AirVape OM Review

AirVape OM Atomizer

How it Works

While the OM may look like a pretty standard pen vape, there are a few features that help it stand out from the crowd a little. The first is the variable voltage. There are only three settings to choose between, but that’s still a step up from the standard concentrate pen that doesn’t have any.

The button on this is located on the bottom. It looks and feels like the clicky part of a retractable pen. The nice part of this is that it feels cool to click with your thumb. The bad part is that you can’t stand it up, but I normally just lay my wax pens down anyway.

Clicking the button five times turns the OM on and off, while clicking it three times cycles through the voltage options.

The button has a keyring going through it. The idea here is clearly that you can throw this on your keyring and carry it with you, but I really don’t think this actually makes sense to do. Its cool in theory but it just doesn’t work in practice. Number one, I don’t want to pull my keys out every time I want to vape. Number two, I don’t want to carry my vape everywhere I take my keys. And while this is a small vape, I don’t necessarily think it is keychain-worthy small.

In the box for it you’ll see a couple different caps. That’s because you can use this with both small and large pre-filled cartridges. There’s also a dual quartz rod and coil atomizer with an atomizer cover for using this with waxy concentrates. The atomizer is pretty small and the coils are very close, but it still works well.

Temperature Flexibility

This doesn’t have temperature control, but like I mentioned above, you do get three voltage settings.

You can tell what level you are on by the color of the indicator light.

These are your three options:

  • White: 2.4v
  • Blue: 3.2v
  • Red: 4.0v

Not bad at all for a little pen vape.

Vapor Quality

The vapor quality is good. I expected the performance of the dual quartz rod atomizer to be weak considering the size, but I actually enjoyed it very much. You can’t fit all that much material inside, but it makes good use of what you do put in. I was especially impressed with how well it vaporized all the wax without leaving much behind at all.

I found the performance to be the best on 3.2v. This level gives the best blend of good flavor and strong hits. The lower level is a little weak, while the highest option may be best for people who care more about hard-hitting vapor than flavor.

The performance with pre-filled cartridges is as expected. With cartridges, all this is doing is supplying is the power, so it doesn’t have much effect on the vapor quality other than giving you power options.

Manufacturing Quality

The AirVape OM is well made for a pen vape. There’s nothing particularly remarkable about it, but it does have a nice metal construction and the optional wood finish looks nice. It gives it a high-end appearance when compared to other vapes, even if the actual construction isn’t very different.

If I could make one change, it would be to include a coilless atomizer as well. Maybe a bigger battery too.

Battery Life

As I was just saying, the battery in the AirVape OM is on the small side. The capacity is only 350mAh. Average these days is more like 600-700mAh, but most pen vapes are also a good deal longer than this one as well.

How long this lasts you will ultimately depend on how frequently you use it and what voltage you use. If you are a heavy user who likes the hottest setting, then you’ll run through a charge in no time at all. Even moderate users shouldn’t plan on being able to vape on this all day.

Portability

The portability of this is good. Like I mentioned above, it was clearly designed to be able to be carried on your keyring. I personally don’t see this happening, but the size is still nice.

The downside to the small size is the small battery, which limits how you can use this. It wouldn’t be great for an overnight camping trip, or anywhere else that you don’t have dependable access to power, for example.

Ease of Use

This is very easy to use. Five clicks to turn it on and off, three clicks to adjust the voltage. Click and hold the button to take a draw.

This is all standard functionality for a variable voltage vape pen, and I can’t really see anyone having any difficulties with it. Even switching out between cartridges and the atomizer is as simple as unscrewing one and screwing on the other.

Discreetness

This is smaller than your average vape pen, so it gets points for that. I’ll concede that the keyring aspect may be useful for sneaking this into places since most people won’t be looking for a vape on your keys.

It would have been real nice to be able to clip and unclip it from the ring easier.

Overall Experience

I’m personally neutral on the AirVape OM.

It’s a well-built pen, but I personally don’t really use pre-filled cartridges. Which basically makes this a small variable voltage pen that only has a dual quartz rod atomizer. If you’re like me and don’t use cartridges, I don’t see that value.

If you do value the ability to use cartridges with your wax pens, then this could be a good vape to pick up. Just remember that the battery life is relatively weak, especially for use with the wax atomizer.

In my opinion, there are much better ways to spend your money. Look for a wax pen with better coils, even if you have to spend a couple bucks to replace them.

Depending on the style, you can get better flavor, bigger hits, or a combination of both. I’m a big fan of the coilless ceramic atomizers personally like the Thunder 2.
