Smok Morph Review – This one’s for you Morph!
Review: Smok Morph 219
Manufacturing Quality
Upon first glance, it becomes pretty apparent that the Smok Morph 219 is far from being an original design. The device harkens back to the days of the ultra-popular Smok Alien which was THE device that pretty much put Smok on the map. Unfortunately, the Smok Alien was plagued by a litany of quality control issues that put a small dent in Smok’s reputation.
The Smok Morph 219 shares a lot of similarities with the Alien in the aesthetics department, which is mostly due to the two-tone colorway created by the main body of the device and the parallelogram-shaped frame that outlines the OLED display. People who use 510 cartridges tend to prefer the CCELL Silo.
And speaking of OLED displays, the Smok Morph 219 sports a fresh new screen along with newly designed user interface that looks both intuitive and pretty at the same time. The device forgoes the standard physical buttons used for adjusting temperature and wattage and simply relies on the on-screen buttons on the capacitive screen which feels remarkably responsive.
The side of the Smok Morph 219 features the classic firing bar that was present in many of Smok’s high powered lineup but it seems like they’ve stepped up the quality on the parts used this time around. The firing bar feels both smooth and snappy, letting you know the actual moment where the sensor actuates and when the mod starts firing up, resulting in a satisfyingly responsive tactile experience.
The TF tank that comes with the kit is nicely matched to the colorway of your mod which looks to feature the same high-quality finish that was absent in older Smok devices such as the Alien. The included wide-bore drip tip also matches the chosen colorway nicely but just in the case you feel like switching things up, the tank allows for swapping with any 510 drip tip so lack of variety in the aftermarket won’t be an issue.
Flavour Quality
The Smok Morph 219 kit comes packaged with a TF Tank BF- Mesh Coil rated at a nice and low 0.25-ohms. The spec sheet on the official product page claims the coil new design features a larger heating area which we would associate to improved flavour production (given the airflow is dialed in just right) and we’re inclined to agree.
Vaping within the coils recommended power range is a blast and we were more than impressed with the flavours that we were getting out of this setup.
Coil durability falls around the median as far as BF coils for high powered mods go which is to say they last around a week before flavour and vapor production starts to drop off thus requiring a replacement. Smok also offers an optional ceramic coil that isn’t included with the kit unfortunately and we weren’t able to test it out.
The airflow design on the TF tank isn’t spectacular especially when compared to aftermarket options, but for a kit tank, it manages to do an ok enough job, although you can expect to get a bit of turbulence and whistling here and there depending on how you dial in your airflow settings.
Power Flexibility
Given the dual 18650 battery setup that the Smok Morph 219 uses, 219 watts of max power is definitely doable although not recommended especially when using the stock coils that are included with the kit.
Variable wattage and temperature control come standard with this kit and adjusting the power output in 1-watt increments allow a great deal of adjustability when it comes to finding your preferred sweet spot.
Something that we were really impressed with is the awesome atomizer/tank compatibility that the Smok Morph 219 offers. Tanks up to 30mm in diameter are able to fit on top of this thing without overhang allowing the full range of aftermarket options should you choose to purchase a separate tank or atomizer.
Ease of Use
Thanks to the number of features packed into the Smok Morph 219, it certainly requires a certain amount of patience to get fully acquainted with all the kit has to offer. Thankfully using the basic features of the mod is far from difficult thanks to the intuitive user interface that gives you an eagles eye view of everything that’s going on inside your device at a simple glance.
In addition to the physical firing bar which gives you precise control when firing up the Smok Morph 219, the mod also features a dedicated lock button that freezes up the screen and prevents any accidental or unwanted presses.
The included BF coils easily snap and thread into place inside the TF tank so no tools are required in order to set up the kit. The bottom battery trap door also has polarity indicators which are very legible so you shouldn’t have any issue installing batteries improperly. While the device does feature a micro USB port for quick and on the go charging, its always recommended to use an external charger when topping up the batteries to ensure safe and balanced charging.
Portability
For a dual 18650 device, the Smok Morph 219 feels just right in the size department. It’s a bit more compact than other mods in the same power category with dimensions measuring out to 84.5mm * 44.8mm * 30.2 mm. It definitely has some heft, however, weighing in 233 grams without the batteries installed which can make it a bit uncomfortable to keep in your pocket.
On the other hand, battery life when vaping on the Smok Morph 219 is excellent and a full charge should be available to provide you with a full day’s worth of vaping even on the upper end of the wattage spectrum. The TF tank holds up to 6ml of e-liquid so you won’t find yourself having to top up the tank too often.
Overall Experience
Smok’s return to the Alien design is well appreciated especially considering that the Smok Morph 219 brings along a host of improvements such as a better finish, more vaping functionality, and a new and improved OLED screen. Fans of the Smok Alien who found all of its niggling issues a deal breaker should have much to look forward to in this brand new iteration of a well-loved format.
Despite not being touted as a beginners device, the Smok Morph is both accessible to newcomers to the hobby while still catering to the needs of advanced vapers who are looking for a bit more oomph out of their device, but if you are looking for the simplest way to switch we recommend the Slice.
