X-Max Qomo Review – Teeniest dab rig or weird looking wax pen?
With new e-rigs coming out so frequently, some innovation is nice to see! The X-Max Qomo is quite petite and aimed towards those who want the cheapest available option.
While this device is labeled as an E-Rig it’s more like a wax pen. Both the atomizer and bubbler are just too small to be really able to output like an e-rig. That being said, if your looking for a well-performing unit at a similar price make sure to check out the Best Wax pens and if you have a bit more cash to spend, check our Top E-rigs ranking pages to get the most out of your wax, as sometimes the cheapest is not the best, especially if your wax is of higher quality.
Review: X-Max Qomo Review
How to use
You can either pre-heat the XMAX Qomo atomizer or leave it cold to choose which style of dab experience you want. Either way, youll want to load a rice-grain sized amount of material onto the dab tool built into the carb cap.
Click the button twice to cycle between the three temperature settings and then click the unit once to initiate the heating cycle. Itll power up for 20 seconds which allows you to share it with a friend.
Temperature Flexibility
You do only get three temperature settings to play with which is one too few for our liking.
While itll certainly do the trick and the temperature settings are well-chosen, wed prefer to have complete control so we can get the ideal experience with our selected material.
4 settings, like is found on the Core Electric Dab Rig wouldve been fine and while the three different settings work, we find thats one of the weak points on this cheaper unit.
Vapor Quality
Right away were met with a ceramic atomizer which we can tell you isnt our favorite. Its a big step up over coils but any seasoned dab enthusiast will tell you right away that quartz – like on the Core E-rig, is much superior. Its easier to clean, has better flavor, and more thermal properties.
Those temperatures are chosen fairly well but the flavor and hit size are just not the best. Something like the Focus V Carta is much more sophisticated although comes at a higher price.
Manufacturing Quality
X-Max has put out a handful of decent devices with okay reliability behind them, and the Qomo was clearly designed to be an extremely cheap device. The carb cap with the built-in dab tool is ok, the body feels awkward, but the 18mm glass bubbler can be swapped out for another 18mm piece (with a male 18mm adapter) – nice seeing as you can put your own hydro tube on there.
The unit as a whole feels ok at vaporizing cannabis. While its nothing exceedingly special, you dont feel cheated out by cheap plastics or silly decals. Just don’t expect it to feel as premium as an actual E-Rig like the Focus V Carta 2.
Battery Life
The 1350mAh cell actually beats out the G Pen Roam in terms of capacity though it is essentially the same in all practical applications. Depending on your usage habits, you can expect around 10-20 sessions per full charge.
Did somebody say USB-C? Yes! The Qomo has USB-C which is good, but seeing as thats the new standard and the way of the future, it’s noting special.
For all intents and purposes, the battery life is decent and while its not a removable cell and doesnt have insane battery life, itll last through a party or backyard session.
Portability
Given how small it is, were a bit sad that the bubbler isnt spill-proof like found extra on the Utillian 5. Youll have to empty out the water if you want to store it away securely and that glass is, unfortunately, a bit prone to drops and falls.
Still, itll fit in a large jacket pocket and as long as you dont mind topping it off with water occasionally. We do recommend getting a carrying case for it however, as the glass has the potential to break when stored in the pocket.
Ease of Use
Its an easy to load device, after youve used it a couple of times, youll have basically mastered it. Just makes sure not to overfill the water.
Cleaning is a bit of a pain and those ceramic atomizers like to stain over time – something that quartz wont do. We recommend using isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated dab rig cleaner after a few sessions to keep it all neat and tidy. Use iso to clean out that dab tool/carb cap and water bubbler while youre at it. Check out our step-to-step guide on how to clean your device for an in-depth tutorial.
Discreetness
Yes its small, but youll definitely get some looks if you use it in public.
You wont be able to hide it int he pocket and while its not as crazy as a torch and banger setup, its not exactly a hit it outside a cafe device – unless youre comfortable with that.
Well, in case you’re not satisfied with the size and playing with water all the time, consider the vape pens. They are super lightweight and user-friendly. Thanks to that, a great, hustle-less vaping experience is guaranteed, so don’t miss a chance to have a look at this device category.
Overall Experience
The Qomo simply does not perform as an E-rig should. A quartz atomizer would likely bring the Qomo up a level but its size just doesn’t allow it to have the same performance.
As it sits, its an extremely budget e-rig option with some okay quality of life features. It wont be beating out the Core E-Rig anytime soon.
While theres room for improvement in terms of atomizer and temperature selection options, its ok being that it’s such a cheap option, but you won’t get the same sessions as you would with a better unit like the Carta 2.
