Updated: September 26, 2022

If you’ve read our piece on the best e rigs, you’d probably know that E-nails have been around for quite some time now and while the convenience of not having to use an actual torch is nice, the lack of innovation is starting to get boring. Luckily, it looks like the Kandypens Session is bringing in some useful novelty with its abilities as both a portable e-nail that you can use with your water rigs, and a simple fuss-free vaporizer for vaping wax and concentrates. But does it really excel in any of these departments? Let’s find out in our exclusive review down below.

If you’re wondering what to know before buying a dab pen, we’ve compiled a handy list jam-packed with information that should serve as the perfect primer to help you get started!

Review: Kandypens Session

Kandypens Session E-Nail Review how it works

How it Works

One of the most defining features of the Kandypens Session is its dual outlet design that lets you inhale from either the included mouthpiece or by attaching the 14mm adapter (also included) to the bottom of the device which you can then use in tandem with your rig of choice. The ceramic heating chamber which is located up top is easily accessed by simply popping off the magnetic glass mouthpiece which does a good job of staying in place when needed to, but doesnt give you any trouble when you actually need to access the chamber.

The Kandypens Session operates via a single button with an accompaniment of indicator lights to let you know when the device powers up, what voltage it’s currently set to, and the current battery level. On the same side you’ll also find the conveniently placed USB Type C port for charging the internal 1200mAh battery.

Manufacturing Quality

Not unlike most other vaporizers or e-nails, the Kandypens Session presents itself in a durable looking aluminum alloy shell which comes in a variety of 4 colors (black, pearl white, red, and odyssey which is literally a rainbow/chameleon finish). The exterior offers a comfy and satisfying satin-like feel when held in hand and the sole power button feels sturdy enough to withstand the doubtless numerous sessions which it’ll be put through.

Another strong point in this regard are the included mouthpiece and adapter. The magnet used is no slouch, and when attached to the chamber, the mouthpiece is as snug as a bug. The 14mm male adapter for use with rigs is constructed out of high quality borosilicate glass which should make it resistant to breakage and warping over time not to mention also allowing for easy cleanup when the occasion calls for it.

The use of a Type C port for charging should also be heavily applauded as it’s a step away from the flimsy Micro USB ports of yesteryear. Not only will it be easier to plug in your Kandypens Session for charging, but you’re also assured of a longer lasting and more secure connection over time.

Kandypens Session E-Nail Review temperature flexibilityTemperature Flexibility

Like most e-rigs designed around vaping concentrates, the Kandypens Session unfortunately doesn’t come with any promise of precise temperature control and only allows you to toggle between predetermined voltages. You’ll be able to fire up the device at a minimum of 2.6V, then slowly ramp it up to 3.0V, 3.6V, and finally top out at a max voltage of 4.2V.

While the voltage options are definitely not top-notch, they offer a satisfying middle ground between budget-tier and premium devices. Let’s also not forget that the Kandypens Session uses an above average internal battery rated at 1200mAh. This should make it more capable of hitting those advertised voltages more consistently compared to a similar e-nail with less battery life such as the G  Pen Connect.

Despite Kandypens’ decision to forgo using a quartz heating chamber for the Kandypens Session, the device manages to produce a surprising amount of flavor regardless of whether you use the included mouthpiece or when used in tandem with a rig. For the cloudchasers out there, it should be noted that using the included mouthpiece won’t net you the largest of clouds. This however changes when slapping the device onto your rig of choice, giving you the power for bigger pulls, larger flavor, and of course satisfying clouds.

As previously mentioned above though, the performance of the Kandypens Session can still be considered middling when compared to more premium devices that use a quartz bowl. If you’ve read our Kandypens Crystal review, you’ll know that this pretty much a given with any Kandypens device. Given the price to performance value however, it’s pretty hard to complain. When it comes to pure wax pen performance, we’d still opt for something like the Utillian 5 (V3).

Kandypens Session E-Nail Review battery life

Battery Life

The 1200mAh battery touted by the Kandypens Session is a definite winner in this category, giving you the capability to conduct multiple sessions regardless of your preferred voltage/temperature. If that wasn’t enough, Kandypens also promises a lifetime warranty on the internal battery. Something that is almost unheard of in the industry. This is pretty much a godsend as the downfall of most devices with non-removable batteries are the batteries as their lifespan shortens over time. Apparently this is a non-issue with the Kandypens Session.

Of course the inclusion of an excellent battery wouldn’t mean much if its charging rate is not up to speed, and that’s why the use of a modern Type C charging port is another reason to be happy about. Given that most if not all devices nowadays have moved on from micro USB, having more cables around for charging your vape (in case you lose the included one) is always nice.

Kandypens Session E-Nail Review portabilityPortability

While most portable e-nails aren’t truly portable due to the need to bring along a bubbler or water rig, the Kandypens Session goes around this thanks to its dual outlet function. Having the option to use just the included mouthpiece makes it a true portable device that you can easily carry around and use while on the go. If you’re adamant on getting an all-in-one water filtered unit that can be used on the go however, The Core E-Rig is worth a look.

The device is comfortable to hold and can slide easily into your pocket without feeling too bulky and heavy. Not having to unscrew the mouthpiece to access the heating chamber also allows for quick and easy refills if you happen to be in a rush.

Kandypens Session E-Nail Review ease of useEase of Use

The single button design is simple enough; 5 clicks to turn it on, 2 clicks to engage a 60 second session, and 3 clicks to toggle between the 4 voltage settings. Compared to traditional nails, the voltage presets make finding the ideal temperature to take a hit a breeze and the Kandypens Session comes apart easily enough for quick clean-ups.

The 14mm glass adapter is ideal for most setups and securely slides in the female join with ease so it’s really as  simple as slapping the Kandypens Session on top of your rig of choice, clicking the power button twice and getting to enjoy a high quality vape each and every time.

Kandypens Session E-Nail Review discreetnessDiscreetness

Black will always be the color of choice for those who prefer to go under the radar when using this thing outside the house and the dimensions of the Kandypens Session allow for that too. Users with larger hands should have no issue concealing the device in their hand. The included mouthpiece is compact and silent as well and shouldn’t garner unwanted attention from any passers-by in your vicinity.

While it definitely isn’t as compact or discreet as a simple wax pen, those looking for a bit more oomph in their vape just might be willing to make that trade off in size for a bit more power behind their vape, especially when it comes with the capability to be able to utilize the device as a reliable and easy to use home water rig.

Kandypens_Session E-Nail Review overall experienceOverall Experience

While most of our issues with the Kandypens Session stems from the use of a standard ceramic heating element which only produces slightly above average flavor, the sheer utility and practicality of having something like this for both outdoors and at-home use presents itself as a practical option for any novice or veteran vaper.

Looking at the powerful battery, discreet and compact mouthpiece, and easy-to-use design, the Kandypens Session is a solid contender for anyone looking for mid-tier e-nail that offers a bit more functionality outside of the standard e-nail setup. Does it deserve a spot on our list of best wax pens? That might be a stretch but we’d definitely like to hear your thoughts on it!
