How it Works

Using the Puffco Plus Dab Pen is very simple, which is one of the reasons why it’s so popular.

To use the New Puffco Plus, follow these easy steps.

Step 1: Press the power button five times quickly to turn the Puffco Plus on.
Step 2: Unscrew the mouthpiece and extend the dart by pressing down on the silicone tip.
Step 3: Load a small amount of concentrate into the chamber using the dart.
Step 4: Screw the mouthpiece back on firmly and twist it.
Step 5: Press the power button four times quickly to cycle through the temperature settings.
Step 6: Hold the power button down and inhale gently to produce vapor. The device will shut off automatically after eight seconds of use.
Or…
Step 6.5: Press the power button twice quickly to activate the Sesh Mode. This will initiate a 12-second heat cycle that you can enjoy without holding the button down.

When loading the Puffco Plus with Wax, remember not to go over the little side holes since this may cause spillage during the heating process. Using the tool is a great way to make sure you don’t spill any wax. It feels pretty solid, like the Zirconia tool found on the Gammatron, which doesn’t extend like the Plus does. Also, a quick tip you will find in the manual is that in sesh mode, let your heating chamber heat up for a few seconds before starting your inhale for the best results.

Vapor Quality

The Puffco Plus New is known for its ability to provide large clouds of vapor due to its higher temperature settings. However, this high temperature can result in vapor that is not as flavorful compared to other devices. The coil-less ceramic bowl evenly heats the concentrate, but the intense heat may sacrifice some of the delicate flavors and aromas.

It’s important to note that the Puffco Plus New does not burn or combust the material, preserving its potency. I believe Puffco has even said that this unit is somewhat like a portable E nail due to its huge temperature range, I don’t think it really compares since E Nails and E Rigs tend to provide much stronger sessions. In all honesty, I would compare this unit to another Wax Pen like the Utillian 5 which also produces big clouds but at lower temps can also give you flavorful vapor.

Overall, the Puffco Plus is meant to hit hard, and it definitely gets that job done. Personally, when using this unit, I opt for the sesh mode but let the unit heat up for a few seconds before inhaling on the mouthpiece. I find that this operation method provides the best results.

Manufacturing Quality

The Puffco Plus New is very well built when compared to other Wax Pens because it is made with high-quality materials and looks really nice. It is durable and won’t get smudged by fingerprints. The pen has a special grip that keeps your fingers cool when it gets hot. It feels solid and comfortable to hold, and it weighs only 0.2 lbs.

Some units might be able to compete with the Puffco Plus, like the Gammatron, which comes with its very own wax storage container, but overall, in general terms, the Puffco Plus is one of the most solidly built units on the market.

For those who appreciate the solid build of the Puffco Plus, the Puffco Proxy offers a similar level of durability in an e-rig format. Its robust construction and intuitive single-button interface provide a seamless transition for users looking to expand their vaping arsenal with a reliable and stylish e-rig option.

The New Puffco Plus is really good, but the charger could be better. It uses an old-style USB plug that is not very convenient. Many other pens use a newer USB-C connection that is more flexible and charges faster. Also, you have to take apart the pen and screw the battery into the charger, which takes time and is slightly annoying.

Temperature Flexibility

The Puffco Plus New has three temperature settings that you can choose from:

Blue – Low ~ 580°F/304°C
Green – Medium ~ 650°F/343°C
White – High ~ 720°F/382°C

These temperature settings are designed to provide different vapor experiences depending on your preference and the type of concentrate you use. The low setting is ideal for smooth and flavorful vapor, while the high setting is ideal for thick and potent vapor. The medium setting is a balance between the two.

The Puffco Plus New has decent temperature flexibility, but it is not the best on the market. It’s definitely a range that is much higher than most other wax pens. This will definitely produce bigger clouds, but it may be harder to produce flavorful vapor.

Portability

The New Puffco Plus is pretty small but very stylish and can be easily carried in a pocket or purse. It measures 12.7 cm long and 1.27 cm wide, with a smooth and fingerprint-resistant coating that gives it a high-quality appearance.

The Puffco Plus New has some features that make it easy to take with you. Its built-in tool helps you load the chamber without needing any extra tools. While this is definitely a good thing, it only really helps when it comes to convenience, it doesn’t really make the unit more portable since it’s not recommended that you transport the Puffco Plus with Wax inside the chamber. There is also a silicone grip that stops your fingers from getting too hot when the chamber heats up, which I think is a really nice touch.

Additionally, the Puffco Plus New is compatible with 510 carts, which gives you more options and flexibility when using it. I would say that the Plus is more portable when using the cartridges than it is when using Wax. While the New Puffco Plus is portable, it may not be suitable for everyone. It has a small chamber that can only hold a small amount of concentrate, so you may need to reload it pretty often.

Battery Life

The Puffco Plus New has a battery capacity of 520 mAh, which is the same as the previous Puffco Plus. This is not very impressive, considering that many other wax pens on the market have much larger batteries, such as the Utillian 5, which has a 1500 mAh battery.

The Puffco Plus New battery can last for about 6 to 9 sessions on a single charge, depending on the heat setting and the duration of the session. This is enough for moderate users but may not be enough for heavy users who need more sessions or longer sessions. The Sesh Mode I mentioned earlier also consumes a little more power so if that’s your go to, you might find yourself charging your unit more frequently.

We’ve slightly discussed the older micro-USB charger, which is not very convenient or compatible with modern devices. This may have you taking its charger with you specifically only for the Puffco Plus since almost no other modern technology uses these types of connections any more.

All in all, the Puffco Plus New battery has a decent battery, but it could definetly be improved. It has the same battery capacity as the previous Puffco Plus, which makes it slightly more suitable for home use or, at the very least, very quick on-the-go sessions.

Ease of Use

The New Plus has just one button that does everything, like turning it on and off or changing the temperature. It also has an LED display that shows the battery level and heat setting, making the whole operation process much simpler.

What’s special about the Puffco Plus New is its built-in loading tool called the Dart. This tool makes it easy to load the chamber without making a mess. You use the Dart to scoop up some concentrate and put it in the ceramic chamber. The Dart also acts as a cap to improve the flavor and vapor. I mentioned it before, but what’s really cool about the tool is that it’s somewhat retractable. You can press on the small silicone tip while the mouthpiece is detached from its base to extend the tool a bit more.

Whether you’re new to dab pens or have experience, the New Puffco Plus is a good choice. It’s easy to use with its loading tool and one-button operation. It looks sleek and doesn’t leave fingerprints, making it discreet and elegant. If you want a simple and enjoyable wax pen, give the Puffco Plus New a try.

Overall Experience

The New Puffco Plus is pretty good overall, it’s nothing too fancy compared to the older version, although the small changes to its design are very nice to look at. I would consider this release a minor update as opposed to a complete makeover. Updates are not a rare thing these days amongst Wax Pens, but I wanted to see something like an update to the battery level or at least the charging speed. Similar to the Utillian 5, which has gone through many updates.

The New Puffco Plus is not flawless by any means since it may not suit users who need a larger chamber or a more durable battery. The chamber can only hold a small amount of concentrate, which means frequent reloading. Moreover, the device is quite expensive compared to other dab pens on the market, which may deter some budget-conscious buyers.

Speaking of which, most of the top Wax Pens are in the same price range, but they all provide a specific feature or functionality that makes them stand out. The Puffco Plus seems like it’s more of a well-rounded unit that thrives off of its well-built mechanisms.

With all of that said, it’s still a very well-built unit that provides good results. The update itself might be a little lackluster, but that may just be due to the fact that the original unit was already good. The New Puffco Plus still stands as a great choice for users who value quality, and elegance in their dab pen. It is also more discreet and portable than most dab pens, thanks to its slim and sleek design.
