Zeus Thunder 2 vs Yocan Evolve – Budget Battle

0

Choosing a wax pen can be even harder than picking a dry herb vape. They all look extremely similar, but the prices can be wildly different. This leaves you with the seemingly impossible task of figuring out which one is the better value. I’m about to make this task a little easier by comparing the ZEUS Thunder 2 to the Yocan Evolve. The Thunder 2 comes in at a higher price, but the feature lists of both look similar at a glance. Keep reading to find out which one is the better vape and better value…

Vapor Quality

I’m very impressed with how flavorful the vapor is from the Zeus Thunder 2. I’d say the majority of wax pens deliver pretty muted flavor, but the Thunder 2 does an excellent job preserving it. The vapor also goes down incredibly smooth.

It’s not hard to pinpoint why this is the case. The Thunder 2 was designed to do this, and the evidence is in the atomizer. It’s only atomizer is a coilless ceramic dish, which heats your wax more evenly and at a lower temperature than options with coils. This keeps your wax from overheating and losing flavor.

The Yocan Evolve also only has a single atomizer. The style is quartz dual coil. In my experience, this is the most common atomizer on the market, largely because it can offer a decent blend of flavor and vapor density. In the case of the Evolve, the flavor isn’t great. It doesn’t taste bad, but it definitely doesn’t taste as good as the Thunder 2 either.

I’ll give the Evolve this: it can hit extremely hard. Part of this is the vapor density, but part of it is also the fact that it can get harsh towards the end of your draw (it gets hotter the longer you hold the button).

Manufacturing Quality

What the Thunder 2 lacks in versatility, it makes up for in quality. You don’t really get a lot of options with this vaporizer. There is only one atomizer. You can’t adjust the temperature. The battery is internal. Despite all this, I still really like the Thunder 2 because of how well its made.

The materials used are high quality, and the machining is excellent. It looks and feels slick, and the whole thing is calibrated to make getting extremely flavorful vapor so simple that even a complete novice could do it.

The Evolve comes across as flimsy in my view. Like the Thunder 2, it also only has one atomizer and no temperature flexibility. But the machining isn’t nearly as nice, and it reminds me of a cheap vape you’d pick up at a shop. I suppose this isn’t all that surprising, because that’s exactly how it is priced as well. You get what you pay for, after all!

Ease of Use

Getting vapor from either of these is as simple as putting wax in the atomizer, turning it on, and engaging the heat. That’s literally all there is to using both of these. You can’t adjust the temperature, and there is only one atomizer. You honestly can’t get any easier than this. The Thunder 2 delivers better vapor with the same ease, which is something to consider.

Portability

These are also nearly identical in terms of portability. The sizes are almost exactly the same, though the Thunder 2 is a little taller. As far as how easy these are to carry, there is no actual difference. You could slide either of these into your pocket and not notice it at all. They’re both very portable in this respect. The other thing that can affect portability is how long the battery lasts, but there isn’t any difference there either.

Battery Life

From my experience, you’re looking at about an hour of continuous use from both the Thunder 2 and the Evolve. Each one has a 650mAh battery, and they seem to be equally efficient regarding how much life they can get out of it.

As far as wax pens go, this is about as good as you are going to get in terms of battery performance. If you want more, you’d have to find a bigger base and lose the convenience and portability of the super slim designs.

Discreetness

You may think that these perform equally in this department as well, but you’d be wrong. They are both small and easy to conceal, but the Thunder 2 has a distinct advantage.

The vapor isn’t nearly as noticeable, and it’s much easier to keep the clouds you exhale manageable. This again goes back to the difference in atomizer style.

The dual quartz coil produces much thicker clouds, and the Evolve seems to have more of a smell as well. If discretion is important to you, the Thunder 2 seems like the better pick for these reasons.

Temperature Flexibility

Neither one of these has any temperature flexibility to speak of. You could technically argue that holding the button in longer makes the temperature of the atomizer go higher, but this isn’t temperature flexibility with any functional value.

If you want to be able to adjust the temperature, you’ll have to keep looking, we suggest checking out the Source Orb 4 Signature Kit.

I will say that I like the Thunder 2’s temperature better than the Evolve’s. While I have no idea what they actually are, I would guess the Thunder 2 is lower because the vapor is more smooth and not as hot.

SHOWDOWN

In my opinion, the Thunder is a much better vaporizer than the Evolve.

The Evolve didn’t beat the Thunder 2 in any of the categories, while the Thunder 2 won big in the two most important areas: vapor and build quality.

I typically like a vaporizer with more options, but the Thunder 2 offers the best combination of vapor flavor, build quality, and ease of use out of any wax pen I’ve ever tried. Most easy to use vaporizers come with average vapor production at best, but the Thunder 2’s is top tier.

I recommend the Thunder 2 highly, but it all comes down to what you are looking for.

If you’re looking for a wax pen that will allow you to fully enjoy all the benefits of concentrates, get the Thunder 2. If you don’t have the money and just want something that works, the Evolve will get the job done.
