Volcano Hybrid vs. Arizer Extreme Q – Can budget be better?

Updated: October 6, 2023

The legendary and new Volcano Hybrid is pitted against the Arizer Extreme Q in a showdown. The Canadian company Arizer has been competing with the German giants Storz & Bickel since its conception, and each company has two distinct design philosophies.

More than three times more expensive than the Arizer EQ, the Volcano Hybrid and its legendary status are compared to the budget-friendly Arizer EQ which has been out for a handful of years already. Both devices have multi-function use and can be used with both the whip and with balloons. Arizer Extreme Q vs Volcano Hybrid is highly debatable throughout the vaping community since the former is like a tank but costly while the later is cheaper and efficient.

If you haven’t yet, check out our Arizer EQ and the Volcano Hybrid review respectively to learn some more about the devices and see which desktop dry herb vaporizer is best for you!

Volcano Hybrid vs. Arizer Extreme Q power controlTemperature Flexibility – Hybrid is faster heating, EQ has more range

Both devices have complete and accurate, digital temperature control, unlike the Plenty that is adjusted using the dial. Both devices can be adjusted on the device itself or wirelessly via remote. The Arizer Extreme Q ranges between 50° C – 260° C (122° F – 500° F) while the Volcano can be set between 40°C-230°C.

For all intents and purposes though, they both have great temperature control and neither reign’s superior, however, the Volcano does warm up much faster at around 45 seconds compared to roughly 3 minutes for the Arizer EQ.

Slight edge to the Volcano Hybrid here for its quicker heat up time!

Volcano Hybrid vs. Arizer Extreme Q mouth pieceVapor Quality – Does the Hybrid edge out the EQ for Vapor?

While the Arizer Extreme Q provides good vapor, the Volcano Hybrid really knocks it out of the park here. The extraction is more complete, the flavour is better, clouds are denser, and the vapor overall is just better.

The Arizer EQ is more light and fluffy, with nice flavour and good vapor production, depending on the set temperature.

The Volcano Hybrid, on the other hand, produces dense and powerful vapor with great flavour and strong effects. With the help of a Volcano concentrate pad, the Hybrid manages to vape concentrates a whole lot better than the EQ and even its newer sibling, the Arizer XQ2 as well. The experience with both the Volcano Hybrid tube and especially the Volcano vaporizer bags is better with the Volcano. Is it $500 better? Perhaps not, but it’s quite significant! Users looking for a high quality vapor in a portable vaporizer usually tend to prefer units like the Zeus Arc GTS Hub.

Point for the Volcano Hybrid here!

Stacking both of them side by side will show you the clear winner here. They both look like space-age instruments with interesting design philosophies, but the Volcano definitely has the better build. Both companies Arizer and Storz & Bickel have top of the top reliability.

Comparing them is a bit unfair since they’re both absolutely great and reliable, however, the Hybrid is stronger, better looking (preference), more professional-feeling and overall a complete beast similar to its portable version the Mighty which too has a strong and sturdy built. This isn’t to say that the EQ isn’t good itself, but they’re clearly in different leagues when side by side.

The Volcano Hybrid’s app is also a clear winner here. The wireless control for the Extreme Q is great however the Bluetooth app really brings it up to the next level in terms of adjustability and function.

What’s included in the box is awesome from both companies, and you’ll be set up to get up and going right away with no other annoying purchases to be made. Though we must say, the kit from Storz & Bickel is clearly of higher quality and a couple of included accessories and not found on the Extreme Q.

Clear victory here for the Volcano Hybrid, however, the Arizer EQ is still great, especially for the price!

Volcano Hybrid vs. Arizer Extreme Q in useEase of Use – Which is easier to use?

Unlike the portable units like the Utillian 722 vaporizers that are easy to use even for a first timer, both units do have a little bit of learning required to get going and rocking, however, the Volcano Hybrid is slightly easier to use and master.

The wireless control with the remote for the Arizer EQ works great and is very convenient. The new Volcano Hybrid and it’s Smartphone app is also terrific and also gives you complete wireless control.

The Arizer is easier to clean as the glass bits can all be dropped into a jar of isopropyl alcohol and left to clean over 10 minutes before rinsing. The Volcano Hybrid and its screens and chambers are a bit more difficult to clean and require a bit more attention and care. Still, it’s not too bad.

Tie in this category!

Volcano Hybrid vs. Arizer Extreme Q ReachReach – Both perfect for parties!

Reach is the one category that the Extreme Q lorded over the Classic Volcano because it offered an Arizer Extreme Q whip attachment, which was missing from the Volcano’s arsenal.

Well this has been rectified with the Volcano Hybrid, making these two devices identical when it comes to how they can be configured. Balloon or whip? It’s up to you! In addition, the Hybrid can be used when going solo with the help of an optional Volcano Filling Chamber Reducer which lets you get the same amount of flavor with a lot less dry herb. This shouldnt be confused with the EASY VALVE filling chamber reducer which is designed for the Volcano Classic.

Overall Experience

While the Arizer Extreme Q is great, it’s clear the Volcano Hybrid was cut from a completely different cloth. The Extreme Q is like a Honda Civic– nice, gets the job done, and will last a long time before wearing out, all without draining your wallet! The Volcano Hybrid is like a BMW M series car– expensive, remarkably powerful, and German-ly engineered to be a true behemoth.

To settle the great Arizer Volcano debate, while the Extreme Q is a great value and performs very well for its price, it really doesn’t quite match the raw power of the Volcano Hybrid. They’re both excellent, but the Volcano really takes the crown here.

For vaporists on a budget and who still want a solid piece that will leave them satisfied for years to come, the Arizer Extreme Q is a really solid piece of machinery which still hits well even in 2020 and you can read more about it in our in depth Extreme Q review. The Volcano Hybrid, however, is one of the best vaporizers ever and has just come out. You pay a premium for sure but without a doubt, you get what you pay for!
