Boundless Vexil Review: Flame On!

Updated: October 6, 2023

The Boundless Vexil is a conduction-based dry herb vaporizer. It’s a cheaper portable unit that provides decent results, but it does feature a few drawbacks. Keep reading to get into our detailed breakdown of this device and you can always explore other value portable vaporizers from our best budget vaporizers list. Without further adieu, let’s get started.

Boundless Vexil How it worksHow it Works

To use your Vexil for the first time, simply remove your mouthpiece and load with your botanical. Press the power button five times to turn your device on, use the plus-minus buttons to set your temperature, and wait for the unit to vibrate.

Boundless Vexil TemperatureTemperature Flexibility

I found the max temperature setting of 223 degrees celsius to be too harsh for my liking, and I often find this to be the case with any vaporizer once you go past 210 degrees celsius. While the device features a zirconia cooling spiral, I found that it doesn’t reduace how harsh and hot this device can get. And speaking of temperature settings, this device features four: 192 degrees, 204 degrees, 212 degrees and 223 degrees celsius. This level of temperature flexibility is adequate for a device this size, but lacks the range of devices like the Utillian 722. So overall, users looking for power will be satisfied with how much vapor the Vexil can pump out, but should be wary of that max temperature setting. But users looking for better flavor extraction are better off with a device that offers a wider temperature range.

This is a surprisingly powerful conduction based device for its size, featuring an all ceramic chamber, which holds .5 grams of material. By comparison, generally devices this size only hold about 0.25g. So while you will need to spend on more herbs, you’ll be able to extract more in one session. The air intake on this device is big, creating good draw resistance.

Although not the best we’ve seen in terms of sheer quality, for a unit this price its fairly decent.

Boundless Vexil Build QualityBuild Quality

The Boundless Vexil manages its aesthetic very well. While it’s not the smallest overall, it’s definitely among the thinnest, and slides into a pocket no problem. The best description I have is that it’s very similar to a thin folded flip phone. The body is made with anodized metal, mixed with some glossy plastic elements with the LED. This LED indicator is behind this flame flower logo, used to indicate battery life upon startup, and temperature settings. While this is a handy feature, it takes up the entire front of the device. And while the flame logo isn’t bad… Its pretty weak compared to the sleek design of the rest of the unit, in my opinion. It kinda looks like the intern designed the interface and something else to mention is that there is bleeding of the LEDs light from one indicator space to another so it is slightly harder to read which LED is actually on.

Boundless Vexil Manufacturing Quality

Manufacturing Quality

The Vexil features a magnetic mouthpiece, which encases the Zirconia cooling spiral. Zirconia is a type of ceramic with low thermal conductivity, so hypothetically this should work to cool the vapor down, right? Well, in practice, the concept doesn’t work, just based on simple physics. The low conduction of the spiral doesn’t make heat energy disappear, it merely absorbs less heat as the energy moves to other components of the mouthpiece, namely the plastic and eventually your lips. In comparison, when it comes to the german engineered Zeus Arc GTS, it only works because the heatsink connects to the body, with no plastic in between. The body is one piece all made of aluminum, and then passes the heat on to the hand of the user, not only the lips. This transfer or synching of heat out away from the vapor chamber is key and one cannot put plastic in the middle as plastic or silicone is an insulator. So the cooling coil of the vexil, is not so cool after all, and I am pretty sure the engineers at vexil know it. I know this sounds pretty negative, but basically all that means is that your vapor is going to be rather hot or harsh, which for a unit at this price point, is not the end of the world at all.

The mouthpiece itself also creates concerns, as the thin design makes tilting the magnetting attachment very easy. This helps keep the flavor pure at lower temperatures, and clouds thick at higher temperatures. It looks awesome, but that awesome look comes with this drawback. Meaning that it could very easily disassemble during a commute, if placed in a bag, pocket or purse. So users looking to take this device around will be better off using a case like the Armor case, in which you can take a tool and some extra herb. It also lacks a built-in tool, compared to more premium devices like the U620. But with that said, this device is on the more affordable side, which comes at the cost of a built in tool. So overall, while I like the thin chassis of the Vexil, and the decent vapor it generates with the whopping 0.5g chamber, there are clearly some drawbacks to the device like with any other unit.

Boundless Vexil Battery LifeBattery Life

The Boundless Vexil features a 1800mAH battery, which is good for an estimated 6 sessions before needing a recharge. That is on the very low end, but again you cant have this beautiful design, without sacrificing the battery. This device also features a USB-C port and a charge time of only 45 minutes. While the capacity of this battery isn’t anything to write home about, the quick USB-C charging doesn’t make it a problem either. So users looking to take this device around will be able to get through the day before needing a recharge, and if you take a power bank, you rid yourself of any worries surrounding the battery. Just take into account that the battery power will slowly fade over the life of the device, so I would say that the Vexil is best for people that have less sessions than the average consumer of dry herb.

Boundless Vexil Ease of useEase of Use

Considering the entire manual fits on the inside of the box, it goes without saying that operating the device is a breeze. The buttons on the side are big and responsive, making that five tap startup easier than it is on other devices. And the plus and minus buttons make cycling through your temperature presets super simple. As far as features on the Vexil, there frankly aren’t many so…beginners will be more than satisfied here. But again, it offers little to no features as far as operating the device, so the simplicity is more of a result of the overall device.

Boundless Vexil Overall ExperienceOverall Experience

If you’re looking for a thin conduction vape for a low number of sessions, the Boundless Vexil can deliver. While this device has a cool form-factor, every category seems to come with a trade off. Vapor is ok but harsh at times. The design is pocketable, but the inclusion of a cooling coil is pointless and the awesome looking mouthpiece can come right off in your pocket. 45 minute charge time, but small battery. I think this design is a refreshing change to the many boring and round vaporizers out there. Generally I would recommend that you pick up this unit ONLY after checking out our best portable vaporizer ranking page, which we keep updated at all times. In that ranking you can find units that rank higher or are of better value and all sorts of other features that you may feel more attracted to. Especially since the Vexil is a 2nd generation device, and there are already some 3rd generation dry herb vaporizers, that work with prefilled dry herb pods, out there.
