Pulsar Go Series Wax/Smoker Review – A Strange Combo
The Pulsar Go Series Wax/Smoker ePipe is Pulsars latest addition to the market. Weve already reviewed the Pulsar APX Wax, a micro-portable wax unit and it was pretty decent! The Go has a 1,100MaH battery and is designed for vaporizing wax and combusting dry herb. This niche in the market is relatively untouched and likely for good reason. If this is your first wax vaporizer, do check out the Wax Pen Buyers Guide for some handy information to help you get started!
Review: Pulsar Go Series Wax/Smoker
How it Works
The Pulsar Go Series is very easy to use. Five clicks of the button to turn it on, hold the button to warm the element, then take your draw.
Doesnt get any simpler than that. There are two different pods included with the unit, one with a triple-coil setup for your concentrates, and a ceramic pad chamber for dry herb.
By removing the glass mouthpiece you can swap these two on a whim.
Temperature Flexibility
You do not have any control over your temperature. It will heat from anywhere between 932-1112°F/500-600°C. The different pods I imagine work by changing electrical resistance giving you a slightly lower temperature for herb than wax. Heat-up time is only 5 seconds which is also a nice though.
With that being said; a vague temperature range with no control or precise way to tell which temperature you actually sit at is not optimal and for that, I really think this device is outdated right out of the box.
Vapor Quality
Not very good. I wouldnt exactly call this vapor with concentrates as the temperature is so high youre definitely burning a good chunk of your material.
With dry herb, this definitely will just burn your material so this is not a dry herb vaporizer, and I struggle to consider it a wax vaporizer since it burns so hot!
You do on the other hand get very large and substantial clouds, so if youre a cloud chaser with no other priorities, this unit may be right for you!
Elsewise, the heat, flavor, and smoothness of the vapor is really below-par and there are many other units Id recommend instead especially the Zeus Thunder 2 for those flavor chasers. Again, for a sort of one-hitter type unit that can do wax and dry herb, itd work fine, however, I really struggle to see if there would be many people this would suit.
Oh and if you combust herb then do a wax session later, the flavor just tastes like well, you can imagine. The borosilicate mouthpiece is nice; however, it likes to retain flavor and scent from your last session.
Manufacturing Quality
Manufacturing quality is pretty ok. The glossy finish looks nice initially however it quickly becomes a grime and fingerprint magnet. Youll get scratches and fingerprints in no time.
The hand-blown borosilicate mouthpiece is nice, though a drop onto concrete or a hard floor likely would spell disaster for it. The unit does have a nice weight and feel to it and ergonomics work well.
For $80USD, you cant expect a supreme finish and quality, and thats understandable. They do include a standard accessories kit which has:
- 1 herb & 1 wax atomizer
- Borosilicate glass mouthpiece
- 32mm silicone wax container
- MicroUSB cable
- Wax dabber tool and cleaning brush
Not a luxurious product or outstandingly crafted, however for the price, it feels decently sturdy and you can do worse.
Battery Life
The battery lasts a good amount of time for being quite small at only 1100MaH.
You can easily go a couple days without needing to charge it, and it goes from flat until full in around 90 minutes with the included MicroUSB cable.
You can easily get a few dozen sessions in without worrying at all.
Portability
This is where the Go has some redeeming factors. The size is nice and small, slides into any pocket or bag easily and is great for on the go use!
Itll feel a bit too bulky in a set of pants pockets, and if youre a light traveler who wants to take solid wax hits, I recommend the V2 Pro Series 3 instead, which has separate pods and vaporizes dry herb!
Ease of Use
The Pulsar Go Series is quite easy to use. One-button operation, turning it on and engaging the heater are both done through the same button.
Loading your material is a bit difficult as the chambers are a little small, which isnt great if you have shaky hands.
Overall though theres nothing complex about it so getting going shouldnt take more than a few minutes time.
Cleaning it is a bit of a pain, using a cotton swap and 99% isopropyl alcohol works well for the ceramic chamber, however, youll need to let the pod with coils and the mouthpiece soak in alcohol for a while to really get the grime and stink out effectively. Alcohol wipes are a bit too difficult to really get in there with.
Discreetness
Its a mix. The size is rather small and palms very nicely, however, the smell is very strong, especially if you use dry herb as it combusts.
You wouldnt be able to walk around in plain sight without someone catching onto the smell coming from the clouds you exhale. For that reason, I say the unit is not very discreet at all.
Overall Experience
I would not recommend this. It fits the niche for both a one-hitter and quick wax vaporizer, which is so conflicting in itself.
This is not a dry herb vaporizer so please look elsewhere if youre in the market for one! If you are looking for an affordable starter vaporizer we recommend checking out the Utillian 420.
The market for a wax vaporizer and herb smoker combined device isnt there and for good reason its really just not that useful.
