Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 – Waxy Brother Boxing Battle

Updated: October 6, 2023

Utillian launched the Utillian 5 (V3) in 2019 and it has risen to become one of the best wax pens on the market. In 2021, they’re back in the wax game and have released the Utillian 2, a budget conscious option for the extract consumer. There is a lot to love about both of these units, so we thought we’d compare and contrast the two and figure out exactly where you should spend your hard-earned cash. Check out our comparison below!

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 Review

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 mouth pieceVapor Quality – Can the Utillian 2 hold up?

The Utillian 2 can produce some tasty hits on the lower two settings. That dual quartz coil will pull the flavor out of your wax well. We were surprised with the vapor quality of such a budget device.

It’s no slouch in the cloud production department either – it doesn’t rip like an e-rig, but it certainly produces more vapor than you expect.

The Utillian 5, however, can produce some seriously huge clouds that rival the e-rigs we have reviewed – especially on those two higher settings, no matter which coil you’re using.

It can be seriously face-melting, but dial it down a notch to the lower two settings and you’ll be impressed with how clearly the flavors of your favourite concentrate come out. The icing on the cake is the airflow control on the device as well, which allows users to control how much vapor they are inhaling.

On that note, the triple titanium coils are designed for larger loads of wax, and the dual twisted kanthal is particularly flavorful.

It is worth noting that both coils have black ceramic rods, which are far better at wicking and absorb more of your concentrate so it doesn’t fall off and under the coils.

The Utillian 5 takes this category.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 power controlTemperature Flexibility – Do they have different voltage settings?

Both Utillian wax pens have the same four temperature settings, 2.2, 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 Volts. Because of the Utillian 5’s bigger battery, it will deliver more power even through the same voltage settings.

For both units, the lower two settings will deliver better flavor for those out there who are into a tasty hit. The higher two voltage settings will deliver some face melting vapor – again, especially on the Utillian 5.

But that being said, the voltage settings aren’t different from each other, so we’re going to have to call this one a tie.

Remember you can always find a replacement for the Utillian 5 wax atomizer here.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 front displayManufacturing Quality – Does the Utillian 5 outshine the 2?

Both units are well built, as we’ve said time and time again, Utillian puts a lot of thought into their engineering and design. Both units have a sturdy stainless steel shell. The Utillian 5 has a smooth finish and the quality is top class, as you can feel when you pick it up.

Not to be outdone, The Utillian 2 – in it’s price category, of course – is built well and comes with a decent amount of kit. Most wax pens in the same price category have some sort of plastic, but Utillian shirks this stereotype and delivers a quality build with no plastic parts.

The Utillian 5 is all about delivering good vapor, with that airflow control we touched on before, those black ceramic rods inside the coils, which is an excellent touch, as it results in more vapor and less wasted wax.

That coupled with the big battery in the Utillian 5 makes it outshine the majority of the wax pen marketplace.

For an extra couple bucks, you can pick up the Utillian 5 bubbler, which allows you to rip extra hard and filter that tasty vapor through water.

This category goes to the Utillian 5.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 usb slotBattery Life – Which one has the bigger battery?

Most wax pens on the marketplace have a 650-800mah battery. The Utillian 2 has a 650mah one – average size, but for the price definitely something worth noting.

The Utillian 5 blows these averages out of the water, almost rivalling some of the E-Rigs on the marketplace with a huge 1500mah battery. It should last most users at least a few days of powerful hits off of a single charge, and if you’re a casual user you’re looking at a week to two weeks.

Don’t get me wrong, the Utillian 2’s battery gets the job done for a casual night out, but if you’re looking for something to last you a couple days for a camping trip, the Utillian 5 will certainly not disappoint.

Because of this, the Utillian 5 wins this one.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 in handPortability – Which one should you take on the go?

The Utillian 5 is slightly larger than most wax pens on  the marketplace. That being said, it can still fit in any pocket easily, and that sturdy shell prevents bumps and scrapes from marring your device.

The Utillian 2 is among the smallest in the game, and comes with that sleek travel case that makes it a perfectly portable pen. Even in the case, it takes up less space than your average phone, and is a great option for a night out.

What can’t be discounted here is that battery life I just touched on. Not having to charge your unit for a couple days can be a very good thing, especially when travelling.

Because of these factors, this one’s a tie.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 in useEase of Use – Is the Utillian 2 easier to use?

Both units are super easy to use, as this is one of the things Utillian is known for – 90 percent of their units have one button operation – perfect for any beginner to the wax world.

Both units feature an easy to remove mouthpiece, although the Utillian 2’s is magnetic while the Utillian 5 has o-rings.

Loading the Utillian 5 is a bit easier now however thanks to the freshly updated atomizer that now integrates a loading tool and splashguard into the assembly itself.

All of that being said, connoisseurs won’t shy away from the Utillian 5, as you can take the vapor to new heights once you get your technique down – and figure out which airflow setting suits you.

Cleaning is simple as well as you only have to worry about the bucket. With the Utillian 5, it should stay relatively clean for at least a month before needing a clean, due to those black ceramic rods. As per usual, we always recommend that you clean your wax pen right after a session to strike while the bucket is hot and leave less of a mess for later.

We’re going to have to give the win to the Utillian 5 due its much significantly easier loading process.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 in handDiscreetness – Which one is stealthier?

Both units are fairly low-key, as we touched on before in portability. That being said, the Utillian 5, even on the lowest setting, still produces a good amount of vapor.

The 2, on the other hand, can tone your hits down to a level that wouldn’t be too eye-catching when you’re out and about.

Because of this, the Utillian 2 wins this one.

Utillian 2 vs Utillian 5 winnerSHOWDOWN – No Contest

Both of these wax pens have great things going for them – it’s clear Utillian has given a lot of thought into both of their units.

But they’re not really in the same category. The Utillian 2 is a great option for budget conscious wax connoisseurs, and the Utillian 5 is one of the best wax pens in the business – rivaling some of the more expensive E-Rigs on the marketplace.

If you have a couple extra bucks to drop, and you love face melting, cloud milking rips, you won’t be disappointed with the Utillian 5 (V3). If you’re looking for a rig-like experience when on the go, make sure you pick up the Utillian 5 water filter as well!
