The Yocan Evolve wax pen features a dual quartz atomizer, a fixed temperature and a single button to offer a hassle-free wax experience. While this device may be very user-friendly, how does the vapor stack up to other introductory wax pens? Read our review to find out. Review: Yocan Evolve
How it Works
The Yocan Evolve as we mentioned is very straightforward to use. First unscrew the mouthpiece to expose the atomizer, next unscrew the atomizer cap to reveal the heating chamber.
Use the loading tool to place your wax directly to the heating coils. Be sure not to touch the coils with the metal tool as it may damage them. Screw the mouthpiece back on the unit and you are ready to vaporize.
Like most wax pens, 5 clicks on the power button will turn the device on. Then simply press and hold the power button while drawing from the mouthpiece to enjoy your vapor.
The Yocan Evolve does not feature any type of temperature control.
This means that the device will continue to heat the coils until your release the power button.
After 10 seconds the Yocan Evolve will stop heating automatically to preserve battery life.
The only way you can control the temperature with the Evolve is by manually pulsing the power button to try and maintain your preferred temperature.
Vapor quality on the Yocan Evolve is pretty decent; the dual quartz coil setup has become a standard in the wax pen industry because of its flavor and cloud production.
However because this unit does not have any type of temperature flexibility, the quality of vapor can vary depending on how long you hold down the power button.
If you hold the button down for the entire duration of the 10 seconds, you will be able to achieve maximum vapor production, but you will sacrifice the flavor and smoothness of your draw.
We found that for best results, to hold the power button for about 3 – 5 seconds and then pulse the power button, monitoring the harshness on your throat as you continue to draw.
The Yocan Evolve is a well put together device for the price. It is sturdy and feels great in your hands.
We really like that the atomizers for the Yocan Evolve feature an atomizer cap. This cap really helps cut down on splatter in your wax pen, which in turn helps maximize efficiency.
It also acts as a heat sync, allowing the hot vapor to cool slightly before reaching your lips.
Yocan also provides you with 2 atomizers out of the box which means it will be a couple months before you will need to purchase replacements.
The Yocan Evolve features a single 650mah ego-style battery, which is pretty standard on most wax pens. The battery life on the Evolve is fairly average when compared to the rest of the pack.
If you are a heavy user you can expect to charge the battery at least once a day. Lighter users will be able to go a few days without the need to charge.
With the Yocan Evolve, you have to detach the battery from your device in order to charge it. This means the Yocan Evolve cannot be used while charging, which is a bit of a bummer.
The Yocan Evolve is a pen-sized wax vaporizer, which means it will easily fit in your pocket or bag for easy transportation. For even more portability you could pick up a Zeus Thunder Case for some added convenience.
The battery life also helps this unit maintain its portability, providing enough charge to last you for a night out.
Ease of Use
The Yocan Evolve is a super simple device to use, mostly because of the single button and fixed temperature. This takes a lot of hassle and learning curve out of using this wax pen.
Simply load the device with your choice of wax, press the power button 5 times quickly to turn it on. And press and inhale at the same time to enjoy your vapor.
The Yocan Evolve shares a similar shape and size to many e-cigarette units which really helps with discretion. Most on-lookers will assume you are enjoying some e-juice rather than vaping concentrates.
Also, if you take very short draws you are able to minimize the amount of vapor produced which will help you keep a low-profile.
For a first wax pen, you could do a lot worse than the Yocan Evolve. It does not offer many bells or whistles, you only receive 1 style of atomizer and it has a fixed temperature. It does a decent job at producing flavorful vapor, however, at times, vapor can come across as a bit harsh.
If this will be your first wax pen, we would encourage you to also take a look at the Thunder 2. They share the same simple functionality, but the Thunder 2 offers a plate atomizer rather than a coil atomizer. Plate atomizers are growing in popularity because they are much more efficient, wasting less wax while providing great flavor.
