Smok E-Priv Review

Manufacturing Quality

Now while we’ve already had a whole bunch of super-car inspired mods grace our pages, this is the first time for a device to actually mirror the actual internals of a high powered racing machine. Featuring an engine-like aesthetic, the Smok E-Priv isn’t being very subtle about its potential horsepower.

Reaching 230 watts of vaping power isn’t exactly ground-breaking in terms of maximum output, but where the Smok E-Priv shines is in its internals, specifically the awesome ARM-M4 that’s running underneath the hood. With basically double the bandwidth and computing power of your average device, the Smok E-Priv now fires significantly faster with almost no firing delay at all.

Utilizing a symmetrical design with a centered 510 connection, the Smok E-Priv is both convenient to hold and use. The ergonomic shape paired with the practical location of the 510 makes vaping as intuitive as possible as well as allowing for atomizers as large as 26mm in diameter to fit up top without any overhang. People who use 510 cartridges tend to prefer the Vessel 510 thread battery.

The side firing bar is indicative of the usual Smok design language and doesn’t deviate much from their other devices. This is a good thing as not only is it easy to find, but the satisfying and responsive tactile feedback it offers whenever pressed ensures that you’re always in control when handling the mod.

The Smok E-Priv also delivers the best of both worlds as not only is it a looker thanks to the high-resolution color display, the sturdy zinc alloy chassis gives it a good feeling of heft and durability when handled. The color display is easily legible, even when viewed under direct sunlight, while the exterior finish is pretty much your standard fare as far as Smok is concerned, which means its excellent and highly resistant to wear and tear.

Flavor Quality

Most Smok fans might think they’ve seen it all considering that the E-Priv kit still includes the all-popular TFV12 Prince tank, but the innovation in this kit lies within the tank itself. Utilizing Smok’s brand new dual mesh coil system rated at a low 0.2-ohms, vapor and flavor production on the Prince tank is quite impressive.

The large surface area of the mesh allows for maximum vaporization without being prone to the dreaded dry hit which means chain vapers should find a lot to like about this kit.

The airflow control on the TFV12 Prince is easy to adjust and it doesn’t take much tinkering to find the right airflow setting to match your needs. Efficient and well-designed, the airflow is far from turbulent and we’ve been unable to produce any whistling on our test unit even when experimenting with the various airflow settings. If you are someone who also uses 510 oil cartridges and other vapers have reported CCELL Palm is a good place to start.

Smok E-Priv power controlPower Flexibility

Thanks to the ARM-M4 chipset powering the Smok E-Priv, support for all the various vaping modes is existent. Aside from the standard variable wattage mode that lets you fire up the mod from 1 watt all the way to 230 watts, temperature control for stainless steel, nickel, and titanium coils are all supported.

Variable wattage feels accurate to the watt and the performance in temperature control mode almost rivals the capabilities seen in DNA or YiHi chips which are supposed to be the gold standard when it comes to TC.

The large atomizer support of the E-Priv also means that you have the freedom to use a large variety of aftermarket tanks or RDAs available in the market, allowing you to branch your vaping experience outwards if ever you feel like vaping on something else besides the included TFV12 Prince tank.

This might not be the case however considering the sheer amount of compatible coil heads that work perfectly with the Prince tank, already allowing a diverse vaping experience all on its own.Smok E-Priv inclined view

While the new chipset is pretty much considered bleeding edge as far as mods go, the Smok E-Priv goes for the familiar and easy to use triple button interface which consists of a firing button and +/- buttons. Anyone who’s used a similar layout will be in familiar territory here but for newcomers, the basic operation is simple enough.

5 clicks on the firing bar turn the device on and off, holding it down fires the mod up, and the +/- buttons are used to adjust wattage and temperature settings. 3 clicks on the firing bar also give you access to the menu system where its possible to switch between vaping modes and make adjustments to the user interface such as changing the color scheme.

Portability

With the dimensions of the Smok E-Priv measuring out to 148*47*31.88mm (Prince tank included), the entire kit definitely has some bulk to it. An outstanding weight of 194.5 grams also means that this might not be the most pocket-friendly device as squishing the mod inside your pocket would make it a bit uncomfortable to walk around, to say the least.

The Smok E-Priv might be best suited for at home or office use thanks to its weight and size but that doesn’t mean by any chance that it’s uncomfortable to use and hold. The ribbed and textured edges make it easy to get a good grip on this beast of a mod and the lack of sharp corners is very welcome as this makes the device a lot more convenient for prolonged vaping sessions.

As for battery life, there really isn’t much to complain about. The dual 18650 batteries go a long way when it comes to delivering a consistent and powerful vaping experience and you really won’t find any need to recharge the mod midday.

While it’s often recommended to use an external charger for multi-battery setups such as the Smok E-Priv, the device does feature a micro USB port for future firmware updates and emergency charging for when you’re really in a pinch.Smok E-Priv tank

Overall Experience

Despite its bulk and relatively heavier weight, it’s hard to dislike the Smok E-Priv, especially when taking into consideration the technological leaps it’s taken to advance vaping hardware to the highest standard possible.

If the powerful ARM chipset already wasn’t enough, the excellent flavor and vapor production delivered by the included TFV12 Prince tank is the icing on the cake as the dual mesh coil heads deliver an outstanding vaping experience in all regards.

If you are looking for the best pre-filled unit on the market we suggest checking out the Bo Plus and if you are looking for the best mod-style unit we suggest checking out the Smok X-Priv.
