Puffco Peak Pro Review – Better than the Original?

Updated: April 23, 2024

Well, after 3 years of tinkering and experiment with literally every single part, it seems, Puffco products have kicked down the door with the all new Puffco Peak Pro and we’ve finally had a chance to play with it and put together our Puffco Peak Pro Review.

At first glance, it looks much the same, but there are a bunch of differences that I’m super excited to dive into. There are aesthetic changes, internal changes, the whole thing is essentially brand new. Will the Puffco Peak Pro it hold up to original? Let’s find out.

If this is your first experience with concentrates, make sure to check our primer so you’re arent left in the dark whe it comes to what know before buying a dab pen. Also if this is your first e-rig, be sure to check out our best electric dab rig ranking to see our top choices.

Editors Note: Puffco has recently launched a new version of this E Rig, the New Puffco Peak Pro.

How it Works – Using the Puffco Peak Pro

As with any device, we highly recommend charging the Puffco Peak Pro fully before your first use. Next, drop your concentrate into the atomizer. Press and hold the power button to turn the device on. Press the power button once to switch between the Puffco Peak Pro’s temperature settings. The Peak Pro will automatically heat up and will vibrate when it reaches temperature. Once it does, inhale and enjoy.

Now, let’s quickly talk about the app. There are a ton of features in the new app, including the ability to set dozens of custom temperature settings including custom colors, which is pretty awesome. It also has a live readout of the current temperature as well as how many sessions you have completed today.

I also was able to find a workaround for Apple’s notorious need to baby every single iPhone customer with their vaporizing app ban. Puffco has this workaround on their website here – really happy about that, because the app has a ton of cool features.

Temperature Flexibility – New Device, New App

The Puffco Peak Pro has four built-in temperature settings. Blue is low at 254 degrees Celsius or 492 Fahrenheit, Green is medium at 266 degrees Celsius or 510 degrees Fahrenheit, Red is high at 277 Celsius or 530 Fahrenheit, and White is “Peak” at 285 Celsius or 545 degrees Fahrenheit.

These temperatures span a good range, but the Peak Pro app also allows you to customize each one of these settings to the temperatures of your choice, which no one could possibly complain about.

Vapor Quality – How hard does it hit?

The vapor quality of the Puffco Peak Pro is great. The atomizer can handle more concentrate than the Peak, as the bowl is 40% larger.

The original Peak had a problem with large loads, but the Pro has no trouble at all with the new atomizer. The carb cap has directional airflow, meaning the vapor is more disturbed and it results in no hot spots, and an even distribution of heat.

As far as e-rigs go, the Peak is definitely still in the top category. The vapor at lower temperatures is nice, flavorful, and potent. Vaping with the max temp of the Puffco Peak Pro does get a little harsh, but the water filtration offsets this and results in some potent, relatively tasty vapor. Personally, as I’ve fully admitted multiple times, I’m a bit of a baby when it comes to e-rigs, so I only go as high as red, though I definitely see the appeal of the Peak setting.

Users looking for something a little more low key that delivers the same face-melting feeling tend to prefer the Utillian 5 (V3) and it’s glorious bubbler attachment.

Manufacturing Quality – Is the Puffco Peak Pro well made?

The Peak was a great device when it first came out, but the 3 years since have seen some strides in the e-rig world. The Puffco Peak Pro has addressed all of the shortcomings of the OG Peak and delivered a high quality product that just might be worth the astronomical price tag.

The matte finish looks slicker and doesn’t hold onto fingerprints, which is excellent. The glass is more tapered and slightly longer which enables it to hold more water than its predecessor and not splash that water back into your mouth – a huge plus. AND they’ve made it backward compatible with the original Peak glass – so don’t fear if you bought a cool custom glass piece for your original Peak.

The atomizer, as I mentioned before, is 40% larger and much more capable of handling a bigger load. And the “oculus carb cap” allows you to watch your vapor swirl around the atomizer before you inhale, a nice touch.

For anyone looking for a similar build quality at a much lower price, I would recommend checking out The Core.

Battery Life – How long does it last?

The Peak Pro should last you about 30 sessions before needing a recharge. In practice, I was able to get between 25 and 30, which is not bad at all. Puffco has addressed the main complaint with the original Peak, the micro USB charging.

The Puffco Peak Pro has USB C charging that will recharge your device in 2 hours, and an awesome dock that your Peak Pro can sit on to recharge. It’s another hundred or so dollars, or like your firstborn or whatever, but it looks really cool.

It holds two full Puffco Peak Pro charges when plugged into the device, or one if you go the wireless charging route.

Portability – Is the Puffco Peak Pro portable?

The Puffco Peak Pro is perfectly portable. Okay fine, not perfectly, but the alliteration felt nice. It is certainly as portable as any other e-rig, I just fundamentally have an issue with hitting any e-rig or bong in public for what I think are obvious reasons.

However, taking it from place to place is a non-issue as the Puffco Peak Pro’s carrying case has also been modified for the better. There are magnets on it that enable you to snap it open or closed, and it feels much better than the original Peak’s case.

For users that want to use an extremely portable device that can work on any glass rig you own, check out the G Pen Connect.

Ease of Use – Getting to know the Peak Pro

The Puffco Peak Pro is easy to use, with a press and hold to turn it on and a single press to switch between temperature settings. The app makes things simultaneously more complicated and simpler – it’s easy enough to use, but I feel like I won’t be using it every time I use the device.

The biggest change in terms of ease of use is the button on the device has been changed to be… drum roll please… an actual button, instead of a raised bump kinda thing that was a pain in the ass to locate.

Discreetness – Standing out from the crowd

The Puffco Peak Pro is as discreet as any other e-rig, which is to say, not very. However, in the app, you can go into stealth mode, which dims the lights on the device in case you want to hit the device while you hide in a bush waiting to scare the crap out of your neighbors.

Understand why it exists and can see how people would use it, however, I personally can’t see much use for this feature.

Puffco Peak Pro full kitOverall Experience

The Puffco Peak Pro is an excellent stride forward in the world of e-rigs. They have made changes to almost every aspect of the device, all for the better, and it is hard to deny that the Pro sits in the top tier of e-rigs. Between the USB-c charging, new fancy app, the new carb cap, and general sex appeal of the matte finish, there’s a lot to like.

The rather large and obvious downside is the price tag on this piece of technology, as it will run you upwards of $400 USD. But, if you’re willing to shell out the dollars, I would say it is certainly worth it, especially for those who have access to higher-quality material when vaporizing cannabis. Those looking for something cheaper should check out The Core.
