Kandypens Ice Cream Man Wax Pen Review – Soft Serve

0

Are those bells we hear? Like the familiar chimes of soft serve trucks and Dickie Dee trikes, we came running to the sound of the new KandyPens vaporizer, the Ice Cream Man. This is unit ends up being more of an update to their Galaxy pen but was intended to be the little sibling unit to the new KandyPens Elite.

The differences between the Ice Cream Man and the Elite are the number of heat settings and the coils used, whereas the only real differences between the Ice Cream Man and the Galaxy are the rubberized color finishes and ceramic-style mouthpiece of the ICM.

The idea behind the Ice Cream Man is to make clouds of vapor so thick and robust they’re almost “milky”. Like most KandyPens, the Ice Cream Men are available in a variety of creamy (and limited) color combinations. Is this a worthwhile addition to the KandyPens catalog? Read on to find out!

Review: Kandypens Ice Cream Man

How it Works

Like pretty much all pen-style vapes, 5 clicks of the power button will turn the unit on. 3 more clicks in quick succession will let you navigate the 3 temperature profiles, then you just hold the button once you’ve selected a setting.

You can fit about .1g of wax or oil, but it will work better with a smaller amount more akin to a BB or a grain of rice.

Temperature Flexibility

There are 3 heating temperatures offered with the Ice Cream Man: 350°F, 390°F, and 430°F. These temperatures are supposed to be optimized for heating concentrates for best levels of taste and cloudiness.

3 settings is about par for these types of devices, so here’s hoping new iterations will have one more to offer as well.

Vapor Quality

The vapor quality from the Ice Cream Man does deliver in terms of being thicker, “milkier” types of clouds which are more robust than those of the standard vape pen.

That said, it’s still pretty much on par with the aforementioned KandyPens Galaxy devices.

The vapor flavor and texture is certainly as decent as you would come to expect from the brand, but not quite enough to recommend it over other more accessible units.

The best results seem to come from just loading small amounts of material into the chamber, so don’t try and take advantage of its relative roominess.

Manufacturing Quality

This is the same sort of decent build we’ve come to expect from KandyPens. It feels strong and smooth enough to hold up to a decent amount of use with aplomb. The relatively deep quartz crystal chamber should hold a fair amount of product and the dual quartz rod atomizer gives an even heating.

There’s also a satin-type rubber finish which is nice to handle and gives a good amount of grip.

Battery Life

Battery life is fairly par for KandyPens, as the device should last for at least a day or two on a single charge. The Ice Cream Man uses a temperature-controlled battery, and the 10-second auto shutoff helps to prolong the battery life as well.

In case there’s any issues with the battery, KandyPens offers a lifetime warranty on all batteries included with their devices.

Portability

Without much in the way of moving parts or delicate outer components, the Ice Cream Man should be chill for cruising.

The leak-proof technology of the Ice Cream Man lends itself well to portability, and the size and shape allow the device to travel well in pockets and bags.

Ease of Use

Seeing as this is so similar to other KandyPens vaporizers, it’s no surprise the Ice Cream Man is just as easy to use as the average KandyPens. The one button control turns the Ice Cream Man on with 5 quick clicks, and you can go through the heat settings by clicking the button 3 times.

Cleaning the Ice Cream Man is pretty easy as well; the leak-proof technology keeps material safely in the chamber, so regular 99% isopropyl alcohol should be fine to use on the atomizer.

Overall Experience

The Ice Cream Man is another decent but very samey KandyPens design. It’s becoming apparent how the power of KandyPens lies mostly in their branding, and how they offer generally well-performing devices in a wide array of styles.

The Ice Cream Man does deliver on its promise of creamy clouds, but unless you’re a dedicated collector of KandyPens styles, there’s not much to recommend this piece over a variety of others, like the Source Orb 4 Premium Kit. It’s another decently solid device, just not much different from either the Elite or the Galaxy, or the Donuts, or the Gravity…

If you are looking for a great introductory wax pen we highly suggest checking out the Zeus Thunder 2. This pen puts flavor first and is a great starting point for the uninitiated.
