starting to become outdated when it comes to newer 2nd generation or even 3rd generation devices. You can learn more about the different generations by checking our what is a 3rd generation vaporizer article.

Vapor Quality

The Extreme Q produces good quality vapor for sure! Certainly, it’s not the best of the best and many other vapes outshine it. As the vapor path is with a silicone hose or a balloon, it’s not as pure as a complete glass pathway.

Regardless, the device still produces good flavor especially at lower temperature settings, however other units definitely produce better results.

Vapor production is solid, and the flavor is decent! Although compared to its newer version the XQ2, it simply lacks on finetuning on many levels.

Manufacturing Quality

Arizer has a long-standing reputation for making well-built, solid, and high-quality devices. The Extreme Q is no exception to this rule and the Arizer EQ is a very reliable device with many users reporting years and years of daily use without a hitch.

While not as fancy as a 3rd Generation vaporizer like the Zeus Arc GTS, it’s a space-age device with a remote which is cool enough for us! It certainly appears like a Sci-Fi film prop, and we’d be damned if it wasn’t built like one!  In all honesty, seeing healthy competition between top manufacturers is always welcome.

In the box is a healthy kit consisting of the device itself, remote control, 2 cyclone bowls, aromatherapy cup, two whip mouthpieces, glass stir tool, an Arizer Extreme Q whip, two Arizer Extreme Q balloons, two mouthpieces, spare screens, sample herbs, and user manual. A comprehensive and solid kit that will have you happy for a while!

Ease of Use

Not unlike the straightforward operation of simpler devices such as the Volcano Hybrid, it actually takes some trial and error to get the Arizer EQ performing as it should. Elbow packing the Arizer EQ is also a good idea if you’re looking to improve performance.

When having sessions with friends or strangers, filling balloons is the easiest way to share with others. Using the whip alongside the fan on setting 1 is also a fun party trick, and considering the size of the bowl, you can load up a very large amount of cannabis for those super sessions!

Cleaning is relatively simple similar to the Arizer V-Tower vaporizer. The silicone hose and herb balloons should be thrown out and replaced with fresh ones once they build up too much residue or start to taste funky.  The glass pieces can all be tossed in a jar of isopropyl alcohol for easy and seamless cleaning – just let it soak for 10 minutes and rinse!

Arizer EQ vaporizer Reach

Reach

Appearing like a Sci-Fi instrument on your table rather than a smoking device, the Arizer EQ will probably get the attention of your friends and that’s a good thing.

The Extreme Q is perfect for parties, effortlessly switch between whip and balloon setups to wow your guests. Personally, we like balloons better for party settings if that’s what you’re going for but it is worth it to mention that the air inside the balloons tends to get stale quite quickly.

Users that are looking for a device that can provide consistent vapor without the hassle of needing to carry around a big vaporizer tend to prefer units like the Utillian 722. The U722 provides good vapor quality and big hits while also being much more portable than a desktop unit.

Overall Experience

Even in 2021 the Arizer EQ still performs solid! The slight tweaks and changes to the glassware over the years have been welcome additions. It doesn’t quite perform as crazy as some units at MUCH higher price points, but for those looking for great value, the EQ is a powerhouse.

Thanks to the use of glass components, the vapor quality is good and it hits well, and especially for large bowls for group sessions and parties, it does great!

If you’re looking for a more durable alternative to the Cyclone bowl that comes with the Extreme Q, the Arizer Tuff Bowl is a great option and definitely worth checking out. Desktop vaporizing not your thing and feel like something more portable is up your alley?

Desktop vaporizers don’t come out as often as portable units do and so there hasn’t been much recent competition for the Arizer Extreme Q, save for the Volcano Hybrid which is better in practically every aspect except the price which is multitudes more! That being said, if price is the main aspect you take into consideration, it may be useful to know that vaporizers can help you save money as opposed to something like smoking.

Also, in case you’re looking for a less expensive but more portable unit, make sure to check out the cannabis vaporizer page, where you’ll find the best device for your daily use which you can care wherever you want.
