You Should Buy the Crossing Core XL If…

You want a well-designed E Rig that can rival more premium E Rigs at a mid-range price. The Core XL is the upgraded version of the well-known Core 2.1 with a larger chamber. This version includes a joystick that helps direct airflow for more even vaporization of your waxes. Its main appeal comes from its larger 3D chamber and an E Rig that packs many features found in more expensive electric dab rigs at a lower price.

Prominent Features

Crossing built the Core XL to bring a larger chamber and precision control to the e-rig format. But that's not the only thing that has been adjusted from the original Core models.

The joystick carb cap is the centerpiece of that added control. Tilting the joystick directs incoming air exactly where you want it inside the bowl, letting you push the dab across the heated surface.

Sitting just underneath that cap is the XL 3D ceramic atomizer. It heats your concentrate from the side walls and the bottom at the same time. This all-around heating is what allows the larger bowl to handle bigger loads efficiently without pooling your concentrate.

To shape your vapor, the included Grenade glass bubbler adds water filtration to every session. This cools the vapor, making even the upper, heavy-hitting heat settings far smoother and easier to draw from than they would be on a dry setup. The device manages this through six color-coded heat settings and an 80-second session mode to keep things simple.

How To Use The Crossing Core XL

The Crossing Core XL delivers great performance while keeping the process relatively simple.

Here is a more in-depth step-by-step guide:

  • Remove the Grenade bubbler from the base and fill it from the top with water to the halfway point.
  • Remove the joystick carb cap and load a rice-grain-sized dab into the center of the chamber.
  • Press the main button 5 times to turn the unit on.
  • You can set the temperature by triple-pressing the button to cycle through the 6 settings.
  • Double-press the button quickly to activate the auto session mode.
  • Enjoy your session for 80 seconds, or press the button once to stop heating.

Pro Tips:

  • Use small, deliberate movements with the joystick. Tilting it toward any concentrate pooled on one side of the bowl directs airflow there and pushes it back onto the heated surface.
  • 4mm terp pearls pair well with the joystick. The directed airflow keeps them spinning, which spreads the concentrate across the bowl for more even vaporization.
  • Using a heated dab tool such as a Hot Wax Axe can make the loading process much easier.

Vapor Quality

Vapor quality on the Crossing Core 2.0 XL is excellent for its price, and it starts with what the vapor actually touches. Your wax sits in a polished ceramic bowl, and the vapor path runs exclusively through stainless steel, anodized aluminum, and glass. Ceramic and glass are inert and don't add their own taste when heated, keeping your concentrate's flavor pure.

The Core XL atomizer heats by conduction from both the bottom and the sidewalls of the bowl. Because the walls are heated too, concentrate that spreads outward stays on a hot surface and allows the concentrate to find a hot surface to vaporize on instead of pooling and burning. This is essentially what makes all wall atomizers produce better vapor overall.

The joystick carb cap adds another layer to that vapor quality. Moving the joystick around directs the incoming airflow across the bowl, guiding air over any concentrate that hasn't vaporized yet.

Finally, the Grenade bubbler adds water filtration to every draw. Water pulls heat out of the vapor, making the overall session smoother. Its design is slightly improved over the original bubbler that comes with the previous Core versions.

Portability and Discreetness

The Crossing Core XL is best suited for home or private use. Standing about 5 inches tall, the Core XL is compact for an e-rig but clearly not meant for pocket use. That said, it is very easy to travel with. The included carry case keeps the base, bubbler, atomizer, and tools secure during transport.

The battery delivers around 21 sessions per charge. Because of this, you likely won’t need to carry a charger if you’re taking the device to a friend's house or away from home for the day.

Manufacturing Quality

The Crossing Core XL is a sturdy device. The heavy aluminum base sits firmly on a table and doesn't wobble, making it reliable for daily use.

When it comes to materials, the parts that matter for your vapor do not include silicone and have been purposefully removed to improve the vapor quality, the unit does make use of silicone.

Because the stainless steel joystick housing gets incredibly hot during a session, Crossing wrapped the upper section in a removable silicone jacket. This acts as a thermal barrier, so you can move the joystick comfortably without burning your fingers.

The atomizer is also fully rebuildable, which is a major advantage for long-term use. Instead of having to buy a completely new atomizer when the heater eventually wears out, you simply unscrew the housing and replace the internal bucket. This keeps your long-term running costs lower than most of the top e rigs in the space.

Finally, the Grenade bubbler is made from thick, high-flow borosilicate glass. Its angled mouthpiece lets you draw comfortably without water ever touching your lips, and the whole piece sits securely on the base so you can lift it off easily whenever you need to refill or clean it.

Temperature Flexibility

The Crossing Core XL gives you plenty of control over your session with six preset heat levels. It's a simple, straightforward way to control heat that pairs well with its mid-range unit style.

The six levels are actual temperatures, going from 160°C to 260°C (320°F to 500°F). Here are the 6 levels, indicated by different LED colors:

  • Purple: 320°F (160°C)
  • Yellow: 330°F (166°C)
  • Blue: 350°F (177°C)
  • Green: 395°F (202°C)
  • White: 450°F (232°C)
  • Red: 500°F (260°C)

The lower settings suit softer concentrates or users who prefer more flavorful sessions with less dense vapor. The higher the settings, the denser and the stronger the vapor gets.

How to Clean the Crossing Core 2.0 XL

Residue left in a ceramic bowl builds up and dulls the next dab's flavor. The daily routine takes less than a minute:

  • Lift up the joystick carb cap once the session ends.
  • Wipe the ceramic bowl with an alcohol-soaked cotton swab.
  • Remove the bubbler, pour out the water, and add isopropyl alcohol.
  • Cover the holes, then swirl the alcohol inside the bubbler to dissolve any leftover interior residue.
  • Pour out the isopropyl alcohol and use clean water to flush out any remaining alcohol.
  • Run a heat cycle without any concentrate to burn off any residual alcohol.

Pro Tips for Cleaning:

  • Never submerge the base or the atomizer, which contain the battery, electronics, and heater. Clean the ceramic bowl gently, since scraping or aggressive cleaning can damage the heater.

Compatibility with Accessories

A heated dab tool like the Utillian Hot Wax Axe makes it easier to prepare small loads and drop them in the center of the bowl, where the heat is most even. The included metal tool works, but thicker concentrates slide off a warm tool more cleanly.

A spare Crossing Core 3DXL Joystick Atomizer is worth keeping on hand. The atomizer is the part that wears with use, and a spare means no downtime while the other is being rebuilt or cleaned.

For different water filtration, the Crossing Core Grenade Bubbler is useful to have in case of breakage.

4mm terp pearls are a worthwhile addition for joystick users. The directed airflow keeps them spinning, which spreads the concentrate across the bowl for more even vaporization.

Warranty

The Crossing Core 2.0 XL base carries a one-year manufacturer warranty against defects. The atomizer is covered for one week from delivery against defects, since it's a wear part that can be damaged by aggressive cleaning or accidental damage. Warranty claims go through the store the device was purchased from, so TVape handles any covered issue directly.
