Flowermate CAP PRO Review – Better than the Dash?
We had mixed feeling about the original Flowermate CAP and G Pen Dash, and were surprised to find out that Flowermate quietly launched an upgraded version of their bite-sized budget herb vape. A good chunk bigger and but is it any better? We find out if its any good in our Flowermate CAP PRO review.
Review: Flowermate CAP PRO
How it Works
Load up the chamber full with finely ground herb. Though you can use whole buds and will get okay results, youll get far better clouds and vapor when using ground up herb.
Adjust the temperature to your desired setting and wait for it to warm up. After approx. 30 seconds itll vibrate, letting you know when it’s ready to hit. With that in mind, the herb benefits from more heat-soaking and waiting long after the first buzz will give a more satisfying first hit.
Inhale gently for ~5 seconds directly to the lungs and enjoy! Using the Flowermate CAP PRO is fairly simple and theyve tailored the experience to be straightforward for beginners.
Temperature Flexibility
Flowermate integrated complete temperature control on this unit, ranging from 40 to 230°C, which translates to 104 – 446°F. This is a very wide range to work with and grants you plenty of versatility in terms of the experience you get.
Temperatures under 150°C wont vaporize much and will only give you some flavor, however, these low temperatures are great if youd like to vaporize alternative herbs such as damiana, lavender, sage, or other.
This level of temperature control is great to see in a unit at such an affordable price. For everyday vaping we prefer ~185°C for a nice mix between vapor density and flavor.
Vapor Quality
The original CAP/G Pen Dash really fell short with its vapor quality which is not totally surprising considering the size and cost of the unit. Not to mention a small bowl.
The new CAP PRO ups the ante with a bowl that can contain ~0.25-0.3 grams of flower. This is very significant and makes this new vape more in line with standard units like the Zeus Arc GTS Hub.
While it uses mostly/entirely conduction heating tech, the glass-coated stainless steel heating chamber does a great job at imparting no extra flavor and giving a pure hit.
The cooling and smoothness are surprisingly effective considering how stout the unit is, however, we do find ourselves preferring something with a long glass mouthpiece like the Utillian 620 for better cooling.
Unforgettably its not too easy to rig the CAP Pro to a water pipe, which is where we feel this unit would really shine. If we could make one improvement to its design, it would be this.
Manufacturing Quality
Flowermate makes fairly reliable and sturdy units. We appreciate the simplicity and straightforwardness of their vapes. While we have yet to see the long term reliability of the new CAP PRO, we reckon itll last as long as their previous units.
The anodized aluminum body feels good in the hands, doesnt display fingerprints, and looks neat. The OLED display and easy loading shape of the bowl are well appreciated and the magnetic mouthpiece is snappy and well implemented.
An isolated air path to top things off results in a reliable and thought through unit.
Battery Life
At 2000mAh its not the biggest cell, however, we figure its about all they could cram into a body this size. But considering something as small as the Zeus Arc S Hub has 3500mah, we were hoping for a bit more.
While the original CAP could yield up to 6 sessions per charge at most, this unit achieves ~12 sessions per charge.
This is more than enough for a full day of use and will be fine for most use cases.
The battery is not removable however and uses MicroUSB to charge. Were definitely more fond of USB-C as it’s now the modern standard, and we hope more budget portable vaporizers start including that in their design.
Fine enough but not anything particularly special, its about what we expected out of a device like this.
Portability
The CAP PRO is about twice the size as the original CAP which is one of the smaller dry herb vapes out there, along with the Litl 1, which is WAY cheaper. Though it’s a good chunk bigger, it’s still very pocketable and portable.
Weighing only 90 grams, it wont make your pockets uncomfortably heavy either. This is great for skiing, hiking, a night out in the city, or whatever else you can think of.
Ease of Use
Flowermate devices have always been simple and effective.
Why fix a formula which isnt broken? Provided youve loaded the vape properly and have it set to a good temperature, we reckon youll have no issues using it.
Cleaning the Flowermate CAP Pro is fairly simple – just ensure you brush out the bowl and mouthpiece screen every couple of sessions or so to keep things tidy. Every dozen sessions or so, disassemble the mouthpiece and soak it in isopropyl alcohol to fully clean the vapor path.
Discreetness
Matter black and not so large, this device will hide away in the pockets easily and appear either like a power bank or e-juice vape to the unassuming eye.
Just keep in mind the smell the unit produces when its heated up with herb in the bowl – it doesnt smell as much as smoking though it definitely puts out a noticeable aroma.
Overall Experience
What can we say – while it’s far from being the best vape, its an alright unit which is simple to use!
We wish we could mate it to a water pipe and that it had USB-C charging, and the vapor quality could be improved.
Check out the Utillian 421 for another great budget dry herb vape which has a very large chamber, a glass mouthpiece producing better vapor, along a digital display and airflow control.
