Firefly 2 Plus Tutorial Review
How’s it going Youtube, this is Alex for TVape TV, in the studio, with a look at the Firefly 2 S – sorry, I mean the Firefly 2 plus. The guys at Apple – jeez, I mean Firefly, have made an update to their second model, with a couple changes. We’re going to dig in and find out exactly what’s different. But first, if at any point you like this video, throw us a thumbs up would ya? If you really like, subscribe for more. Let’s get into it!
What’s in the box
The Firefly 2 Plus comes with the vaporizer itself, including a battery, a USB 3.0 Cable, 1 Extract Pad, 1 Charging Dock, and 3 Alcohol Wipes.
The Firefly 2 plus has full temperature control via the app. We recommend that when using dry herb, only go as high as 230 Celsius or 420 Fahrenheit, or you could combust your herbs. My typical session starts at 180 Celsius and temp-step (thanks 420 VapeZone, I didn’t know there was a term for that) up to about 210, and 220 if I’m feeling frisky.
To start your session, remove the lid of the Firefly 2 plus by pulling up on it. Load your ground herb into the chamber, then replace the lid.
Open up your Firefly app and set the Firefly 2 Plus to the temperature of your choice. Then press both of your fingers onto the sensors on the side of the unit. The Firefly 2 Plus logo will pulse and the unit will begin to heat up. It only takes a couple seconds to heat up, which is phenomenal. When the light goes solid, you’re ready to go!
The Firefly 2 Plus has the same chamber as its predecessor, and the borosilicate vapor pathway remains the same, so fans of that great Firefly taste will be happy.
They’ve updated the Firefly’s firmware – improving battery life, which I was skeptical of, and an increased airflow into the unit by 33% which you can definitely feel when drawing.
They have also added a feature that will slowly increased temperature throughout your draw to ensure you extract the most out of whichever herb you’re using.
The Firefly 2 Plus is a convection unit, but there is some conduction happening, as the chamber does get hot. With any vaporizer, and a slow and steady draw will get you best results. With the Firefly 2 Plus, a very slow and steady draw will get you best results. Also remember, as with any convection unit, a good stir between draws works wonders.
We’d also like to mention that the Firefly is still one of the only vaporizers out there to truly perform with dry herb and concentrates.
That being said, our main problem with the Firefly 2 was draw restriction, and while they have increased the airflow by 33 percent, it still requires a learning curve for best results, but more on that later.
Firefly has been steadily bettering their units since the first iteration. The Firefly 1 was released in 2013, and the 2 was released in 2016. The Firefly 2 was 55% lighter and 33 % smaller than the first one. The 2 Plus is the same size as the 2, and it has the same quality machining as the 2.
The top lid on the 2 Plus has another hole for the LED logo on it. We like the change, but we would’ve preferred something a little more functional, like a display. I get it, it’s not the Firefly 3, however 3 years between models is a little long, no? But, I’m being picky.
The Firefly 2 Plus is light but sturdy, with a high quality feel in the unit and the packaging. It definitely feels like an Apple product. It’s almost like a former Apple developer has something to do with it.
But the plastic mouthpiece. Still with the plastic mouthpiece?! On a 250 dollar device that has very good build quality? But I digress.
Ease of Use
The Firefly 2 Plus, just like it’s predecessor, is not an easy device to use device – I’m sorry, but plastic mouthpiece?! - with a learning curve. To really get great vapor out of the 2 Plus, have a slow and steady draw as we mentioned before. Sip on that milkshake, baby.
That was unintentionally gross, I apologize. But seriously, sip it like a milkshake and you’ll get best results.
From a usability standpoint, they didn’t change much between iterations. One of our biggest problems with the Firefly 2 was ease of use, and they don’t do much to address this.
Giving it to friends is a dicey proposition, as the technique is something a little more practice will help a lot. That being said, you can pick this baby up out of the box and use it with minimal issues, just not max performance.
Portability/ Battery Life
It has the same cradle as the 2, which, if you’ve watched any of our previous videos, I’m not a huge fan of. I like taking my vaporizers out and about, and the cradle does not allow you to throw the 2 plus in your bag and charge it up.
In terms of battery life, it actually uses the same 770 mAh battery that the previous model does, but they have updated the firmware to increase battery life. The 2 plus only comes with one battery, unlike the 2, but this is probably one of the reasons it costs a sizeable amount less.
It still pales in comparison to the Arc’s 3500 mAh battery, but hey, I’m shameless plugging again.
I typically get about 3-5 bowls out of each charge, which aint bad. It takes about 45 minutes to charge, but interestingly takes about 20 minutes to get to 80% battery life. If you would like to know more about where you should keep your battery life and other vaporizer tips, check out our Tips & Tricks video, which I’ll link up here.
Cleaning the 2 Plus is very easy. You really only have to worry about the mouthpiece, the vapor path and the chamber. To clean the vapor path, grab your isopropyl and Q-Tips or your Zeus Grime Sticks if you’re lazy like me. Wipe down the pathway and then dry it with a paper towel.
To clean the chamber, grab another Q-Tip, turn your unit upside down so you don’t get any alcohol into the device, and wipe down the chamber.
The final piece to clean is the mouthpiece. Remove it, throw it in a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol, shake it up, rinse it, let it sit for about 10 minutes and replace it.
And that’s it. As with any vaporizer, treat it well and it will reward you in spades.
The Firefly 2 Plus almost feels like a relaunch of The Firefly 2, with a few tweaks and improvements, but it largely remains the same experience, for better or worse. I would recommend the Firefly 2 Plus for someone who is all about that flavour and doesn’t already have the 2. I liken it again to Apple, if you have the iPhone 8 don’t get the 8 Plus. And that’s it for today’s tutorial review of the Firefly 2 Plus! Thank you so much for watching. Tap that like button if you enjoyed this video. Hit subscribe if you really enjoyed it. You should get the Firefly 2+ if...
You are looking for a single-user portable vaporizer that is able to deliver vapor instantly with no heat-up time. The Firefly 2+ looks to improve over the popular Firefly 2 vaporizer, offering improved airflow and a refined heating system.
The Firefly 2+ can reach your set temperature in as little as 5 seconds, which makes taking a quick hit super simple. Due to the on-demand nature of the Firefly 2+’s heating, your cannabis will not cook between draws. This means no waste while you are trying to catch your breath from your last draw. It also makes the Firefly 2+ super easy to put down mid-session to come back and finish later.
Bluetooth App for Temperature Control
The Firefly app unlocks the Firefly 2+’s temperature control. The temperature range for cannabis flower caps at around 225°C, while the temperature range for cannabis concentrates maxes out at 260°C. This gives you maximum control over both your cannabis flower and extract sessions. Just make sure you have your phone handy when you want to switch.
Removable 7.4V Lithium Battery
The Firefly 2+ is powered by a 770mah removable 7.4V Lithium battery. Inside the box you will find two 770mah batteries allowing you to swap on the go. Each battery should provide 2- 3 sessions depending on temperature settings and general use. To charge the batteries simply connect the Firefly 2+ to the included charging doc.
Strong Extract Performance
The Firelfy 2+ includes a mesh liquid pad which allows the device to be used with your favorite cannabis extracts and concentrates. The Firefly 2+’s performance with extracts is excellent and in fact, rivals the devices dry herb performance, making it one of the most competent 2 in 1 vaporizers in the marketplace.
2 Year Limited Warranty
The Firefly 2+ vaporizer comes backed by a 2-year manufacturers warranty. This does not cover normal degradation of the battery or general wear and tear. But 2 years is a great amount of time for your piece of mind. If something should happen to your Firefly 2+ Vaporizer do not hesitate to contact Firefly’s customer service team and they will be happy to help.
