Yocan Orbit Wax Pen Review: An Affordable approach to a flavorful Wax Pen?

Updated: March 26, 2024

The Yocan Orbit is a Wax Pen with a unique quartz bowl with spinning terp pearls that enhance the vaporization of your concentrates. It is one of the latest products from Yocan, a brand that specializes in affordable vaporizers for Wax, Dry Herbs, and Concentrates.

The Yocan Orbit is designed to deliver flavour rich vapor from your wax with ability to clean the bucket chamber between sessions and maintenance. The maintenance is key for this unit since the wax tends to splash on the silicone turbulence creator. It has a sturdy stainless steel body, a glass mouthpiece that preserves the flavor, and a single-button operation with three voltage settings.

The Orbit also has a replaceable 1700 mAh battery that supports USB-C charging. The Yocan Orbit is a great option for wax enthusiasts looking for a simple, effective device that won’t break the bank.

Despite the extra maintenance the Orbit requires to keep the terp pearls spinning, it ranks relatively well in our Best Wax Pens ranking, which ranks the top concentrate pens in the world. But for now, let’s dive into our detailed Yocan Orbit review!

Yocan Orbit Wax Pen

Yocan Orbit Wax Pen How it WorksHow it Works

The Yocan Orbit is a Wax Pen that uses a quartz bowl with spinning terp pearls to vaporize your concentrates, similar to what we see on the Utillian 8 but not as perfected. The Yocan Orbit features a simple and straightforward operation that allows you to enjoy your wax in no time. Here is how it works:

Step 1: Remove the Glass Mouthpiece and load your Wax onto the Heating Element.
Step 2: Press the power button five times to turn it on; the LED flashes when active.
Step 3: Press the power button three times to change the voltage; the LED color indicates the voltage
Step 4: To Vaporize Manually: hold the power button and inhale; release when done.
Step 4.5: To Vaporize Automatically: Press the Power Button twice to activate the pre-heat function
Step 5: Inhale when the heating chamber is fully heated or while you maintain the power button pressed.

Vapor Quality

The Yocan Orbit delivers decently powerful hits and consistent vapor, attributed to its coil-less quartz bowl and terp pearls. The quartz bowl heats up while the terp pearls create a vortex for even heat distribution, enhancing flavor.

The spinning terp pearls sometimes require a stronger inhale to create turbulence. This can be a bit inconvenient, but it’s necessary to achieve the unique spinning sound and enhance the concentrate’s flavor. Despite some inefficiencies, the overall experience is enjoyable, similar to playing with a Gameboy for the first time. We knew the resolution wasn’t great, and better devices would come, but we still had much fun.

In theory, this unit should provide E-rig results, or that’s what Yocan aimed for. Although the Orbit has some cool features, it does not provide dense vapor. Users will tend to notice that the more hits they take, the less flavorful the vapor becomes. Generally, the device works at its best when fully cleaned between sessions. It would seem that Yocan chose light and flavorful over big and dense hits.

If you want a Wax Pen that’s easier to use, consider the Utillian 5. It’s like a reliable machine that can go for days or weeks without needing to be cleaned. The Orbit, on the other hand, tends to get clogged after just 3 uses. Overall, if you really like the idea of spinning terp pearls and don’t mind taking care of the device, you might find this one interesting.

Manufacturing Quality

The Yocan Orbit is a decently well-made Wax Pen, considering its price point. The main body of the device is made of stainless steel, which gives it a solid and durable feel. The device is definitely on the heavier side but easy enough to hold, measuring 5.5 inches in length and 0.6 inches in diameter. The device has a shiny finish and a Yocan logo engraved on the side.

The Orbit comes with a glass mouthpiece that attaches to the top of the device with two rubber seal rings. Rubber and silicone are not definitely materials you want to see near your mouthpiece since they will give users some plastic-like taste and smell. The mouthpiece is shaped like a bell and has a tapered end that fits comfortably in the mouth.  Having said that, while the glass is a cheap way to keep your vapor pure, its also very susceptible to breaking.

The device also comes with a 1700 mAh battery that supports USB-C charging. The battery is located at the bottom of the device and can be easily removed by unscrewing it from the main body. The Orbit has an LED indicator that shows the remaining power level and the current voltage setting.

The device also comes with a full kit of tools and spares, including two pick tools, four extra seal rings, five extra quartz balls, a hanging ring, and a lanyard. The tools and spares are useful for loading, cleaning, and maintaining the device. With that said, having this many extra accessories can really become annoying when traveling with the unit. I would have liked to see a more user-friendly design like the Gammatron, which offers its own Wax Storage and built-in tool so users won’t have to keep separate containers with tools or Wax in them.

Temperature Flexibility

The Yocan Orbiut has three voltage settings that you can easily adjust by pressing the power button twice. The LED light around the button will change color to indicate the current voltage:

Green for 3.2Volts
Blue for 3.7Volts
White for 4.2Volts

Theoretically, the minimum voltage setting of 3.2V is meant for smooth and flavorful vapor. This is ideal for users who want to enjoy the terpenes and aromas of their wax without harshness or irritation. The medium voltage setting of 3.7V should produce balanced vapor with slightly more emphasis on clouds and potency. The highest voltage setting of 4.2V should create dense and powerful vapor with maximum clouds and intensity. In reality, the highest setting tends to produce harsh vapor with little terpene flavor.

For its price and simplicity, the Yocan Orbit’s temperature flexibility is satisfactory and sufficient for most users who want to enjoy their wax with different options and outcomes. I just recommend using lower temperatures to ensure the most flavorful vapor.

Portability

The Yocan Orbit is technically a Wax Pen meant to fit in your pocket easily. It was designed for people who like pen-shaped devices but wanted a more specialized method of using concentrates. However, it’s important to note that the Yocan Orbit is bigger than a typical vape pen, so it may not fit comfortably in your pocket, especially with its large glass mouthpiece. As an example, the Utillian 2 also features a glass mouthpiece, which is much shorter, so it is harder to break while still providing pure flavor at an affordable price thanks to the glass.

The device comes with a hanging ring and a lanyard that allows you to carry it around your neck or wrist for quick access, but let’s be honest, who really wants to hang this type of wax pen that shows all the insides of the heating chamber anywhere visible? This option is unfortunately more viable since the glass mouthpiece has less chance of breaking, but it throws discreetness out of the window.

Discreetness

The hanging ring and lanyard on this unit make it difficult to use it secretly. However, it seems Yocan didn’t intend for it to be discreet. The operation of this device already removes the chance for any discrete sessions since loading and heating require many steps. People who want a discreet Wax Pen might prefer the Gammatron. It looks more discreet and requires fewer steps to start a session, which means less time using it in public.

In general, it is safe to say that the Yocan Orbit is meant to be used at home, where one can clean it between sessions and focus on the sound and beauty of the spinning terp pearls.

Battery Life

The Yocan Orbit boasts a 1700 mAh battery, supporting USB-C fast charging. With an LED indicator, users can easily gauge battery level: green (100%-70%), blue (70%-40%), and red (40%-10%)

A red flashing LED signals low battery, prompting auto shut-off. Fully charged in 2.5 hours, its battery also offers a 10-second preheat feature at 3.4V, conserving energy. While other models like the Utillian 5 have smaller batteries, they feel more efficient. The Orbit delivers satisfactory power for its price, but the larger battery does force this unit to be heavier and bulkier than your average Wax Pen.

Ease of Use

The Yocan Orbit features single-button operation, which can be definitely reassuring for most users since that seems to be the standard we see on most Wax Pens. The LED ring around the button informs you about the voltage level and battery status.

You can load up to 0.1 g of wax in the chamber without risking spills and splashing. It’s quite straightforward when you know what you’re doing.  The issue I found with the unit is that too many accessories and tools are needed to get a session going. Not to mention if you are in a rush or on the move.

The operation is theoretically easy, but in reality, it’s just inconvenient. Cleaning is not difficult because you can use a grime wipe to clean the removable glass piece. If you need help cleaning a Wax Pen, refer to our guide.

Yocan Orbit Overall Experience Overall Experience

The Yocan Orbit is a notable addition to the Wax Pen market in terms of its attempt to integrate a coilless bowl and spinning terp pearls. Crafted with a durable stainless steel body, a flavor-preserving glass mouthpiece, and three distinct voltage settings, its innovative operation gives Wax enthusiasts hope for upcoming evolutions.

With that said, the Orbit may not be as useful as it initially appears. It might be suitable for home use where you have time to prepare for a session, but designing the unit as a pen-style vaporizer would lose its meaning. While I greatly appreciate the idea, I wouldn’t choose the Orbit over a traditional Wax Pen as a daily driver. However, as many customers of ours do collect different devices for the fun of having a full arsenal of “grown up” toys, the Orbit would be part of my arsenal and get action once a month or so.
